Fondé par le visionnaire Henri Debs à la fin des années 1950, le label et son studio ont fonctionné pendant plus de 50 ans, produisant plus de 300 singles 7” et 200 albums, faisant de Disques Debs un pilier de l'histoire musicale caribéenne. Au début des années 1980, Henri Debs s'était déjà imposé comme un producteur prolifique, avec un catalogue de sorties inégalé en Guadeloupe et en Martinique. Parti d'un simple magnétophone deux pistes installé à l'arrière d'une boutique de vêtements, Disques Debs s'est transformé en une véritable institution, avec un studio ultramoderne en plein cœur de Pointe-à-Pitre, des magasins de disques et d'instruments de musique en Guadeloupe, en Martinique et à Paris, une discothèque au Gosier, ainsi que des accords de distribution internationale en Europe, aux États-Unis et en Amérique du Sud. (Rediffusion) Emile Omar est notre 1er invité pour présenter le 3e volume de la série Disques Debs International Mizik Maladi (Strut Record 2025). Une compilation concoctée par Emile Omar et Hugo Mendez. Strut présente avec enthousiasme le troisième volume tant attendu de la série Disques Debs International, explorant plus en profondeur les archives de l'un des plus grands labels franco-caribéens, Disques Debs, basé en Guadeloupe. Fondé par le visionnaire Henri Debs à la fin des années 1950, le label et son studio ont fonctionné pendant plus de 50 ans, produisant plus de 300 singles 7” et 200 albums, faisant de Disques Debs un pilier de l'histoire musicale caribéenne. Au début des années 1980, Henri Debs s'était déjà imposé comme un producteur prolifique, avec un catalogue de sorties inégalé en Guadeloupe et en Martinique. Parti d'un simple magnétophone deux pistes installé à l'arrière d'une boutique de vêtements, Disques Debs s'est transformé en une véritable institution, avec un studio ultramoderne en plein cœur de Pointe-à-Pitre, des magasins de disques et d'instruments de musique en Guadeloupe, en Martinique et à Paris, une discothèque au Gosier, ainsi que des accords de distribution internationale en Europe, aux États-Unis et en Amérique du Sud. Disques Debs a joué un rôle essentiel dans l'évolution de la musique caribéenne moderne, créant un pont entre les genres traditionnels comme la biguine et le gwoka et les styles contemporains comme le cadence, le compas et le zouk. A conversation about TikTok in the RNZ newsroom resulted in Senior In Depth journalist Kate Newton conducting an interesting social media experiment. The result is a three-part investigation called Four phones, three weeks which examined the content that was sent to four fictitious teenage TikTok accounts over the course of three weeks. Resistance is scattered, and anyone looking to the Democratic Party to offer guidance or leadership should remember that we came to this point on bipartisan rails, that is, the ruling class and the political establishment has agreed for decades on every major issue: unqualified support for Israel's murderous and illegal actions; the militarization of domestic police forces and policing as the ready-answer to every social problems; mass incarceration as a defining feature of society; the frantic privatization of public goods and services. And underlying it all, the tenacious and deadly legacy of the culture and structures of white supremacy. We're joined in conversation with the activist, organizer, and writer Emile Suotonye DeWeaver, author most recently of Ghost in the Criminal Justice Machine: Reform, White Supremacy, and an Abolitionist Future.
