In this solo episode, Dr. Mike T. Nelson dives into the intersection of AI and coaching. Using his quest to pick up the 175-pound Inch dumbbell as an example, he shows how AI struggles with niche topics where quality training data is scarce — and why that matters for fitness advice. Topics covered: Why AI gave terrible advice on training for the Inch dumbbell — and what that reveals about how AI sources information The protein-and-kidney-damage myth: when AI repeats bad science Where AI actually helps coaches: data analysis, blood work organization, backend tasks, and production workflows Why clients still want (and need) a real human coach — accountability, customization, and skin in the game Will people be compliant to a robot coach? Probably not The baseline is rising: why just writing training and nutrition programs isn't enough anymore Flex Diet Certification — now open through Monday, June 22nd, 2026 at midnight PST. Eight interventions (protein, fats, carbs, exercise, sleep, micronutrition, fasting, and more) built on coaching leverage and metabolic flexibility. In this episode, we dive into one of the most visionary and historically significant speeches of the 20th century: President Franklin D. Roosevelt's State of the Union Address, delivered to Congress on January 11, 1944.As the tides of World War II were finally beginning to turn in favor of the Allies, FDR was already looking ahead. We explore the profound shift in his rhetoric—from surviving "the world's greatest war against human slavery" to ensuring that Americans returned home to a society worth fighting for. We break down Roosevelt's powerful argument that true individual freedom cannot exist without economic security, and we unpack his legendary proposal for a "Second Bill of Rights."In this episode, we discuss:The Wartime Context: The sacrifices made by the American public and the military in 1944, and why FDR believed "mere survival" wasn't a sufficient reward for their struggles.Freedom From Fear & Want: How FDR linked international peace—a system meant to prevent future aggression from nations like Germany and Japan—with domestic economic stability. The Second Bill of Rights: A deep dive into FDR's proposed economic rights, including the right to a good job, a decent home, adequate medical care, and a quality education. The Legacy: How this address shaped modern debates over social safety nets, human rights, and the American Dream.Whether you're a history buff, a political junkie, or just curious about the roots of today's economic debates, you won't want to miss this deep dive into a speech that imagined a new foundation for American prosperity.Links & Resources:Read the original document from the FDR Presidential Library: 1944 State of the Union Address (PDF)Subscribe & Review: If you enjoyed this episode, please subscribe, rate, and leave us a review on Apple Podcasts, Spotify, or wherever you get your podcasts!Audio Franklin D. Dr. Everett Worthington spent thirty years building the most rigorously tested forgiveness program in psychological science — and the day he turned in his first book on the subject was the day his mother was murdered in a home invasion. Three years later, his brother, who had discovered her body, took his own life, after Everett — a psychotherapist, a big brother — had failed to talk him into counseling. So this is not abstract research. The man giving us the REACH model, the distinction between decisional and emotional forgiveness, the six-step protocol for responsible self-forgiveness, and a vision of forgiveness scaling from heart to home to homeland is the man who has had to apply every move he teaches to the people he loved most. We spent the hour on the science, the tools, and at the end, on why the algorithmic version of America is currently training us to become exactly the kind of community in which forgiveness will not happen. Dr. Everett L. Worthington Jr. is Commonwealth Professor Emeritus in the Department of Psychology at Virginia Commonwealth University, where he taught for more than forty years before formally retiring in 2017 and remaining affiliated with the department. A licensed clinical psychologist and past president of the American Psychological Association's Society for the Psychology of Religion and Spirituality, he has published more than thirty-eight books and four hundred scholarly articles across forgiveness, humility, positive psychology, and marriage and family. His REACH forgiveness program has been validated by more than thirty randomized control trials worldwide. Ilia delivered the Axial Age lecture this past week from her temporary post in Germany, and the questions came in fast enough that we ended up touching the third rail of the whole class — the rise of monotheism. Yes, there was a time when God was not. Yes, there was a time when God was gods. Yes, Psalm 82 is in your Bible, and yes, Yahweh shows up at the divine council to judge the other deities. If that sounds sacrilegious, you might be exactly the right person to take this class. The Axial Age is when the I gets invented, the score gets written, the disengaged knowing that becomes science comes online, and 60,000 denominations begin arguing over whose copy of the score is correct. We are still inside its inertia. We are also — Ilia argues, and I think she is right — already past its hinge. You can WATCH the conversation on YouTube Ilia Delio, OSF, PhD is a Franciscan Sister of Washington, DC, and American theologian specializing in science and religion, with interests in evolution, physics, and neuroscience and the import of these for theology. Welcome to The Collective Table, where we celebrate the intersections of Jesus, justice, and joy. In this special Pride Sunday teaching, Co-Lead Pastor Jason Coker continues The Spirit of Action series by diving into Acts 10:44-48. Jason challenges listeners to examine how they read Scripture—whether as a "child" demanding strict obedience, a "geek" lost in ancient contexts, or a "prophet" who sees the broader picture of God's radically inclusive love. Through the story of Peter and Cornelius, he illustrates how the Holy Spirit constantly crosses human boundaries to include those marginalized by society. Reminding us that rules exist for human good, Jason calls the church to act with prophetic urgency—like an ambulance rushing to save a life—to fully affirm, protect, and celebrate our queer siblings. Have you ever been so disappointed — for so long — that you just stopped hoping anything good could happen next? That's exactly where these women are as they make their way to the tomb in the early morning hours of Mark chapter 16. They aren't coming with expectation. They're coming with burial spices. They have planned for a burial. And what they find instead is so shocking, so completely outside of anything they were prepared for, that they flee trembling and bewildered — which is, honestly, one of the most human responses in all of Scripture. We're in the final eight verses of Mark today, and I want us to really slow down here, because there is so much tucked into this ending. First — did you notice that the angel specifically calls out Peter by name? Go tell the disciples, including Peter. Remember where we last left Peter — weeping bitterly after his complete and utter failure. And yet the angel makes sure he's included by name. Because that was not the end of Peter's story. And it is never the end of ours either. We also talk about the way Mark ends — abruptly, with the women frightened and silent — and what that might mean for us. Whether the manuscript was lost or Mark intended this cliffhanger, I think there's something really beautiful about being left in the tension. Because that's where most of us actually live, isn't it? In the unresolved. In the not-yet-fully-clear. And what the resurrection says into that tension is: hope can begin before you have full clarity. Here's what we know is true from this passage and from the whole arc of the Gospel: death is defeated. Creation is being renewed. God brings life out of dead places — in history, and in your story too. The same God who said to Abraham is anything impossible for God? is the same God who rolled away that stone. Which means there is no relationship, no season, no place in your soul that is too far gone for Him. So as we close out the entire Gospel of Mark together, I want to leave you with this: is there a place in your life where disappointment has made hope feel foolish? Could you just tell God about that today — and then claim hope again anyway? What Does It Mean for Me? Questions to Consider: Is there a place in your life where disappointment has made hope difficult? Can you stay open to hope even when life is unresolved? What would change if I believed even more today that the resurrection was true? How would I live my life if I knew that nothing is impossible for God? Want More? Read along: Mark 16:1–8 Old Testament connection: Isaiah 43:19 — "See, I am doing a new thing" Psalm 30:5 — "Weeping may stay for the night, but rejoicing comes in the morning" Not What I Signed Up For For unresolved seasons and places in your story where you're still waiting for God to show up. Neil Howson in conversation with David Eastaugh https://preciousrecordingsoflondon.bandcamp.com/album/prelp-8-age-of-chance-bbc-sessions-85-87 A stunning mix of Northern Soul, machine-like beats, electroclash, slogans and agitpop, Age of Chance were unquestionably one of the most exciting groups to emerge during the C86 era. They certainly didn't sound like anybody else, that's for sure. An uncompromising live act, Age of Chance were frantic and frenetic – and they even dallied with the mainstream via their version of Prince's Kiss. Janglepop this is not. Now, not before time, their three sessions for BBC Radio 1 are collected by Precious Recordings of London as part of the label's ongoing series. And for good measure, we've included both sides of their first two incredible ground-breaking singles – Motorcity and Bible Of The Beats, both unavailable in any form for decades. Limited edition (500 copies worldwide) comes with unseen pics, sleeve essay by close associate John F Power. and download codes. Includes unlimited streaming of PRELP 8: Age of Chance BBC sessions 85-87 via the free Bandcamp app, plus high-quality download in MP3, FLAC and more.

This episode discusses navigating the dating world in today's day and age of social media, fitness & body obsession, and dating apps. Includes thoughts on how focusing on ourselves and staying true to our own happiness affects who we choose to spend time with.
1. Jill Biden and President Joe Biden Jill Biden’s remarks about President Biden’s debate performance. She feared he may have been having a stroke, arguing that: Her actions afterward (campaign event, public praise, restaurant visit) contradict that concern. This suggests either exaggeration or dishonesty. Claims that President Biden experienced cognitive decline. Allegations that political leaders and media knowingly concealed this. Media organizations and Democratic officials were aware of Biden’s alleged condition. There was a coordinated effort to hide or minimize it. They frame this as an example of: Political power being prioritized over transparency. A broader credibility problem in U.S. politics. 2. U.S. Shipbuilding and National Security Key points: Heavy reliance on foreign-built ships is presented as a national security risk. A major funding initiative (~$24 billion) for the U.S. Coast Guard is described. Investment includes: New ships and helicopters Arctic icebreakers Shipyard construction (notably in Texas) Claimed benefits: Increased domestic manufacturing Job creation (thousands of jobs) Strategic competition with China and Russia in the Arctic The senator describes: Internal negotiations over where shipbuilding contracts would go (Texas vs. Louisiana). Involvement of the White House and President Trump (in this narrative timeline). Emphasis is placed on: Negotiation strategy Achieving a “win-win” outcome Expanding production beyond initial goals 3. College Sports Crisis and NIL Issues Problems identified: Escalating athlete compensation (tens of millions per team) Transfer portal instability Financial losses for universities Elimination of non-revenue sports (e.g., tennis, Olympic sports) Proposed solution: A bipartisan bill called the “Protect College Sports Act” Supporting arguments: College sports provide educational opportunities for disadvantaged students They promote social unity and personal development Includes testimony from Nick Saban highlighting unsustainable financial trends. On today's show, we dive into the cost structure of audio speakers. We start with an article that asks whether 'audiophile' speaker brands are milking you for $20,000. We also read your emails and cover the week's news. News: Important update to your DIRECTV account SVS Auto EQ Room Correction for R|Evolution Subwoofers YouTube TV adds Fox One, Peacock to Primetime Channels store Other: Monoprice Alpha In-Wall Speaker There's never been a better time to grab a new Google TV launcher Are 'Audiophile' Speaker Brands Are Milking You for $20,000 The listeners keep delivering great ideas for show topics. This week Mike LaBorde sent in an article published at headphonesty.com entitled A Former FTC Economist Quit His Job to Prove 'Audiophile' Speaker Brands Are Milking You for $20,000. The author talks about how a former FTC economist quit his job to design and build affordable high-performance speakers. He argued that many premium audiophile brands are significantly overpriced because they use similar OEM drivers from the same factories while charging massive markups for branding, cabinets, and dealer margins. We'll break down this article into five points we felt were interesting. The full article is linked and you may want to read it for more details. Many premium audiophile speaker brands rely on the same small group of OEM driver manufacturers (like Sinar Baja/SB Acoustics, SEAS (Scandinavian Electro Acoustic Systems), Scan-Speak, etc.). The same factories and engineering talent supply drivers to both high-end and mainstream brands, even when the final speakers carry vastly different logos and price tags. "Custom" or "proprietary" drivers are often overstated. Most brands customize only the "soft parts" (cone, surround, voice coil) on top of standard off-the-shelf "hard parts" from OEM suppliers, rather than designing and building drivers entirely from scratch. Pricing of speakers — The actual cost of the drivers is a tiny fraction of the retail price. In the Wilson Audio Yvette example, the three drivers cost roughly $530–$580 total, representing only about 2% of the $25,000+ selling price. The vast majority of the cost comes from cabinetry, finish, dealer margins (40-50%), distribution, marketing, and brand prestige, with a typical 5x markup from manufacturing cost to retail. Only a few brands truly manufacture their own drivers in-house. Companies like Focal, KEF, Dynaudio, Paradigm, and Bowers & Wilkins are exceptions. Most premium brands outsource driver production due to the high cost and complexity of vertical integration. High performance doesn't require extreme prices. Former FTC economist Dennis Murphy's Philharmonic Audio proves this by offering well-engineered speakers (like the $850/pair Ceramic Mini using quality SB Acoustics drivers) with minimal overhead, direct sales, and no lavish dealer/showroom costs — challenging the idea that great sound must come with five-figure price tags. The article essentially argues that much of the ultra-premium speaker market is driven more by branding and distribution economics than by revolutionary driver technology. What is the Cost Breakdown of Thousand Dollar Speakers? After going through the previous article we wondered what the actual cost breakdown of Passive bookshelf speakers retailing at $1,000 per pair? ThinkKEF Q series, ELAC Debut Reference, or similar mid to high end consumer hi-fi brands. They balance good performance with accessible pricing. What follows is our best estimation based on the data we uncovered. If you are in the industry and have better data, please let us know and we will update this analysis. Sources for this analysis include - Audio Science Review, AVS Forum, WhatHifi, headphonesty.com, hubhifi, and a few others. 1. Design & Development (R&D) – Upfront Investment Typical cost: $50,000–$250,000+ for a new model line. Includes acoustic modeling, driver selection/tuning, crossover design, enclosure simulation, multiple prototypes, listening tests, and anechoic chamber measurements. For this price tier, brands often use a mix of off-the-shelf and mildly customized drivers rather than fully bespoke high-end ones. Amortization: Spread over production volume and for this exercise we used a production run of 5,000–20,000 pairs. This adds roughly $5–$25 per pair at a reasonable scale. 2. Prototyping & Tooling Prototypes: 5–15 iterations at $300–$1,200 each which include custom cabinets, driver samples, hand-assembled crossovers. Tooling: CNC molds/jigs for cabinets, baffle cutting, or vinyl wrap tooling: $8,000–$40,000 upfront. Amortized to $2–$10 per pair. 3. Bill of Materials (BOM) – The Biggest Per-Unit Cost For a typical 2-way passive bookshelf (6.5" woofer + 1" tweeter) at this price point: Drivers - $80–$180 - 6.5" coated paper woofer (~$30–$70 ea.), soft dome or aluminum tweeter (~$15–$50 ea.). Brands like SEAS, SB Acoustics, or custom OEM. Cabinet - $60-$130, - Braced MDF (18–25mm), vinyl wrap or basic veneer, internal damping, port tube, terminals. Real wood veneer adds premium. Crossover - $30-$80 - 2nd/3rd order with air-core inductors, film capacitors, resistors. Higher quality parts (Mundorf-level) push toward the upper end. Other (grille, wiring, hardware, terminals) - $20-$50 - Magnetic grilles, internal wiring, binding posts. Total BOM per pair: $190–$440 at volume production (typically in China or Vietnam for most brands). Premium touches (better drivers, thicker bracing, nicer finishes) push BOM toward the higher end. 4. Manufacturing, Assembly & Overhead Labor & Assembly: $25–$60 per pair (cabinet gluing/bracing, driver mounting, crossover soldering, final wiring, testing). Quality Control & Testing: Burn-in, frequency sweeps, distortion checks: $10–$25. Factory Overhead/Utilities: $35 - $50. Total Manufacturing per pair: $70 - $135 5. Full Cost Structure to Retail ($1,000/pair) We will assume a large brand that sells 20,000 units and has already invested in tooling and requires minimal new tooling for each new speaker design. Design and R&D Amortized - $5 Prototype and Tooling - $2 Bill of Materials - $315 - We split the $190 - $440 down the middle Manufacturing - $103 - We split the $40 - $135 down the middle Shipping, duties etc to distributor per pair on average - $50 Total to Manufacture $474. The rest of the thousand dollars covers the distribution chain, branding, and profit. And in reality, depending on the efficiency of the factory and ability to leverage design histories from years of experience, the soft costs can be about a third of $110 we came up with, bringing the total cost to about $400. Key Variables Affecting Cost Volume: Higher production = lower per-unit costs. Driver Quality: Exotic materials (beryllium tweeters, carbon fiber) can double driver costs. Cabinet Finish: Vinyl vs. real walnut veneer = big difference. Brand Positioning: Established names (KEF, ELAC) have higher R&D/marketing allocation than direct-to-consumer brands. For comparison DIY builders can replicate similar performance for $300–$600 per pair in parts using higher quality drivers and crossover components and flat-pack or self-built cabinets, eliminating most of the overhead and markups. And after building over 30 sets of speakers I can say without doubt that what you build will sound as good as speakers costing ten times the amount. Plus you can use material that works best for you as well as customizing the look to match your decor. Even my latest set built from stock off the shelf components bought from Part Express for about $200 sound simply amazing!

And surely I am with you always, to the very end of the age. Matthew 28:20 Everything Includes the Trinity Jesus’ words about what is to be taught are both simple and sweeping. “Everything.” Not some things. Not just the easy or familiar teachings. Everything he has commanded. That includes truths that comfort, truths that challenge, and even truths that stretch our understanding. Among those truths is the doctrine of the Trinity. It’s not something we would have figured out on our own. One God, yet three persons, Father, Son, and Holy Spirit. It can feel mysterious, even difficult to explain. And yet Jesus includes this in the “everything” his disciples are to teach. Just before this, he commanded baptism in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit. This is not optional theology. It is at the heart of who God is and how he saves. And that matters more than we might think. If God were not triune, the gospel would fall apart. The Father sends the Son. The Son lives, dies, and rises for sinners. The Holy Spirit brings that saving work to us through faith. Each person of the Trinity is fully God, yet each carries out a distinct role in our salvation. And then comes the promise: “Surely I am with you always.” The one who commands also stays. Jesus does not send his disciples out alone to figure things out or to carry the weight by themselves. He is present every step of the way. That changes how we hear the word “everything.” It’s not a demand we must meet on our own. It’s a gift we receive from a Savior who is still with us, still teaching, still guiding. Through his Word, he continues to unfold the truth. Through his Spirit, he helps us believe it. So even when some teachings feel deep or mysterious, we don’t turn away. We listen. We learn. We trust. PCT Resources: New on-demand CE training: Legal-Ethical Cross-Jurisdictional Telemental Health in 2026: Interstate, International, and Complex Practice Considerations Presented by Eric Ström, JD, PhD, LMHC and Liath DaltonA 3-hour legal-ethical CE training for clinicians navigating the realities of modern telemental health practice, where clients travel, relocate, attend college out of state, split time between households, or receive care while physically located somewhere other than the clinician's primary licensing jurisdiction. This updated training moves beyond a basic "am I allowed to practice there?" analysis into advanced practical application. Participants examine practice-authority pathways, temporary practice allowances, PSYPACT, the Counseling Compact, the Social Work Licensure Compact, MFT portability developments, clinician-location versus client-location issues, international practice considerations, payer and malpractice concerns, emergency planning, confidentiality and mandatory reporting conflicts, minor consent and parent/guardian access issues, and documentation of due diligence. Participants also receive practical worksheets to support jurisdictional verification, international due diligence, and mapping applicable laws, risks, and practice implications — helping clinicians move from identifying a possible permission pathway to evaluating the conditions, conflicts, capacity, documentation, and risk-management steps needed to make a grounded practice decision. Recommended for any clinician providing teletherapy, as well as practice owners, supervisors, clinical directors, compliance leads, and other practice leadership responsible for supporting cross-jurisdictional care decisions. This training can also be assigned to team members through PCT's free team training management system (Group Practice Care basic.) As one participant shared: "Thank you for an absolutely excellent presentation! The presentation is a home run, and I will recommend it to my colleagues… I have a somewhat unique perspective on teletherapy and licensure mobility from working on these issues at the state, national, and international regulatory levels. This is the first Q&A of The Future of Religion, and the questions did exactly what good questions do — they pulled the lecture into places I had not planned to take it. Ilia opens by reframing my religion before belief lecture in her own cosmological key, and then we are off: three centimeters per second and the C-fibers, the knife edge at fifty bodies where the old bonding mechanisms fail and religion has to be invented, the fallacy of misplaced concreteness, the Baptist accidentally serving Eucharist at an Episcopal cathedral, and the line that closed it — what if success as clergy is not rewriting the score, but learning to play the music that is already in the room? Jesus is arrested, mocked, beaten, humiliated, and executed — and through almost all of it, He is completely silent. No protest. No retaliation. No escape. And He had every power to do all of those things. So why did Jesus choose surrender? That's the question we're sitting with today, and I think the answer changes everything about how we understand not just Easter, but every hard and unresolved season in our own lives. We walk through the full weight of what's happening in this chapter — the crowd that was shouting Hosanna just days earlier is now demanding Barabbas. Pilate, conflicted and cowardly, bends to the pressure. Jesus is crucified between two criminals, mocked by the very people He came to save. And darkness covers the land for three full hours. I want us to really sit with what the cross meant in Roman culture — this was the symbol of highest shame, of total defeat, of public humiliation. The word excruciating literally comes from the Latin word for crucifixion. And in the middle of all of that, at the very moment when Jesus cries out "My God, my God, why have you forsaken me?" — that is the moment theologians point to as when He took the sin of the entire world onto His shoulders and experienced, for the first and only time, separation from His Father. That cry? That is the most painful moment of all of it — not the nails, not the mockery, but the weight of sin creating distance from God. And then He says it is finished. And the temple curtain tears in two. Here's why that matters so much: that curtain separated the people from the presence of God. Only one priest, once a year, after elaborate ritual, could enter that space. When it tears — it tears because the barrier between us and God is gone. Forever. Through the breaking of Jesus's body, we now have full access to the presence of God. No more separation. No more curtain. This is not just a personal salvation transaction. This is a cosmic shift in how the world works. And it happened in what looked like the darkest, most defeated moment in history. So whatever unresolved, silent, confusing season you're in right now — I want you to know that Jesus has been there. He has gone before us in the silence, in the suffering, in the feeling of God's absence. And because He did, we never have to experience real separation from God again. What Does It Mean for Me? Can I trust God when circumstances feel unresolved? Can I trust God with the unknowns in my own story? What does surrender look like for me today? What does it look like to actually surrender at the foot of the cross, knowing that Jesus has taken my sin upon his shoulders? If I knew I was right with God — today, tomorrow, and the rest of my life — how would I feel? How would I act? What would I do? If I can't get there yet, what would that freedom even feel like — and what would it look like to move toward it? Want More? Charles Burton examines Canada's controversial economic pivot toward China, where Prime Minister Mark Carney is pursuing a strategic partnership that includes non-public security agreements and the reduction of tariffs on Chinese electric vehicles. Critics warn these moves compromise Canadian sovereignty and allow for significant Chineseinfiltration. (7)1900
