This week on Facing the Future, we hear from Gordon Gray, Director of Fiscal Policy at the American Action Forum. He has written a new paper with a proposal that could add another 900,000 new Americans to the labor force of this country and reduce the major backlog of legal immigration by making a modest investment in the federal agency charged with processing skilled work visa applications. Gray estimates it could add more than $100 billion in economic output every year.

Genetics of metabolism are not static. You do have a uniqueness to the way you burn calories from food and metabolize carbs, fat, proteins. Weight loss for women over 40 can be suddenly tricky. Today we're going to discuss the importance of genetics of metabolism so that, you don't just have to look at what is, but that you can change the expression of your genetics and optimize your habits for your optimal health. If you've wondered, why can't I…. or why does it work for her and not me… then close your other distractions and tune in. First, this Before I introduce my guest on this episode, I want to bring up something integral in many of the guest experts I have on this podcast. Think for a moment about the physicians and care providers you've had over the course of your adult life. When you had a health concern or issue, and by the way I include weight loss resistance under health concerns. Though sometimes it's treated with an “eat less, exercise more” advice, we know enough over the last decade I hope I've shed light on the fact, that you can 1) think you're doing the right thing, 2) truly be doing the right thing and still have no one actually look at your genetics, your hormone levels, the integration of that together with your dietary or exercise needs. I believe there are different ways experts become experts. 1) they've been through what you're going through 2) they've helped thousands of others with a method that consistently gets results or 3) and this is gold… they can say both. A young or experienced male physician, a young female physician (or exercise expert for that matter) who's not yet had the life experience simply has a gap. It's not impossible, but that combination of having been there together with the method is gold. And that.. is where we're going today, the genetics of metabolism, yours. My Guest: Dr. Rajka Milanovic Galbraith has been successfully leading families to optimal health for over 2 decades as a board-certified Family Medicine doctor, from delivering babies to managing family care in the clinic and hospital. She is now exclusively a leading Functional Medicine Consultant certified by the Institute for Functional Medicine (IFM). Having overcome 2 autoimmune diseases along with stubborn perimenopausal weight gain, gives her firsthand knowledge and empathy for the challenges that her clients face. There are so many benefits to adding Pilates to your workouts. Pilates helps with back pain, makes you stand taller, and focuses on strong and lean muscles. It creates a strong core, and as a bonus, it helps with flexibility because we almost never stretch enough, all with low impact. Don't be fooled into thinking that you can only do Pilates on those machines seen in Pilates studios which look more like torture devices. You might still be intrigued and want to try Pilates over 50 as you have heard such good things about it. It's never too late to start Pilates. Today we talk about 3 compelling reasons to start Pilates over 50 and 3 easy ways you can add Pilates to your day and make it a habit. I'm a huge fan of Pilates and have been teaching for about 20 years. All my clients, online or in-person, learn how to incorporate Pilates into their day without using the machines. It is nice to have access to the machines, but they are not a must-have to achieve your health goals. Pilates doesn't stop at the mat or with the equipment. Pilates is ideal for women over 50 as it's low-impact and effective in strengthening, lengthening, and toning the entire body through controlled movements. By incorporating just a few Pilates principles into daily activities, you might start to see results after just a few weeks of consistent practice, including improved balance, better posture, increased core strength, a deeper mind-body connection, and better overall fitness. In this highlight from the show, Dr. Cloud talks about how and why we procrastinate and gives us some deceptively simple ways to address it. It starts with shrinking the task. Because the things we are putting off doing are always overwhelming in some way, the key is in breaking it down to one simple thing you can do. It's not that you lack the ability to do the thing you're avoiding, it's just that you aren't moving. Your emergency brake is engaged. Get that parking brake off, pop that tiny hole in the balloon, start the “leak” in that task and you're off and running. Dr. Cloud's next workshop is on Healing Parental Wounds. In this 2-hour live streaming webinar Dr. Cloud will help you identify your parental relationship injuries, understand how to face them, and give you the practical tools and advice you need to grow past your suffering. If you can't attend live, don't worry, you can stream the recording as much as you like. Discounted pricing is available until October 9th.
