1 Corinthians 14:20 challenges believers to pursue spiritual maturity by thinking with wisdom, discernment, and godly understanding. In this devotional, Whitney Hopler explores the difference between childish thinking and mature faith, reminding Christians that age alone does not produce spiritual growth. God calls His people to remain innocent regarding evil while developing the wisdom and discernment needed to navigate a world filled with competing voices, misinformation, and spiritual confusion. Highlights Spiritual maturity requires growing beyond childish patterns of thinking. God calls believers to be innocent toward evil but mature in wisdom. Prayer helps align our thoughts with God's perspective and guidance. The Holy Spirit teaches believers how to think with discernment. Wisdom involves applying God's truth to everyday decisions and challenges. Regular Bible study strengthens our ability to recognize truth and avoid deception. Mature faith responds thoughtfully rather than reacting impulsively. Spiritual growth happens gradually as believers consistently seek God. Full Transcript Below: Think Like AdultsBy: Whitney Hopler Bible Reading:“Brothers and sisters, do not be children in your thinking; rather, be infants in evil, but in thinking be adults.” – 1 Corinthians 14:20, NRS When my late mother was living in a retirement home, she dated a man who also lived there. Women far outnumbered men in Mom’s community, and out of the few men who lived there, Mom’s boyfriend was the only one who could still walk unassisted. Not only that, but he could still drive! Some of the women there were happy for Mom, but many of her neighbors excluded her from events and gossiped about her and her boyfriend. “That’s so immature!” I complained when Mom told me about it. “They’re acting like a bunch of jealous high school girls. I thought they would know better at their age.” Mom just smiled and said something I’ll always remember: “Reaching a certain age doesn’t guarantee reaching maturity.” In 1 Corinthians 14:20, the Bible reminds us that spiritual maturity in the way we think is important. It points out that we should stay far away from sin by being as innocent as infants toward evil. That way, we can stay pure and sensitive to God. But at the same time, this verse urges us to think like adults. Adults are meant to be mature, thinking carefully and wisely. God wants us to use the amazing minds he has given us. He doesn’t want us to accept every idea without examining it, or follow every voice we hear without first considering if it’s credible. We shouldn’t be reacting to situations immaturely. Instead, we should grow spiritually mature by seeking God and developing discernment to recognize what comes from God and what doesn't. When we think like adults, we can ask questions about any situation to help us adopt the perspective God wants us to have on it. Instead of asking what we want, we can ask what God wants, and instead of asking what’s easiest, we can ask what’s right. This kind of thinking grows as we walk with God, and prayer is an important part of that growth. When we pray, we invite God into our thoughts and decisions. Prayer slows us down so we can connect with God’s presence with us. Then, we can listen to whatever God is trying to tell us and perceive those messages more clearly than we could if we weren’t giving God our full attention. As we pray, we can ask God’s Holy Spirit to work within us. Then, we’ll develop the wisdom we need to say and do whatever is best in any situation we face. Wisdom is more than knowledge. Knowledge tells us facts, but wisdom helps us know how to live like God wants us to live. When we pursue wisdom by asking the Holy Spirit to guide our thinking, we can learn how to recognize what’s actually true versus the lies that spread in this fallen world. We can also learn how to make the best choices, even in the most challenging circumstances. The Holy Spirit serves as our teacher throughout this journey. The more the Spirit shows us how to think like adults, the more we learn to stop reacting to situations like children and to start responding to them wisely, by carefully considering our choices. Along the way, we’ll make mistakes, but God is patient with us as we grow. Just like a child slowly matures into adulthood, our mature thinking develops step by step. Each time we read the Bible, pray for guidance, or seek advice from a wise believer, we take another important step toward mature thinking. Maturity matters! Far too many people are becoming confused and deceived by messages spreading in this world from unreliable sources. As we grow in mature thinking, we become stronger in our faith and better able to help other people. We can point the way to what’s really true and give people the real hope they need. So today, let’s ask God to help us think like adults and grow to become spiritually mature in the process. Together, we can keep learning to think with God’s wisdom. Intersecting Faith & Life: As you consider how important it is for you to think with spiritual maturity, reflect on these questions: In what ways do you sometimes approach your faith with childish thinking rather than mature understanding? How can prayer help you develop wisdom and clearer thinking? What voices or influences in your life might distract you from God’s truth? How can reading the Bible regularly strengthen your ability to discern what’s right? What’s one step you can take this week to grow in spiritual maturity? HIS BRAIN. HER BRAIN. Same Destination, Different Timelines What if one of the most accepted beliefs about men and women survives not because it is entirely true, but because almost nobody has questioned the assumptions hiding underneath it? For generations, culture has repeated the same conclusion: women mature faster than men. The statement sounds obvious. It appears in classrooms, relationships, family systems, popular psychology, and everyday conversation. Yet the moment we investigate what maturity actually means, the certainty begins to fracture. Mature according to what metric? Emotional regulation? Executive functioning? Relational intelligence? Identity formation? Risk assessment? Existential awareness? Spiritual insight? The answer changes depending upon which developmental faculty occupies the microscope.

What Mature Christianity Actually Looks Like is the topic that will be discussed today on RIOT Podcast, a Christian Discipleship Podcast. How do you know if you’re truly growing in Christ and not just growing in knowledge? As Paul closes his first letter to the Corinthians, he gives us a surprising answer. After sixteen chapters addressing division, pride, immorality, spiritual gifts, worship, and the resurrection, Paul ends not with lofty theology, but with practical examples of what genuine spiritual maturity looks like in everyday life. In this week’s episode of the Riot Podcast, we unpack 1 Corinthians 16 and discover that mature Christianity is revealed not just in what we believe, but in how we live. Together we’ll explore: Why generosity is a mark of spiritual maturity How integrity and accountability protect God’s work What it means to make plans while remaining surrendered to God’s will Why God often opens doors of opportunity alongside opposition The importance of humility and healthy ministry relationships Why Christians must remain watchful, courageous, and strong in their faith Why love must govern everything we do How God values faithful servants more than worldly success Why loving Jesus is the center of the Christian life How grace and love become the final evidence of true spiritual maturity Paul’s closing message is as relevant today as it was two thousand years ago. Mature Christianity looks like: Generosity instead of selfishness Courage instead of compromise Service instead of status Faithfulness instead of quitting Love instead of pride Grace instead of condemnation The Christian life is not about becoming impressive. It is about becoming faithful. In a world obsessed with influence, recognition, and success, God is looking for men and women who will stand firm, serve others, love deeply, and keep their eyes fixed on Christ. If you’ve ever wondered what spiritual maturity actually looks like, this episode is for you. Stay faithful. Love deeply. Serve boldly. Keep your eyes on Jesus. Because in the end, those are the things that truly matter. #ChristianPodcast #MatureChristianity #1Corinthians16 #SpiritualGrowth #FaithInAction #ChristianDiscipleship #BibleStudy #RiotPodcast #ChristianLiving #Faithfulness #ServeOthers #LoveLikeJesus #GraceAndTruth #KingdomLiving #FollowJesus Thanks for listening and don’t forget to: Follow us on Facebook Follow us on Twitter Follow us on Instagram Subscribe to our Youtube Channel Follow us on Rumble The RIOT PODCAST is a listener-supported podcast: Donate Now

What 50 Carriers Know That You Don't: Inside Sønr

The Insurtech Leadership Podcast

Introduction Most insurers say they want to be innovative. Fewer have a systematic way to know what's worth pursuing, who's building it, and whether they should partner, invest, or simply wait. Matt Connolly has spent ten years building the answer to that problem. Connolly is the founder of Sønr, a global market intelligence platform that tracks over five million companies and helps insurers, reinsurers, and brokers make better decisions about innovation and technology. Working with fifty-plus tier-one carriers—from Travelers and Liberty Mutual to Munich Re, Allianz, and Tokio Marine—as well as brokers like Guy Carpenter and WTW, Sønr sits at the intersection of the startups changing the industry and the incumbents that need to understand them. In this conversation, Josh Hollander and Connolly dig into where innovation intent breaks down inside large carriers, the four points where value leaks out of a corporate innovation process, why POC purgatory is a symptom not the disease, and how Sønr 2.0 is bringing market intelligence to operators who've been tasked to innovate but not given the tools to do it. Guest Bio Matt Connolly is the Founder and CEO of Sønr, a global insurtech market intelligence platform used by fifty-plus tier-one insurers, reinsurers, and brokers worldwide. Founded ten years ago, Sønr tracks over five million companies and has built a proprietary data set on insurance innovation unavailable to general AI platforms. He also hosts his own podcast interviewing innovation leaders from major global carriers. Sønr now generates half its revenue from North America and recently made its first US hire. Key Topics • Where innovation intent breaks down — At the CEO level. Without clear sponsorship and direction from leadership, innovation functions become disconnected from real business priorities. Ten years of data backs this up. • The four value leaks — Not understanding trends, poor scouting discipline, year-long POCs that should be three weeks, and failing to move from POC to pilot to scale. Each is a distinct failure mode with a distinct fix. • POC purgatory — Mature innovation programs are running more POCs than ever but scaling fewer. The root cause is almost always people: wrong sponsors, wrong internal champions, or wrong startup for the actual need. Sønr's fix: a one-day workshop to build a mini business case before a three-week POC begins, with KPIs and go/no-go criteria agreed upfront. • The decentralization of innovation — Carriers that once had centralized innovation functions have spread that mandate across underwriting, claims, and distribution—but capability hasn't followed. Operators have been tasked to innovate with no networks, no tooling, and no experience. This is the gap Sønr 2.0 addresses. • Sønr 2.0 and the Emerging Trends Academy — A simple front-end into ten years of proprietary insurance innovation data, priced for operators not just innovation teams. The Emerging Trends Academy goes deeper: cross-industry groups going deep on specific trends with startups, carriers, consultants, and academics in the same room. • The data moat — Ten years of tracking every company, trend signal, and client engagement within insurance innovation. Data that Connolly notes even Anthropic or OpenAI simply can't access. That compounded intelligence sits behind both the platform and the research offering. Notable Quotes "Don't go with the startup that is the best salesperson. Do the scouting properly—where are they based, what's their culture, who are their people, does the technology align to your needs?" "POC purgatory. We're seeing mature innovation businesses doing more POCs than ever but not moving beyond them. The answer is often the people." "The data we sit on is not available to anybody else. It's compounded intelligence from ten years. Anthropic or OpenAI simply can't get to it." "If you don't get your direction right from the top, the value leak is going to be huge later on. Mature Conduct In the Christian life, one of the easiest traps to fall into is thinking we have already arrived. Some believers think maturity means they have reached a point where they no longer need correction. Others think maturity means they already understand everything important about the Christian…

What the Science Actually Says About Effective Feedback

Developer Tea

Play Episode Listen Later Jun 3, 2026 27:50

A lot of what we've been talking about lately is durable skills — the abilities that last regardless of how our tools and tech environment change. In today's episode, I want to step back from the AI conversation and focus on one of the most durable skills of all: feedback. We've all been on both the giving and receiving side, and we can probably count on one hand the times someone gave us feedback that genuinely drove a good change — that left us wanting to do better without feeling torn down. So how do we accomplish that kind of feedback, on both sides of the table? That's what this episode is all about. Start With Your Goal, Not Your Frustration: Before you give feedback, recognize that your gut impulse often comes from a negative emotion — frustration, feeling slighted, feeling disrespected. Those feelings are valid signals that something is off, but they aren't a sufficient reason to give feedback. Effective feedback is goal-oriented: ask yourself what you actually want to change before you say a word. Premature vs. Mature Feedback: Premature feedback is really about making sure someone knows how you feel — which can quietly turn into an attack so they share your pain. Mature feedback is forward-looking and aimed at improvement. Venting may give you catharsis in the moment, but if the behavior worsens or the relationship is damaged, the net outcome is negative. Why Asking for Feedback Changes Everything: Even hearing "can we meet for ten minutes, I have some feedback" measurably raises your heart rate and pushes you into a defensive state. But when you ask for feedback, your mind and body register that you're in control — same information, completely different physiological response. Make It Behavior-Based and Specific: Good feedback is about observable behavior — what a camera would have caught — not someone's core identity. If your feedback violates a person's self-concept (painting a competent engineer as incompetent), they have to change who they believe they are to accept it, and that gap rarely gets bridged in a 30-minute call. Use a Model — But Add the Intervention: The popular SBI model (Situation, Behavior, Impact) is a strong backbone, but it stops short. Don't just describe the past — partner with the person on what comes next. Think of it as SBI + Intervention: what can you commit to trying differently so the impact changes? That's where feedback becomes coaching. The Netflix Four A's: Aim to assist, make it actionable, show appreciation, and accept or discard. Lead with the intent to help, get specific about the behavior, appreciate the person's willingness and intent, and recognize that not every piece of feedback will be useful — both sides get to keep what's valuable and let the rest go. Receiving Feedback Well: When someone hands you messy, un-modeled feedback, you can walk them through the framework — "help me understand the situation, what behavior did you see, what was the impact?" People respect that you're engaging, shift into problem-solving mode, and give you more actionable feedback as a result. Episode Homework: Pay attention to patterns over time. One piece of feedback shouldn't be attached to your identity — but three or four that point in the same direction are worth introspecting on. Career development and feedback are two sides of the same door; walk through it and you grow.

When Zion Travails with Pastor Azizah Morrison

Welcome to Day 1 of our June series, Mature Christianity. In today's lesson, Pastor Azizah Morrison explores what spiritual maturity truly looks like according to Scripture. Spiritual maturity is not measured by how long we have been saved, how much we know, or how active we are in church. It is measured by Christ being formed in us.Drawing from Revelation 3, Hebrews 5, and Ephesians 4, this teaching challenges believers to move beyond spiritual complacency and embrace the process of growth, transformation, and discipleship. Join us as we pray for greater wisdom, deeper character, stronger faith, and a more mature walk with Christ.Scriptures: Revelation 3:15-16, Hebrews 5:12-14, Ephesians 4:13For more teachings and resources, connect with Pastor Azizah Morrison and HOPE Center Ministries. www.HOPECenterDC.com

In The Dangerous Beauty of Mature Sons 3.0, Nancy takes the conversation even deeper, revealing why mature sons become increasingly dangerous to darkness and unusable to religious systems. She explores the formation of sons who have gone beyond inspiration into crucifixion, beyond self-reliance into complete dependence upon the Father. Drawing from the life of Jesus, Nancy shows how true sonship is forged through costly obedience, exclusive allegiance, and unwavering trust in the Father's character. As Christ is formed within, mature sons become impossible to manipulate through fear, shame, flattery, ambition, or the approval of others. This episode is a call to deeper identification with Christ, greater freedom from self, and a life fully devoted to the pleasure of the Father. Thanks for Listening! In this powerful episode, Nancy continues unpacking the phrase “The Dangerous Beauty of Mature Sons,” revealing the kind of sons the Father is forming in this hour. These are not polished, image-managed believers driven by ambition, hype, or self-preservation, but men and women who have been broken, purified, and forged through hidden dealings with the Father. Nancy shows how mature sons become dangerous to darkness because they can no longer be manipulated by fear, pride, lust, independence, or the opinions of man. Through deep oneness with the Father, they become absolutely useless to religious systems and deeply inconvenient to the ways of man. This episode is a call to exclusive allegiance, surrendered living, and the terrifying beauty of Christ being fully formed within His people. Thanks for Listening! Welcome to another episode of Late Boomers, our new reality where we, Cathy and Merry, dive into what life looks like after 50, 60, and beyond! In this episode, we're talking all about modern love, late-in-life relationships, and the big question: Should you get married later in life, or is companionship enough? Inspired by a fascinating AARP magazine article, we explore everything from dating apps and living apart together to estate planning, finances, and finding purpose and joy in relationships as mature adults.Navigating relationships in your later years brings unique questions: Should you remarry or simply enjoy companionship? How important are legal commitments like marriage, especially when finances, family, and independence are at play? We open up about widowhood, the desire for independence, the realities of estate planning, and the dynamics of blending families after 50. Plus, we share our honest thoughts on dating apps, common red flags, and what commitment really looks like today.Key TakeawaysRedefining Relationships: Love and relationships after 50 are less about traditional expectations and more about comfort, independence, and honesty. Many boomers are discovering that “living apart together” offers both romance and breathing room for personal growth 03:03.Finances & Family: Marriage later in life has important financial and legal implications, including taxes, Social Security, inheritance, and healthcare 05:23. Estate planning is crucial—especially when children from previous relationships are involved.Commitment Without Marriage: A deep, committed relationship doesn't always need a legal contract. Emotional support, exclusivity, and shared life experiences can define partnership at this stage 24:18.Caregiving Concerns: Health issues and caregiving responsibilities weigh heavily on relationship decisions later in life 17:16. Discussing medical directives and power of attorney is essential even outside of marriage 18:14.Modern Dating: Dating apps are increasingly popular, even among people in their 70s and 80s! But they require dedication and can bring new challenges like love bombing, ghosting, and financial scams 11:07.Red Flags & Emotional Availability: Be aware of manipulative behaviors, financial exploitation, and emotional unavailability. Mature dating comes with its own set of risks and benefits 21:09.Are you navigating love and relationships after 50? Have you chosen to remarry, live apart together, or skip marriage entirely? Should Christians Get Tattoos?

The real issue with tattoos isn't ink—it's identity. Summary This message examines what the Bible actually says—and does not say—about tattoos, Christian freedom, cultural conformity, and spiritual wisdom. While the New Testament never directly prohibits tattoos, Scripture repeatedly calls believers to think carefully about identity, holiness, motives, and whether they are being shaped more by culture or by Christ. The deeper issue is not merely body art but the modern obsession with self-expression, branding, and external identity signaling. Mature believers move beyond asking "Can I?" and begin asking, "Does this glorify God and reflect wisdom?" Reflection & Small Group Discussion Questions 1. Why do Christians often debate tattoos so strongly compared to other cultural trends? 2. What was the original context of Leviticus 19:28, and why does that matter? 3. How can believers avoid both weaponizing Scripture and dismissing it carelessly? 4. What does Romans 12:2 teach about conformity and cultural influence? 5. Why is the question "Should I?" more mature than simply asking "Can I?" 6. How does 1 Corinthians 6:19–20 shape the way Christians should think about their bodies? 7. Why do motives matter so much in decisions involving self-expression and identity? 8. How does modern culture push people toward "branding" and defining themselves externally? 9. What is the difference between Paul's "marks of Jesus" and modern tattoo culture? 10. What practical steps can help believers make wise, prayerful decisions instead of impulsive cultural ones?

We don't talk about the God of suffering enough… On this episode of Mature Me, I sit down with my friend @samueljames.kelly, a husband and father of three, and the youth pastor of @fellowshipchurch. His life has been shaped by a deep conviction and valleys with God on top of a calling to lead the next generation. We talk about the spiritual openness we're seeing right now. A generation reaching the end of itself earlier than most, realizing what the world offers isn't enough and looking for something real. This is where revival begins. Not in hype, but in truth. In repentance. In understanding both the weight of sin and the depth of God's grace. We also talk about the harder parts of following Jesus. The silence. The grief. The prayers that don't get answered the way you hoped. And learning not to confuse God's silence with His absence. Some of the most important growth happens in the seasons we wish you could skip.Tune into the premiere tonight at 7:30PM on the Rich Wilkerson Jr. YouTube Channel

Most hunters spend their off-season trying to make things easier. Better gear. Warmer clothes. Closer access. And honestly? I get it. Comfort is seductive. Your brain is literally wired to chase it. But here's what nobody in the hunting industry wants to tell you: comfort might be the single biggest thing standing between you and consistently killing mature deer. In this episode, we're digging into something that underlies everything we've talked about in the Hunter's Operating System series. Discomfort. Not suffering for the sake of suffering, but deliberate exposure to hard things that builds the kind of conditioning most hunters never develop. Here's the reality. Mature bucks don't live in easy places. They live in the margins. The nasty, hard-to-reach terrain that most people look at and immediately write off. If your threshold for discomfort is low, you'll never consistently go where the deer actually are. Or you'll go once, decide it isn't worth it, and head back to the easy spots everyone else is hunting. I talk about what training jiu-jitsu taught me about this, because a hard round on the mat and a brutal November sit have more in common than you'd think. Both put you in a place where your body wants out and your brain starts building its case for quitting. The difference between hunters who punch tags and hunters who don't often comes down to whether they recognize that negotiation for what it is: a feeling, not a verdict. I also get into a two-week Midwest hunt that nearly broke me. Eight days in. Same buck. Two misses. Tag still in my pocket. I almost went home. I didn't. And in the last 30 minutes of the last day, everything came together. That's the hunt. Not the one on day one when you're fresh and fired up, but the one that happens when you're exhausted, beaten up, and your brain has assembled a genuinely reasonable argument for quitting. The hunters who separate themselves aren't the ones who never feel that pull. They feel it just as much. They've just built the capacity to stay anyway. Every hard thing you choose in the off-season is a decision you've already made before the season starts.
