Can genius and empathy coexist or are we doomed to put up with tortured, erratic leaders to find breakthroughs? People cite examples of temperamental, even bullying, genius leaders who create toxic workplaces and use their ability to unlock innovation as an excuse for their damaging behavior. My guest today, Taryn Voget, debunks this myth, shows us what genius is all about, and how empathy serves as a catalyst for genius.Today we discuss what genius is and why it's not simply about being born with it. Taryn shares the link between genius, spirituality, and empathy - and some unique ways leaders have leveraged empathy to achieve innovative insights. She shares how genius actually works and offers you tips on how to enhance your and your team's genius in the workplace. You will leave today's episode inspired to embrace and cultivate your own genius. To access the episode transcript, please search for the episode title at www.TheEmpathyEdge.comKey Takeaways:Genius is a verb, it is not something you can measure on a test.Effective engagement and genius happen when you try to see things from the other person's point of view and address those goals, fears, needs, expectations, and aspirations. Are you excited as a leader? The energy you bring will be the energy that the team feels. If you're not operating from excitement, how can you expect your team to be?"Genius is activated through excitement, because that is the driving engine that creates continuous improvement, getting better over time." — Taryn Voget Episode References:Big Magic: Creative Living Beyond Fear by Elizabeth GilbertThe Empathy Edge podcast: Denise Roberson: Mistakes Leaders and Boards Make When Thinking About PurposeFrom Our Partner:SparkEffect partners with organizations to unlock the full potential of their greatest asset: their people. Sarah's fear of mysterious wetness might be solved thanks to a researcher who set out to determine what the heck is in those puddles on the subway. We learn about a case of mistaken labeling on medicine that made babies grow hair all over their bodies, and a bunch of other medical mishaps that sparked reform. Susie reveals how she unknowingly became friends with a murderer in real life, and how he was eventually caught. We find out why everyone born before 1996 is at a much higher risk for mental illness, dementia, and lower IQ due to exposure to an every day substance. Susie wants to become an air travel consultant so we can all have better flying experiences and we can avoid a revolt. Sarah shares how Disney is making people with physical disabilities stand in line while developmental disabilities still qualify for special accommodations. And we discuss the documentary about the kiss that changed soccer, and why we didn't realize how much more there was to the story behind the headline.Listen to more podcasts like this: https://wavepodcastnetwork.comJoin our Candy Club, shop our merch, sign-up for our free newsletter, & more by visiting The Brain Candy Podcast website: https://www.thebraincandypodcast.comConnect with us on social media:BCP Instagram: https://www.instagram.com/braincandypodcastSusie's Instagram: https://www.instagram.com/susiemeisterSarah's Instagram: https://www.instagram.com/imsarahriceBCP on X: https://www.x.com/braincandypodSponsors:Go to https://paireyewear.com and use code BCP for 15% off your first pair. Hello and welcome to the Enchanted Ears Podcast, where we discuss anything and everything Disney. Disney's Wild Animal Kingdom was a big gamble for the Company. A theme park focused more on live animals and conversation than Disney IP was something Disney had not really tried before. But with the growing success of Disney World as a vacation destination, the time seemed right to build a 4th park. Luckily for us, Disney's Animal Kingdom (as it would come to be known) was placed in the hands of legendary Imagineer Joe Rohde, who traveled the globe to make sure the park was authentic as possible. But that didn't mean it was all smooth sailing. As is common with Disney, the park went over budget, lands were cut and when it opened there weren't many attractions for guests to enjoy. So join us this week as we take a look back at one of our favorite Disney parks, to see what it was like on opening day. Submit a question/topic for us to discuss on a future episode. Barbara Wardell is a seasoned marketing and ad professional who left behind a very successful career in the specialty medicine world to become a disruptor on behalf of small businesses. She has a hunter-gatherer mindset she uses to guide her geofencing ad agency, Cullari & Wardell. Barbara focuses on what makes her clients strong and their competition weak. She then uses GPS location data to match would-be customers to her client's strengths, thereby both hunting and gathering. The measurable results in terms of increased foot traffic and online conversations are game-changing. Beyond her professional pursuits, Barbara is a proud mother of two outstanding young men, balancing her role as a dedicated businesswoman with a passion for enjoying life to the fullest and spending quality time with family and friends. A true Renaissance man, co-founder Ernesto Cullari has been a successful songwriter with hits on Disney and Country Radio. He was a candidate for the U.S. Congress, and an editorial writer for Fox News, as well as other publications for over a decade. By day, he was a surgical medical device rep for 11 years, until he left what had become a corrupt medical tyranny to pursue a career in marketing and advertising. Ernesto quickly broke into food, beauty and commercial photography and directing with clients like The Original Soup Man, Indigo Hotel, and Hynt Beauty. He was an early adopter of automation and gaming technologies in advertising, which enabled him to merge his creative mind with his analytical mind and leverage them on behalf of his ad clients. Ernesto and Barbara are now trailblazers in the data-intense field of geofencing advertising, where they have turned complete industries, like the laundry industry, upside down. Each month, very inexpensively, they drive over 5,000 satellite-verified in-store visits to small businesses all across the US, Canada, and Australia. It's an all new “All-Star Variety Hour” without much variety. We've got just one guest for this show and Daniel Banks is just starting his initial term as the Superintendent of the Central Indiana Division after serving three years as train master. When he's not busy trying to make the NMEA grow he can be found pursuing his favorite favorite parts of the hobby, building and operations. Dan has recently begun a new laser kit business called Wabash Model Works, modeling primarily 1875 Old West. It's somewhat Disney-fied, much romanticized, just plausible enough to be believable kits and scenes that will draw you in, like a good paperback western full of adventure. There's plenty of chat with this modeler and a podcast we hope you enjoy.

In this episode, Vance shares practical strategies for implementing premium pricing by presenting options and building value through transparency and trust. He emphasizes the importance of creating emotional connections with customers to enhance loyalty and retention, even in B2B environments. Additionally, he advocates for confident implementation of price increases, highlighting that many pricing challenges stem from business owners' mindset rather than market resistance. Why you have to check out today's podcast: Learn how to confidently set premium prices and create packages that differentiate your business from competitors. Discover how emotional connections, rather than just logic, can drive customer loyalty and enhance sales, even in B2B settings. Get tips on overcoming common pricing hurdles and improving customer retention through simple yet effective strategies. “People have enough information, they don't have enough implementation; just go do it. You could go out right now, raise your prices 10% and nobody's going to bat an eyelash.” - Vance Morris Topics Covered: 01:45 - How he found himself in pricing 02:31 - Sustaining a cycle of value and profitability as inspired by Disney's pricing strategies 05:20 - How he justifies premium pricing in his upholstery cleaning business 08:46 - Demonstrating expertise and showcasing value 11:32 - Emphasizing the value of positioning as a premium service rather than competing on being the second cheapest 13:00 - Maintaining pricing integrity 14:21 - Adapting Disney-inspired strategies to differentiate your business making it incomparable to competitors 16:37 - How to differentiate your products or services, even in competitive markets like B2B software 17:57 - How to foster loyalty, enhance customer retention, and make price increases more acceptable 21:09 - Highlighting the value of small, thoughtful gestures to build a positive reputation and stand out in competition 22:42 - Offering premium pricing tiers in clear, non-salesy manner 24:57 - Vance's best pricing advice Key Takeaways: "Not so much to justify [premium pricing], as it is being able to offer a better experience, which then allows me to charge a higher price, which puts more money in my pocket." - Vance Morris "It's about creating a connection. It's people doing business with people. It's not people doing business with business and creating some kind of emotional connection with the purchasing manager, with whoever's doing the buying. And it just makes selling so much easier." - Vance Morris "When you have that connection, a price increase may not be overlooked, but is a lot more palatable than just hard excel spreadsheets flying around." - Vance Morris "There is no competitive advantage to being second cheapest; if you're not going to be the cheapest, you might as well go the other direction." - Vance Morris People/Resources Mentioned: Disney: https://www.disney.com/ Ritz-Carlton: https://www.ritzcarlton.com/ Dunkin Donuts: https://www.dunkindonuts.com/en Connect with Vance Morris: LinkedIn: https://www.linkedin.com/in/vancemorris/ Website: https://deliverservicenow.com/ Connect with Mark Stiving: LinkedIn: https://www.linkedin.com/in/stiving/ Email: mark@impactpricing.com
Send us a textSnow in Atlanta might sound as rare as a unicorn, but when it happens, you better believe it turns into a comedic spectacle worthy of its own reality show. Picture gangster-themed snowmen taking over the streets of the South—it's the kind of chaos that only an unexpected snowfall can bring. As we shake off the cold, we pivot to the world of sports, sparking a heated debate over the kings of the bench in basketball. Who deserves the ultimate sixth-man crown: Manu Ginobili, JR Smith, or Jamal Crawford? And if that wasn't enough, we throw Lamar Odom, Antoine Walker, and Danny Granger into a hypothetical basketball cage match. Spoiler alert: things get feisty.Ready to argue like it's Thanksgiving dinner? Our Disney movie rankings will have you picking sides faster than you can say "Hakuna Matata." From singing praises for "The Lion King" to questioning if "Remember the Titans" deserves its legendary status, we tackle the heartwarming, the nostalgic, and the outright controversial picks. We challenge each other's lists, throwing down over classics like "Mulan" and surprising choices like "Holes." It's a no-holds-barred Disney showdown, and we're not holding back on our hot takes. Whether you're Team Classic or Team Live-Action, this segment promises a lively ride.Switching gears, we dive into the curious intersection of politics and entertainment. Starting with a pitch for a Frozone TV series—because who doesn't need more icy superhero antics—we comment on a surprising camaraderie between Barack Obama and Donald Trump at Jimmy Carter's funeral. Is political authenticity a myth? We have thoughts. And if that's not enough, we tackle the prickly issue of inmate firefighters, questioning fairness and safety in these burning debates. As we wrap things up, remember, you can find us wherever you listen to podcasts, and we're always keen to hear your thoughts.FOLLOW. SUBSCRIBE. SHARE. However, this shift also provides an opportunity for empowerment and self-reliance through entrepreneurship and community-focused economic growth.African Americans possess immense spending power—over $1.6 trillion annually—that can be redirected to support Black-owned businesses and foster thriving local economies. By embracing business ownership, African Americans can create jobs, build wealth, and invest directly in their communities, ensuring diversity and equity through their own leadership and vision.Strategies for thriving without DEI include starting small businesses, collaborating with other Black entrepreneurs, supporting one another intentionally, leveraging technology, and prioritizing financial education. Historically resilient and innovative, African Americans have the tools to redefine success by creating self-sustaining ecosystems that don't depend on corporate initiatives. This is a pivotal moment to turn challenges into opportunities, fostering economic empowerment and securing a brighter future through collective action and entrepreneurship.
Lucasfilm, as a company, is on the decline. Willow was a massive flop and cost WAY more than people initially thought. Skeleton Crew brought even fewer viewers than The Acolyte, and all of their tentpole brands -- Star Wars, Willow and Indiana Jones -- are in a marked decline. Lucasfilm is facing significant criticism and financial losses due to its recent projects' decline in quality and viewer interest, leading to a loss of relevance for the Star Wars franchise under Disney's management. 00:00 Lucasfilm faces criticism in 2025 for its irrelevance and financial losses, exemplified by the costly failure of "Willow." 01:44 Lucasfilm's recent projects, including Willow, show a decline in quality and viewer interest, straying from the original Star Wars legacy. 04:33 Disney's $132 million "Willow" series flopped due to low viewership and failed to capture the charm of childhood favorites by focusing on adult audiences. 06:41 Disney's shows are struggling financially, with studios using fake project names and tax write-offs to obscure losses, as seen in Batgirl's cancellation. 09:38 Lucasfilm's recent shows are struggling to connect with audiences, resulting in a toxic brand perception despite some critical acclaim. 12:14 Star Wars struggles to maintain relevance, with newer projects like "The Acolyte" and "Andor" failing to capture the acclaim and attention of earlier works. 13:58 Star Wars is losing relevance due to Disney's mismanagement, requiring new leadership or a focus on merchandise over content. 16:38 No significant changes are expected from Lucasfilm in the near future.
