I love listening to music. As a music lover, nothing enhances my own listening experience as much as a good set of ear buds and a volume setting that I'm sure is higher than it should be. Lately, my difficulty hearing conversations when there's ambient noise have me wishing I could rewind to turn down the volume that I'm sure now effects my hearing as I've gotten older. The World Health Organization tell us that globally, thirty-four million children have deafness or hearing loss, of which sixty percent of the cases are due to preventable causes. As you might expect much of this could be mitigated if we would intervene when our children are younger, teaching them to practice safe listening habits, such as using headphones or earbuds less frequently, and turning down the volume. Parents, you are responsible for stewarding your child's health, including their hearing, to the glory of God, so that they might make choices now that lead to life-long hearing health.

On this episode of The Vergecast, we kick off Hot Girl Vergecast Summer with a classic Vergecast segment: the mic test. Guest host Victoria Song is joined by Vergecast producers Andru Marino and Erick Gomez to see how the Nothing Headphone 1, Sony WH-1000XM6, Apple AirPods Max, and Bose QuietComfort Ultra hold up against what's possibly the noisiest street in Brooklyn. After that, Victoria is joined by Ladder CEO Greg Stewart to talk about what it takes to build a successful strength training app — especially for people just starting out. As it turns out, it's quite challenging, between curating playlists, accommodating users' different access to equipment, skill levels, and preferences for coaching styles. (And maybe, some occasional beef with Peloton?) Lastly, we answer a question from the Vergecast Hotline (call 866-VERGE11 or email vergecast@theverge.com) about AI fitness summaries, whether people actually like them, what's frustrating about them, and what scenarios they might actually be useful for. The familiar phrase "all sin is equal" rolls off the tongue of many believers without a second thought. But what if this comfortable theological shorthand isn't actually biblical? This episode challenges a widely accepted Christian belief by examining what Scripture actually teaches about different sins and their consequences.Diving into passages where Jesus himself speaks of "greater sin" (John 19:11) and different levels of punishment (Luke 12:47-48), we uncover a more nuanced understanding of how God views our transgressions. The evidence is compelling: while all sin separates us from God and requires grace for redemption, the Bible consistently shows that some sins carry heavier weight, responsibility, and consequence than others. This isn't just semantic nitpicking—it profoundly affects how we understand God's perfect justice. When we recognize that God looks at our hearts, motives, knowledge, and intent, we gain a deeper appreciation for His righteousness. He doesn't judge the person who steals a pen the same as a murderer, though both have sinned. This understanding doesn't minimize any sin's seriousness but magnifies God's perfect judgment. Through biblical examples and practical applications, this episode will transform your understanding of sin's nature and inspire a more complete surrender to God. Stop reserving rooms in your heart that you keep off-limits to Him—true faith means signing over the entire deed. Subscribe, share, and join our growing community as we pursue biblical truth together, even when it challenges what we've always believed.Support the show

In Podcast Playbook (Part 2), Kelly Kennedy rips the fluff off podcast tech and gives you the real, unfiltered truth about the gear that actually matters. If you're serious about launching a podcast that sounds world-class, this episode is your blueprint. From computers and microphones to audio interfaces and headphones, Kelly breaks down what to buy, why it matters, and how to build a pro-level setup without wasting a dollar. No gimmicks. No jargon. Just clarity and confidence to build your studio the right way—whether you're in a spare bedroom or a full production space. But this isn't just about gear—it's about showing up like a pro from day one. Kelly explains why audio quality is make-or-break, why your computer is the real unsung hero, and how the right setup positions you for long-term podcast success. This episode will cut months off your learning curve and set you up to hit record with power and purpose. If you want to build a podcast that's built to last, Episode 251 is non-negotiable.Key Takeaways: 1. Your computer is the most critical piece of podcasting equipment—editing and production demand serious processing power.2. A gaming laptop or desktop is often the best choice due to its high-end GPU, CPU, RAM, and SSD performance.3. Sound quality can make or break your show; even great content won't save you if the audio hurts people's ears.4. USB microphones are great for beginners, but XLR microphones paired with an interface deliver far superior sound and control.5. A quality audio interface like the Rodecaster Pro 2 allows for zero-latency monitoring, clean gain control, and pro-level audio routing.6. Headphones are non-negotiable—they prevent feedback, help monitor sound live, and allow you to edit with precision.7. Bluetooth headphones introduce latency—always go wired when producing or editing your show.8. You don't need a full studio to sound professional—a home setup with the right gear can match broadcast quality.9. Start with a setup you can grow into—XLR systems are scalable and used by nearly all professional podcasters.10. Equipment helps—but consistency, connection, and your message are what truly build a great podcast.Ready to build something that lasts? The Catalyst Club isn't just another business community—it's your backstage pass to real growth. Serie: The Bear is weer begonnen op Disney+. See omnystudio.com/listener for privacy information.

I just ran the Bighorn 100—no pacers, no headphones, and absolutely no planning. In this episode, I share the full breakdown of how I tackled Wyoming's classic 100-miler while juggling life stress, sleep deprivation, and a recent pacing stint on the Pacific Crest Trail. From garbage bag drop bags to a ramen-fueled revival at mile 48, this race was anything but conventional.I talk about the wildflowers, the relentless climbs, the raw and rugged vibe of the race, and why I chose to run it in the middle of prepping for my Appalachian Trail FKT attempt. I also dive into the mental side of ultrarunning—what it means to finish, to recalibrate goals mid-race, and to stop caring about optics when you're throwing up on the side of a mountain. This is a race recap, a therapy session, and a reality check all rolled into one. Whether you're training for a 100 or just want to hear how I managed to survive a race with no taper, a busted ankle, and two weeks of pacing fatigue, this one's for you.Use code FREEOUTSIDE at Janji.com for sweet gear and check out Garage Grown Gear and CS Instant Coffee to support the show. On today's episode, I talk to musician David Bazan. Originally from Phoenix, AZ, David started Pedro the Lion in 1995, and his first full-length album It's Hard to Find a Friend was released three years later on Jade Tree. In 2005, David recorded a more synthesizer-focused album as Headphones, and then a year later, Pedro the Lion broke up. David continued to record music under his own name, releasing albums on labels like Barsuk and Polyvinyl, and then in 2017, Pedro the Lion got back together and began a five-album cycle, with each album focusing on a city that David grew up in. The most recent was last year's Santa Cruz, which came out on Polyvinyl/Big Scary Monsters. 2025 marks the 20th anniversary of Headphones' lone album, and to commemorate the occasion, Suicide Squeeze just released a remastered edition at the end of May, and folks, it's just as fantastic as it was back in 2005! What happens when the very person meant to protect you becomes your abuser? In this raw and powerful episode, Abby courageously shares her story of surviving years of sexual abuse by her father while growing up in a seemingly devout Christian home. From the outside, her family appeared normal – attending church regularly and even participating in ministry activities. Behind closed doors, however, a dark reality unfolded as her father used manipulation, isolation, and threats to maintain control and silence. Through tears and occasional moments of surprising humor, Abby reveals how she navigated this impossible situation and the psychological effects of living with such profound betrayal. The turning point came at age 19 when, after a particularly violent incident, she found unexpected strength to disclose the abuse to her brother. What followed was nothing short of miraculous – within a single day of reporting to police, her father turned himself in and confessed. This swift resolution set her on a path toward healing that would transform her life.Abby doesn't shy away from discussing the complicated aftermath of coming forward, including rebuilding her relationship with her mother, finding authentic faith, and eventually reaching a place where forgiveness became possible. Her journey demonstrates how speaking truth, even when terrifying, can lead to freedom beyond imagination. For anyone trapped in abuse, questioning their worth, or struggling to believe healing is possible, this episode offers a powerful reminder that you are not alone. God can orchestrate freedom in ways we cannot imagine, and there is always a way out. If Abby's story resonates with you, please reach out to someone you trust or contact local authorities – your breakthrough might be one brave conversation away.Support the show

Ever feel like your brain just gives up on you halfway through the day? You're doing all the right things—grinding, pushing, sipping your fourth cup of coffee—and still, your focus slips and your energy crashes. It's not because you're lazy or lacking discipline. It's because your brain is burnt out. And guess what? There's science to back that up—and a solution that's way cooler than you'd think. In this episode of The Happy Hustle Podcast, I got to sit down with Dr. Ramses Alcaide, a neuroscientist and the CEO of Neurable. Now, if you haven't heard of Neurable yet, you're about to have your mind blown—because they're not just making headphones, they're creating the future of brain optimization. We're talking real-time brainwave tracking, AI-powered productivity support, and tech that literally helps you prevent burnout before it even begins.Dr. Ramses shared some gold nuggets in our convo. One of the biggest takeaways? Breaks aren't just something nice to take—they're absolutely essential. But here's the kicker: not all breaks are created equal. Most of us think taking a break means scrolling through our phones or watching a random YouTube video. But according to neuroscience, those kinds of breaks don't help your brain recover. What you need are effective breaks—strategic rest that restores focus and reboots your mind for high performance. That's where Neurable comes in. These aren't just headphones—they're like a personal coach for your brain. They monitor your neural signals and tell you when you're locked in and when your focus is slipping. When it's time to take a break, you'll know. When it's time to power through, you'll be in flow. It's like turning your brain into your biggest productivity ally. For an entrepreneur trying to juggle it all, that's a massive win.We also dive into the power of experimentation. Dr. Ramses emphasized how no two brains are the same. What works for your buddy might not work for you. Some people recharge by moving their body, some through meditation, and others through quick mental resets. Neurable gives you insights to figure out what your brain needs, not just what productivity books tell you. Then we got into some seriously next-level stuff—like how this kind of brain-tech isn't just about optimizing your daily hustle. It's also paving the way for early detection and prevention of neurodegenerative diseases. Imagine having the ability to identify brain health issues years before symptoms show up. That's the kind of proactive health support that could change lives. And if you're thinking this tech is just for hardcore biohackers or neuroscientists, think again. Even if all you do is take calls and listen to music, these headphones are still worth it. The bonus is that you're supporting your brain while you're at it. I've been using them myself, and I gotta say—they're a game-changer.So whether you're running a startup or building your empire, this episode is a must-listen. Dr. Ramses breaks down the science in a way that's extremely accessible, and the conversation is filled with real, actionable advice you can start using today.Want to hear how to stop burning out, start optimizing, and think your way to better performance? If you're ready to give your brain a boost, check out Neurable.com and use code HAPPY to save over a hundred bucks on a pair of headphones. Though a rather one-off side-project, David Bazan says his Headphones LP may be his most stressful artistic expression. Though the band Pedro the Lion was his breadwinning endeavor at the time, he admits to losing interest in guitar, album by album. Suddenly, dabbling in synthesizers led to not just a new avenue for songwriting, but a borderline obsession, bringing his gear everywhere from lakeside family vacations to vacant movie theatre parking lots in order to perfect these unconventional sounds, alone. Putting the album to tape was a whole other hill to climb, leading to David staying up several days straight, attempting to finish incomplete songs literal minutes before the rest of his band would hear them for the first time, and then record them. But fast-forward to now, and the lone Headphones album is regarded as a crucial corner of David's discography, one that he's now revisiting with a new deluxe 20th anniversary vinyl edition, available in multiple color variants, from both Suicide Squeeze and Undertow. On this episode, David gives us the how's, where's and why's on the entire Headphones experience, two decades removed. Catch Pedro the Lion opening for Grandaddy this fall, as well as live streams of their 30th anniversary performances. Details, tickets and more are at pedrothelion.com.
