There Are No Shortcuts To Success

Play Episode Listen Later Mar 9, 2020 53:21

In today’s episode Chelsi and Brittany talk about how there is NO shortcut to success. As Rachel Hollis would say, "For the people in the back let me say that again" THERE IS NO SHORTCUT TO SUCCESS. Nothing replaces hard work for sustainable and long term success. Everyone you see who has become "successful" in their field has put in the work, it didn't just happen overnight, it took sacrifice. You are in control of your life and if you can't show up for yourself you won't have confidence in yourself to continue to pursue your goal. If you're looking for an episode that will call you out on your shit and provide some tough love, then this is the episode for you, because both Brittany and Chelsi know it takes consistent hard work and not a magic pill to come out on top. When Others Cause You Harm | Releasing What You Can't Control and Showing Up For Yourself

Play Episode Listen Later Nov 4, 2019 35:12

In today's episode we're talking about when others cause you harm. Understanding you can't control their behaviour but you can control how you react, ultimately showing up for YOU. Everyone holds their own values and morals, and because of this there are times when we can become offended or hurt by another person’s actions or inactions. So, what do you do when that happens to you? When someone intentionally, or unintentionally, causes you physical or emotional harm. Our first instinct is what we usually catch ourselves naturally wanting to do in response to their behaviours. This includes seeking retaliation/revenge (wanting to hurt them back), publicizing it (voicing stance/opinion), internalizing it (it’s my fault) and blaming the other person (it’s their fault). What if someone doesn’t directly say something to offend you but you know their values and morals conflict with yours? How do you determine whether or not the "middle ground" can be reached without compromising what you believe in? It's also important to understand that feelings from past trauma can present themselves in these situations. Therefore, we need to make sure we are showing up for ourselves. On today's episode we talk about Intuitive eating. By definition: Intuitive Eating is an approach developed to help people heal from the side effects of chronic dieting. Our society today is full of fad diets, quick fixes and conflicting information about food. So, finding a healthy relationship with food is not an easy feat. Chelsi has recently started working on her relationship with food with the goal of healing her body from the inside out. For her, after years of yo-yo dieting and changing her eating habits for the purpose of weight loss, she started to take notice that her health was suffering. She realized she did not know how to eat to support her body or be optimally functional. Instead she was eating only for the purpose of looking good. Brittany discusses how emotional eating had more of an impact on her life when she suffered the loss of her Grandmother, which led to her signing up to compete in a body building competition. While preparing for her competition, Brittany went from ~195lbs to ~135lbs in just over three months, which by the way is not sustainable, causing her to suffer from disordered eating. Brittany talks about how competing has changed the way she looks at food and the difficulties she has with finding a balance. We all grow up believing that there is a certain plan that we have to follow in order to be successful. Our ideas are typically influenced by the people who are directly in our lives such as our parents, our teachers and other authority figures around us. But, what we aren't taught is that you can absolutely achieve success even if you ditch the plan and forge your own way. In this episode we're sharing our individual stories about the plans that we were encouraged to follow, as well as the plans we chose to follow. Step one in Brit's plan...don't become 16 and pregnant! Chelsi opens up and talks about her steps, the one she didn't follow, the ones she wanted to take and ultimately the ones she took, which lead her to the success she has in her life now. Following a plan isn't necessary, and following "the plan" laid out for you by those around you isn't wrong. As long as choosing to follow “the plan”, or not, makes you happy and brings you joy.
