In this season premiere of IRL: Online Life is Real Life, host Bridget dives into how dating apps reinforce harmful beauty standards rooted in whiteness, automating what researcher Dr. Apryl Williams calls “sexual racism” into the user experience. Welcome to the last episode of our 3 part 'Detroit Cares About Caregivers' Series! What resources actually exist for caregivers, and how do you access them when you need support? This question haunts many people thrust into caregiving roles, often leaving them feeling isolated and overwhelmed. In this episode, we bring together powerhouse resources ready to lighten your load—without emptying your wallet. The biggest revelation? Many people providing significant care don't identify as caregivers at all. "If you're providing services for a loved one, a neighbor, anyone that depends on you for assistance, advice, or expertise—you are a caregiver," explains Dr. McNeill, DNP, Project Director of Wayne State University's A.G.R.E.E.D-GWEP program. This critical identity shift opens the door to a wealth of support many never knew existed. We dive deep with experts from three major organizations: Wayne State University's Geriatric Workforce Enhancement Program (a $5 million initiative), the Alzheimer's Association Michigan Chapter, and the Detroit Area Agency on Aging. Each shares concrete resources they offer completely free—from respite care options and support groups to innovative apps that help navigate the healthcare system and ensure accountability from providers.Whether you're new to caregiving or have been shouldering responsibilities for years, this episode connects you with organizations that have already done the hard work of figuring out what caregivers need. As we wrap up our Detroit tour, we leave listeners with practical entry points to engage with these resources—websites, phone numbers, upcoming events, and most importantly, the encouragement to reach out.Remember: Alzheimer's is heavy, but we don't have to be. Follow us for more conversations that bring light to the caregiving journey and subscribe to ensure you never miss an episode that might just change your caregiving experience. For more information about the AGREED program, please visit http://agreed.wayne.edu. Support the show"Alzheimer's is heavy but we ain't gotta be!"IG: https://www.instagram.com/parentingupFB: https://www.facebook.com/parentingupYT: https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCDGFb1t2RC_m1yMnFJ2T4jwPatreon: https://patreon.com/jsmilesstudiosTEXT 'PODCAST" to +1 404 737 1449 - to give J topic ideas, feedback, say hi!Be sure to leave us a review!

In part 2 of our conversation, Virginia and I dove deep into what it really looks like to live from heaven to earth—not just in theory, but in our daily lives, businesses, and spiritual practices. We talked about co-creating with God, flowing in corporate unity, and walking in our kingly authority as sons of God.From powerful stories of divine encounters to practical insight on discipling your soul and tuning your spiritual senses, Virginia shared wisdom that will both anchor and activate you.Whether you're new to this journey or deep into your Kingdom realm flow, this conversation will stretch your thinking, stir your hunger, and help you walk in the authority you already carry. This is a movement, not a moment. There's a new wineskin emerging, and this awakening is more than information. It's transformation—and it's happening through people like us.If you missed part 1 - you know what to do.  ;-)BIO RECAP: For over 30 years, Virginia Killingsworth has ministered to children, teens, and families in residential settings and has pastored people in a vast array of situations. She accesses the wisdom of heaven to enable people to understand and cooperate with the Father throughout their unique spiritual maturation process. She is skilled at untangling even the most complex stronghold and releasing Holy Spirit's healing and freedom into the deep places of the soul. Her passion is to help people identify and walk in the fullness of their destinies and to live victoriously from heaven to earth.HIGHLIGHTS:Revelation without the “how to” = FrustrationVirginia nails it: we've got tons of powerful teaching out there, but without translating it into daily life, it just floats away. Her Overshadowed group helps put “skin on it” by making revelation practical, actionable, and personal. The Brain Shreds New Info (Unless You Practice!)Learning isn't one-and-done—it's more like learn, forget, repeat… until it sticks. Virginia's group offers homework and community accountability so new truths actually get lived out instead of lost in the shuffle.Group Dynamics Expose and Heal Hidden StuffWhen you start applying kingdom principles, anything that doesn't align starts bubbling up. Being in a safe group means you can process old mindsets or familiar junk with people who cheer you on, not judge you.“Transformation Comes from Implementation” (Bralynn's “famous” quote.) ;-)James said it best—be doers of the Word! This isn't shelf-help. If it doesn't show up in your actions and real life, it won't stick. That's why you need practical action steps to anchor spiritual truths. The Overshadowed Group is for Womb-Bearers of HeavenWhether you're birthing breakthrough in your family or contending for cities, the Overshadowed group is for anyone who wants to co-create with God and bring heaven to earth. Inspired by encounters with God's overshadowing presence, this group is a training ground for spiritual midwives of the new era.Find your voice, but tune in to the room.Virginia encourages people to speak up and bring their piece—but with sensitivity. It's not about dominating; it's about flowing with others in harmony, especially in a Kingdom-centered space. Be bold and aware.Learn to catch the corporate wave.In Christ-focused gatherings here's a “higher stream” that flows above all our individual musings. It's the corporate move of God. Tuning into that requires rising above your bubble and listening beyond your own circumstances. You're not a thermometer—you're a thermostat.Virginia reminds us: we're not just called to reflect the atmosphere; we carry the authority to shift it. Don't just report the spiritual weather—set the spiritual tone with your presence. That's Kingdom maturity in action.  We're not stuck in our Zoom boxes.Don't let screens fool you—we're one in Spirit. Bralynn and Virginia both affirm that spirit-travel and unity across the globe is possible. We're wired for spirit-to-spirit communication. The church has only scratched the surface of what's possible when we meet together in the spirit. These Zoom rooms can literally be launching pads for spiritual transformation across nations. Science is finally catching up with the BibleWhat used to sound mystical now has brainwave studies and quantum physics backing it up. Our spiritual experiences are legit, and science is starting to prove it.Sustained spiritual practice requires real commitmentThis isn't a “dabble for a few weeks” kind of lifestyle. It takes intentionality and consistency over the long haul. The tyranny of the urgent is killing depth – So many people are overwhelmed with options, driven by FOMO, and never committing to one thing long enough to bear fruit. The enemy's top tactic is fragmentation and distractionNot just with sin, but with good things that pull us away from divine assignments. We get spread too thin to go deep. The kingdom calls for discipline and intentional pursuit.Melchizedek order means we legislate from heaven and manifest on earth. Our priesthood is not Levitical. We operate from a higher realm and see fruit in the natural. We're called to translate spiritual concepts into real life – Too often, church doesn't equip people to live the supernatural in the everyday. That's why they come to us.LINKS for VIRGINIA:– Join Overshadowed: Virginia's group mentorship program—birthed by a divine blueprint and brought to life through practical support (shout-out to Bralynn!). Send us a textWhen Jack Stewart turned off the internet, he discovered that digital connection often acts as a “social appetite suppressant”—satisfying on the surface, but not deeply nourishing. In this conversation, Jack explains how removing online distractions led him to seek out in-person connection, from literally knocking on neighbors' doors to organizing his own book and writing salons. We discuss the qualitative difference between digital admirers and real friends, and why meaningful conversations rarely happen through casual online chat. Jack outlines how he created formal spaces—book clubs, writing groups, salons—to foster intellectual depth and genuine community. The discussion moves to Jack's research on “common pool resources,” and the practical lessons from Nobel Prize winner Eleanor Ostrom's work on how communities can successfully govern shared spaces. We explore what makes a community sustainable, including trust, collective rule-making, and how conflict is resolved without defaulting to authority or privatization.Cecilie and Jesper share their own experiences with offline community-building and the Scandinavian tradition of “hygge” as an egalitarian way of sharing space. The episode finishes with a reflection on what it really takes to build trust, give comfort, and create belonging in a world shaped by digital isolation.

This candid conversation pulls back the curtain on what it really means to lead boldly, mentor intentionally, and manage the complexities of public education without losing yourself in the process.Caposey shares what it's been like managing two very different districts at once, navigating rural school leadership, and scaling back a thriving speaking career to focus on what matters most. He discusses the importance of time management, the role of ego in leadership, and how self-awareness has shaped his evolution as a superintendent and mentor. The conversation turns personal as Caposey reflects on key mentors, lessons from leading during crisis, and the flat nature of school district hierarchies that often limit upward mobility. His take? Great leaders “see more and before,” and their job is to speak potential into existence for students, teachers, and peers alike.Key Moments05:57 Forge Relationships Through Sincere Questions09:25 "Visionary Leadership and Mentorship"11:17 Rural Education Challenges and Opportunities15:10 Illinois' Future Amid Uncertainty16:54 Leadership Insights and Education CrisisWhy You'll Love This Episode:Dr. PJ Caposey doesn't sugarcoat the work but he brings heart, humor, and hard-won wisdom to every challenge. Send Cathy a text:)Stepping into a hospital house is entering a world most caregivers never know exists until they're suddenly immersed in it. After 45+ days living at Kathy's House while my husband undergoes stem cell transplant treatment, I've discovered the raw, complex reality of caregiving away from home—and the unexpected community that forms in these spaces of collective vulnerability.Between the shared kitchens where caregivers exchange whispered stories over coffee, the laundry rooms where tears and laughter flow equally, and the quiet corners where we all seek momentary solitude, these medical housing communities become more than just places to sleep near the hospital. They become lifelines of support when everything familiar has been stripped away. The daily rhythm at Kathy's House constantly shifts between early morning hospital visits, meal preparation in communal spaces, finding moments for essential self-care, and navigating the practical logistics of living in an unfamiliar city. From discovering the safest grocery stores to handling car maintenance between appointments, caregiving doesn't pause for real-world responsibilities. Through it all, fellow caregivers become unexpected sources of strength—offering to wash your dishes when you're exhausted or simply sharing knowing glances across the dining room during community meals. What I've learned most profoundly is how caregiving transforms across different settings. Hospital caregiving focuses on advocacy and emotional support, while hospital house caregiving blends direct care with creating normalcy in an abnormal situation. The weight of homesickness—missing my garden, my pets, my own bed—is balanced by the deep connections formed with others walking similar paths. Through bringing small comforts from home, establishing new routines, and embracing micro-connections with fellow caregivers, I've discovered you can create a sense of belonging even in the midst of medical uncertainty. If you've experienced hospital house living or extended caregiving away from home, I'd love to hear your story. What small comforts did you bring to create a sense of home? How did you maintain your own well-being while supporting someone else's healing? Send me a text—because sharing these hidden caregiving journeys reminds us all that even in our most isolating moments, we're never truly alone.Support the show

“What story are you living and what story are you leaving.” DeLand McCullough In this powerful Father's Day special of The Pivot Podcast, Ryan, Fred, and Channing sit down with Super Bowl-winning coach DeLand McCullough for one of the most incredible and inspiring conversations about family and faith. Known for his work on the field, DeLand opens up about the deeply personal journey off the field that reshaped his life — discovering his biological father as an adult and learning how that revelation changed his understanding of identity, fatherhood, and destiny. It's the kind of story you'd think was scripted in Hollywood — a man at birth grows up never knowing his biological family, becomes a star athlete and championship coach, and then, in a twist no screenwriter could invent, discovers that the mentor who helped shape his football journey is actually his biological father. It's a full-circle moment filled with fate, family, and rejuvenation — a real-life ‘long-lost father' story that doesn't just tug at your heartstrings, it rewrites them. Through candid reflection and heartfelt honesty, he talks about what it means to be a father — to his own sons, including those following in his football footsteps — and how the lessons he's learned have molded the man he is today. This isn't just a conversation about football — it's about the bonds that define us, the stories we carry, and the choices we make that can break generational cycles and that faith is real if you allow it to lead you. We get into all the hows, the whys and whats but for more detailed perspective, check out DeLand's book- Runs In The Family, for a written adaptation of his story, one that seems fiction but as real as it comes.  Tune in and Pivot with purpose on this day, as we celebrate Father's Day with a story that will move you, inspire you, and remind you of the strength in every day. This week, in Farmville, Virginia, four people are found, unrecognizably brutalized, in an otherwise quiet neighborhood. This leads detectives to the family's teenage daughter's online love interest, a "horrorcore" rapper, who came to visit, after dropping out of school, due to being picked on. Will he confess all the horrific details, or will he insist on his innocence?    Along the way, we find out that the town wasn't named after an annoying app based game, that "horrorcore" rap has quite a diverse group of participants, and that if you only rap about murdering people, you probably shouldn't actually murder anybody!!   New episodes every Wednesday & Friday nights!!   Donate at patreon.com/crimeinsports or got to paypal.com and use our email crimeinsports@gmail.com Go to shutupandgivememurder.com for all things Small Town Murder, Crime In Sports & Your Stupid Opinions!   Follow us on... instagram.com/smalltownmurder facebook.com/smalltownpod   Also, check out James & Jimmie's other shows, Crime In SPorts & Your Stupid Opinions on Apple Podcasts, Spotify, or wherever you listen to podcasts!!
