I saw Lisa at the station. We watched a movie last night. Look at this photo. Look, I understand what you're saying. See, watch, and look are all connected to using our eyes, so it's easy to mix them up. But there are some important differences. Sometimes something simply comes into view. Sometimes we choose to pay attention to something for a period of time. And sometimes we use look without talking about our eyes at all.Have you been confused by see, watch, and look? If so, you're in luck—because today, we're going to check out the different ways you can use see, watch, and look naturally, in everyday English. The Happy English PodcastHelping people speak English better since 2014Over 1,000 episodes • 8 million downloads

Ever bought a beautiful color-coded planner and abandoned it in 10 days? Jessica and Kelly get real about why aspirational, Instagram-perfect systems fail — and what actually works instead. This episode is about meeting yourself where you're at: building systems that are low-friction, flexible, forgiving, and repeatable, especially on hard days. Because social media isn't perfection, it's performance — and real systems need to expect a human, not a highlight reel. What We Cover Why perfect systems fail — Instagram and Pinterest systems assume consistency, predictable schedules, and stable moods, while real life includes hormones, travel, burnout, grief, and aging parents. If a system collapses under stress, it was never actually supportive. What real systems look like — low friction, flexible, forgiving, sustainable, and repeatable, not aspirational Trading elaborate for repeatable, with real-life examples: A 10-minute anchor habit (coffee, stretching, reviewing the day) instead of a 90-minute morning routine Three default dinners on rotation instead of an elaborate weekly meal plan A 15-minute nightly "closing shift" where everyone tidies a few things instead of a full nightly reset Two inbox folders — Action and Archive — instead of inbox perfection Three priorities a day (sticky note optional) instead of a complicated goal-tracking system The smallest-version question — asking "what's the smallest version of this that would still move things forward?" to get unstuck on things like replying to an email or text Habit stacking — attaching new habits to something you already do daily (like making coffee), rather than building something from scratch Real examples from Jessica and Kelly's own homes, including: A baby-step lunch habit (grabbing simple protein like turkey pepperonis or trail mix) instead of full meal prep Planning just three meals a week and shopping just-in-time instead of stocking up in advance A shoes-at-the-door system and laying out clothes the night before A weekly family scheduling check-in (including grandparents) to coordinate who's taking whom where The energy system check — asking "what kind of energy do I have today?" and adapting instead of punishing yourself for being human Free Resource The Organizational Style Quiz helps you figure out whether you're a visual organizer, a minimalist, a flexible stacker, or someone who needs more structure. In this interview, author Stephen Harrigan discusses his historical novel, The Leopard is Loose, which centers on a real-life animal escape in 1950s Oklahoma City. The narrative follows young Grady McCarty and his family as they navigate the psychological and social shifts of the post-World War II era. Harrigan explains how the leopard serves as a catalyst for a community already destabilized by veterans' PTSD, looming Cold War anxieties, and the rigid structures of racial segregation. By filtering the story through Grady's childhood bewilderment and adult reflection, the book examines a family struggling to reconcile past trauma with an uncertain future. The discussion highlights how the pursuit of the escaped animal energized men who felt obsolete in a changing society, while also exposing the deep rifts within American domestic life.1916 TEXAS

Frank and Jonathan are on vacation, so they dumped out a jar of ten random prompts and let the conversation run wherever it wanted. The result is a loose, funny grab-bag that swings from tabletop confessions to actual streaming news. They open by asking whether their D&D characters could survive a single day in the real world, which turns into a live rescue plan for Jonathan's volatile, faith-questioning gunslinger and a great story about the priest who quietly let a party member die. From there it is physical media versus streaming (with a Netflix boycott and a terabyte of movies packed for a cruise), the most toxic fandom corners (Pokemon card scalping, weighed packs, and Star Wars media literacy), the games everyone owns but never finishes, retro comebacks worth reviving, and the classics they think are a little overrated. The back half gets newsier with Good Mythical Morning heading to Netflix as a daily show, a debate about Emmy legitimacy versus chasing a new algorithm, and a closing round on which fictional universe would actually be miserable to live in. Timestamps and Topics 00:00 Intro and Vacation Filler Setup 00:24 Would Your D&D Character Survive Real Life? 07:03 Physical Media vs. Streaming 10:32 The Most Toxic Fandom Corners 17:11 Games You Own but Never Finished, Plus Retro Comebacks 22:05 Overrated Classics and Villain Redemption Arcs 27:07 Casting the D&D Campaign 29:11 Good Mythical Morning Heads to Netflix 34:36 The Fictional Universe That Would Actually Suck Key Takeaways Instead of retiring a chaotic character, Frank pitches turning Jonathan's crisis-of-faith gunslinger into someone actively fighting a chaos god, a reminder that a table can repair a character rather than shelve it. The physical media conversation lands on owning your favorites, fueled by climbing Netflix prices, Christmas movies that vanish from streaming, and a stack of downloads big enough to survive a stranded cruise ship. Pokemon card culture gets named the most toxic fandom corner, from pack-weighing and resale fights to Target reportedly cutting boxes open to kill the scalper market. Media literacy is the throughline for the Star Wars and Dungeon Crawler Carl "too woke" complaints, since both were anti-fascist and anti-capitalist from the start. Gaming talk hits the Oblivion remaster, cautious hope for Elder Scrolls VI amid Xbox layoffs and Bethesda leaning on proven IP, and one very honest Elden Ring skill check. Good Mythical Morning moving to Netflix drives the biggest debate: fresh cash and Emmy legitimacy on one side, the risk of chasing a new algorithm and turning away from YouTube on the other. Quotes "If you think it's too woke, it's been that way from the beginning." "We have to make our point with our wallet." "I return and tell him he was already dead." "I got my ass handed to me so hard I returned it within two hours." "Don't turn your back on YouTube after you literally built your success." With a storyteller's warmth he traces the quiet, unseen steps that bring us closer to God—like the traveler who suddenly discovers an exit sign and realizes the journey was shorter than it felt. Thursday afternoon means a fresh episode of Real Life was recorded and edited, and it's ready to help you wrap up the week. On today's podcast, the guys discussed the insane Edmonton weather we're having, Tyler's vacation plans, old Nation Gear designs, and much more. The guys kicked off this week's episode of Real Life with a run of topics that were not at all planned and completely random. Given that there is next to no Oilers news happening right now, the boys had the opportunity to wander into whatever topic they chose whether it was a good idea or not. From Tony Romo's legal situation to taking Ubers home from the bar to bossing robots around, the first segment of the podcast was all over the map and made no sense whatsoever.Changing gears, Tyler walked the boys through his upcoming holiday plans and how he's still not sure whether he'll be able to take his electric hummer on his road trip. Given that superchargers aren't overly plentiful in Alberta yet, the choice of taking his Hummer on the road is almost being stripped from him. That said, these are champagne problems to say the least. Will Tyler get sympathy from the audience? Unlikely. Finally, the guys wrapped up the podcast on the Thursday episode of Real Life with a run of topics, starting with a recap of old Nation Gear designs that Rick brought into the office from the archives, and how there have been some horrible designs. From there, the guys looked back in Oilers history and had a conversation about how bad some of the old Decade of Darkness seasons where despite ON being around the whole time.

Looksmaxxing. It's a term that's started to pop up everywhere, made popular by social media personalities like Braden Eric Peters, also known as "Clavicular." And as it's started to bleed into our common parlance, you can pretty much "-maxx" anything these days, as the concept turns into a kind of joke. But the normalization of the term hides a darker and dangerous connection to the ideas surrounding the phenomenon.   Host Maria Kestane speaks with Dr. Jordan Foster, an assistant sociology professor at MacEwan University, about the "looksmaxxing" phenomenon, what it means, how it's grown in popularity, and what it means for men's sense of themselves.  We love feedback at The Big Story, as well as suggestions for future episodes. But cooking, sewing, meal planning, budgeting, gardening, and creating with your hands are the very skills that build confidence, resilience, and independence. In this episode of The Homestead Education Podcast, Kody Hanner sits down with Jessica Clark of The Lark Life to discuss why practical life skills deserve a place alongside traditional academics—and how families can begin teaching them today. Jessica shares how teaching her children to cook, sew, quilt, and create has transformed their confidence and given them ownership over their education. Together, they explore why children were designed to be creators rather than passive consumers, and how giving kids meaningful responsibilities helps them develop problem-solving skills that last a lifetime. Whether you homeschool, attend public school, or simply want to raise more capable kids, this conversation offers practical encouragement for bringing home economics back into everyday family life. In This Episode Why home economics is making a comeback Teaching cooking, sewing, quilting, and practical life skills Helping children become creators instead of consumers Building confidence through responsibility and hands-on learning Why mistakes are one of the best teachers Raising kids who contribute to the family instead of simply being entertained Teaching boys and girls the same practical skills Creating a home where learning happens naturally Jessica's new Foundations in Quilting curriculum for homeschool families What "Keep Growing" means and why lifelong learning matters Key Takeaways Home economics is about far more than cooking—it's about preparing children for adulthood. Kids gain confidence when they're trusted with real responsibilities. Creativity, problem-solving, and resilience are learned by doing, not by watching. Families don't need expensive equipment or perfect conditions to begin teaching practical skills. Some of the most meaningful education happens around the kitchen table, in the garden, or beside a sewing machine. Most supplement routines fail because they ask people to follow a perfect daily ritual in an imperfect real life Complicated regimens with multiple bottles, doses, and reminders create friction that causes people to quit over time Research suggests heavier daily pill burden often links to poorer adherence, while simpler routines tend to help people stay consistent Pill swallowing itself can be a major barrier, especially when people need to take several capsules at once Habits form best when a new behavior connects to a stable daily cue, and eating provides one of the most reliable cues in daily life. Food-first supplement formats aim to make daily use easier by fitting targeted support into meals instead of adding another separate health chore

Learn about a New York farmer's costly property dispute with squatters to Harrison Ford's real-life rescue 25 years ago and a simple travel tip for staying connected without cell service that even the kids will love. Join radio hosts Rebecca Wanner aka ‘BEC' and Jeff ‘Tigger' Erhardt (Tigger & BEC) with the latest in Outdoors & Western Lifestyle News! Farmer Says Neighbor Claimed Part of His Cornfield Through "Squatter's Rights" A New York farmer is fighting to reclaim part of his cornfield after a neighbor claimed ownership through a legal process known as adverse possession, often called "squatter's rights." A little back history, the parcel in the case is a 300-acre farm that was leased by the brothers in the 1970s up until 2009, when the landlord offered to sell the ground. They purchased the property, continuing to farm the ground. Directly adjacent to the 300-acre farm sat a private residence—an older, but well-maintained house on a 2.5-acre lot. The house was fronted by a highway and surrounded on three sides by Hoskins' newly-acquired farmland. Stan Hoskins, 79, says what started as a small garden crossing onto his property gradually expanded over the years. According to Hoskins, the neighbor added a fence, a greenhouse, and several maple trees, eventually taking over about 60 feet of the field. The man the Hoskins purchased the farm had property line disputes with the owners of this house, according to Hoskins. When they went from being a tenant to being an owner, the property line dispute became ours. The Hoskins thought basic reason and decency would solve things, but were dead wrong. Instead they walked into a wall of entitlement. When Hoskins asked the neighbor to remove the structures in 2024, the neighbor argued the land now belonged  to him under adverse possession laws. Those laws can allow someone to gain ownership of property if they openly use it for a certain period of time and meet specific legal requirements, which vary by state. The dispute has led to an expensive court battle. Hoskins says he has spent about $75,000 in legal fees trying to recover the land. He even offered a compromise that would allow the garden to remain temporarily while preventing future ownership claims, but the offer was rejected. The case is scheduled to go before a judge in late July 2026. Hoskins hopes his experience serves as a warning to other landowners. His advice: don't ignore small property line disputes, because they can grow into costly legal battles over time. If you remember, the teen had become separated from his troop, spending the night in a cave. The next morning the boy scout used his belt buckle to reflect sunlight into the sky, catching the attention of Harrison Ford, an avid helicopter pilot, landed - picking up the teen and safely flew him back to his troop. The year before in 2020, Harrison Ford had assisted another rescue. This time a climber who suffered from altitude sickness climbing the Table Mountain in Idaho Falls, Idaho. During that rescue Ford helped the hiker into his helicopter, then flew to an area hospital. Can you imagine Indiana Jones or Hans Solo actually saving you?! Summer Tip Trip: Don't Count on Cell Service Ever find yourself visiting high trafficked areas only to be in zero cell service? For example, a recent tourist in Yellowstone when driving up to one of the popular locations. The husband, thanks to walkie talkies, would pull up and drop off the family, always taking along a walkie talkie. Once parked they were able to meet up easily via directions on the walkie.  Another use for walkie talkies? Use on cruise ships when cell service plans don't cover while at sea or if you don't want to spend the extra money for an internet plan. OUTDOORS FIELD REPORTS & COMMENTS We want to hear from you! She saw the tumor months before the diagnosis. While praying over her seemingly healthy mother, Abby Robertson had a vision so disturbing she could not bring herself to write it down. Two to three months later, her mother was diagnosed with pancreatic cancer, already spreading and beyond surgery. Abby prayed with a certainty she had never felt, convinced God had prepared her to witness a healing. What happened next sent her searching for answers she is still looking for. In this episode, she and Ryan Bethea of The Exorcist Files sit down with Nate and Luke to talk about what it actually means to hear the voice of the Holy Spirit, and what to do when the answer is not the one you begged for.Abby is the granddaughter of CBN founder Pat Robertson, and she brings the whole family story with her: a man who sold every possession he owned, moved his family into a rat-infested Bronx apartment, and launched the first Christian television network with three dollars to his name.
