In this episode, we dive into three hot conversations rocking the plant-based world. First, we tackle the seed oil panic, are they really toxic, or is it just the latest scapegoat? Dr. Matthew Nagra joins Rich Roll to separate facts from fear. Then, we unpack Lizzo's controversial claims about quitting veganism, needing animal protein, and blaming fake meat for fatigue. And finally, we celebrate the unstoppable Chef Babette, the 75-year-old raw-food powerhouse showing the world what aging on plants can really look like. This episode is part science, part culture critique, and part inspiration, with one unifying message: don't believe everything you're told about food.

Hello and welcome back to First Principles. I'm thrilled to bring you episode 46, my conversation with Anand Jain, the co-founder of Mumbai-headquartered customer engagement platform CleverTap.Anand and I were once colleagues at the media conglomerate Network 18. He got out before I did.In 2013 he and two of his colleagues, Sunil Thomas and Kondamudi, left Network 18 and decided to fire up their respective laptops and code a new customer engagement platform. In just a few months, WizRocket, as it was then called, found its first â albeit non-paying customer. Then, in fairly short order, word-of-mouth driven inbound Seed and Series A investments.Over time it became Clevertap, raising over $180M in VC funding and becoming a globally used and respected product. As it turns out though, one of Clevertap's operating philosophies is, well, First Principles. A strong reason is because Anand himself is a strong believer in it.At the age of 12 he lost his dad. Thus, at an age when kids are taught to focus only on studies, Anand started tinkering, repairing and learning computer programming to earn money to put food on the table. His first business was a scheduling system for lawyers in Ahmedabad, written in FoxPro. That was in 1994.His friends in college called him âkhurpechiâ in Hindi. Literally, that's a person who uses a khurpi â a gardening tool â to turn soil over to weed crops or plants. Colloquially though, that's a person who is curious, restless and is always meddling around with things that don't concern them directly.Along the way, Anand co-founded Burrp, one of India's first restaurant review portals, which got acquired by Network 18. While he was building and running Burrp, he also started manufacturing and selling pigeon spikes to shops, because he noticed there was no one doing that in India!âI shouldn't be here,â he told me. Why, I asked. He is not very smart, he replied. He doesn't have good educational pedigree. He did not even study computer science formally. But, he said, he is extremely hard working and believes that anything can be learnt through hard work and perseverance. You can see why First Principles is a concept that is dear to Anand.I asked him how happy he was on a scale of 10. He said 10.I asked him if he'd ever thought of retiring. He said never. Life is too short to not have fun, he said.Indeed, it is. So let's dive into episode 46, with Anand Jain, co-founder of Clevertap. This is part 2 of my conversation with him-This episode was produced by Hari Krishna, with mixing and mastering by Rajiv CN.Write to us at fp@the-ken.com with your feedback, suggestions and guests you would want to see on First Principles. If you enjoyed this episode, please help us spread the word by sharing and gifting it to your friends and family.

In this episode of Christ the Center, Camden Bucey and Jim Cassidy engage in a lively and theologically rich conversation. Fresh from attending Greenville Presbyterian Theological Seminary's summer seminar with David Hall and Carl Trueman, Camden shares highlights from the event before turning to the main topic: a preview of the 2025 Reformed Forum Theology Conference. This year's themeâThe Things Concerning Himself: Christ in All the Scripturesâwill explore how the entire Bible, from Genesis to Revelation, reveals Christ as the sum and substance of God's covenantal plan. Camden and Jim walk through each of the planned addresses, reflecting on why Christ is not an âadded-onâ figure to the Old Testament, but its very heart from the beginning. Along the way, they share personal ministry stories, insights on biblical theology, and a taste of the fellowship that makes these gatherings so special. Join us September 27, 2025 at Lakeland Church in Gurnee, Illinois, for an edifying day of teaching, conversation, and community. Come early for the Friday night pre-conference at Primo's Italian Steakhouse. Registration is now open, with early-bird rates through September 1, 2025. Learn more and reserve your spot at reformedforum.org/conference. Whether you are a pastor, student, or serious layperson, this conference will help you see more clearly how all of Scripture points to Christâand how that transforms our understanding, devotion, and service to him. For years now, the Norwegian government in partnership with conservation groups has been storing seeds from around the world on an island not far from the North Pole. The duplicate seeds are basically backups meant to secure the world's food supply in case the original supply is one day compromisedâby war or natural disaster, for example. Adam and Cameron discuss the Svalbard Global Seed Vault and how it works. Also on the show: The economics of Alaska For more on seeds, listen to State of Seed, a podcast by the International Seed Federation, with production services from FP Studios. A note to potential advertisers: Ones and Tooze is looking for a lead sponsor interested in underwriting the show for a year in exchange for advertising and promotional opportunities in all 52 episodes. The package could also include a stage presence in Ones and Tooze live shows, an executive-level briefing by Adam and Cameron, and other crossover events. To some, communion is just a ritual. But in this message, Dr. Tony Evans unpacks the deeper meaning behind the bread and the cupâand explains how this sacred practice can renew your relationship with Christ.
If you suffer from migraines, or you know someone who does, please listen to this episode (or get them to). I don't want to spoil the show, so I'm going to opt for "less is more" but the I think the information, insight, and science that Gillespo downloads in this chat could - for some people - be life-changing. The only story l'll share here is that Gillespo's wife - who experienced multiple debilitating migraines every month over the course of her entire life - made one simple change (no drugs) in 2014, and since that time, has not had one single migraine (zero!) in eleven years. Obviously, people can respond differently to the same 'treatment' but there is also some amazing recent research (which we discuss) from The British Medical Journal which aligns with Gillespo's hypothesis. Enjoy.See omnystudio.com/listener for privacy information.
As sunny days slowly return many of you will be getting out the gloves and shears to spend the weekend in the garden. Well, here's an idea that'll have the neighbours talking ...an initiative called 'Stems of Wonder'. It's a delivery service for curious gardeners, and every couple of weeks they receive unique seeds to plant, sourced from all over the world. Jo Parkin explains to Emile how she got it off the ground

Watch the Video This podcast is an edited version of the video, where I have removed the unboxing section, as it's challenging to follow in an audio-only format. After reviewing the Keystone 3 Pro, I wanted to inspect the Keystone Tablet Plus, a steel slab similar to the Coinkite Seed Plate and the Scaletron Crypto Seed Capsule, both of which I've reviewed. Watch the video below for my review, but also read the text below, as it includes one additional PRO and one additional CON that I did not mention in the video. Timeline 00:00 Why buy a metal tablet? 02:20 Unboxing 05:00 Using it 06:30 What is special about the Plus? 07:45 Pros 09:45 Cons 12:00 Verdict Buy a Keystone Tablet Plus 3 Pros of the Keystone Tablet Plus 1. Reusability! Unlike the Coinkite Seed Plate or the Scaletron Crypto Seed Capsule, the Keystone Tablet Plus is reusable. If you change seed phrases, you rearrange the letters accordingly. 2. Extra security! Two security features make the Keystone Tablet Plus stand out. First, the package includes tamper-evident tape. Second, it has a hole that allows you to put a padlock. Admittedly, neither of these features prevents a thief from outright stealing the metal plate and cutting the lock off. However, they can alert you if someone is trying to snoop on your seed phrase slyly and quietly drain your wallet. 3. Ease of use. I forgot to mention this in the video. Unlike the Coinkite Seed Plate or the Scaletron Crypto Seed Capsule, the Keystone Tablet Plus doesn't require you to awkwardly and permanently bang out your seed phrase. It 3 Cons of the Keystone Tablet Plus 1. No passphrase option. I forgot to mention this in the video review, but I thought about it after reviewing the Scaletron Crypto Seed Capsule. 2. 304 stainless steel might not survive a super-hot fire. It should survive a standard house fire, but if it's unlucky enough to go through hell, it may not make it. An affordable solution to this is to place it in a fireproof envelope to double your protection. 3. Won't survive a crushing. True, but this is highly unlikely. Keystone 3 Pro In case you missed it, check out my review of the Keystone 3 Pro, an outstanding cryptocurrency hardware wallet that can also serve as a Bitcoin-only hardware wallet. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=x5Mdqq5GrXo Visit the Keystone website to learn more about the company and its cryptocurrency products.
With so much conflicting health advice online, it's no wonder people feel overwhelmed by food choices. Is saturated fat really the enemy? Are seed oils as harmful as some headlines claim? You can watch our full conversation on YouTube or listen wherever you get your podcasts. We discuss: âą The real story behind seed oils, saturated fat, and inflammationâand what to do about it âą What your lab work can tell you about your unique nutrition needs âą How to spot nutrition misinformation and think critically about food trends âą Why cutting back on ultra-processed foods may be more important than obsessing over any single nutrient In a world full of nutrition noise, this episode helps you tune into what really mattersâscience, and your own body. In this episode of the Remarkable Retail podcast, hosts Michael LeBlanc and Steve Dennis welcome XRC Ventures' Managing Director Pano Anthos, for a deep dive into the future of retail innovation, investment strategies, and overcoming the systemic challenges that keep great technology from scaling.Pano shares his journey from serial entrepreneur to leading a venture fund focused on pre-seed and seed-stage investments at the intersection of retail, consumer behavior, and technology. With over 150 investments since 2015, XRC Ventures targets transformative sectors including retail media networks, the consumerization of healthcare, commerce enablement, and new distribution channels. Pano highlights examples of groundbreaking innovationsâfrom AI-driven financial automation to diagnostics that detect autism in under two hoursâthat are redefining operational efficiency and customer impact.A major focus of the conversation is retail's organizational dysfunction, where siloed leadership and competing P&Ls create âwarring tribesâ that hinder adoption of transformative solutions. Pano argues that true progress requires structural changeâappointing an operational leader with end-to-end responsibility for traffic and sales across all channels. The discussion also explores the promise of retail media, particularly in-store applications with untapped margin potential, and spatial intelligence, which can bring the precision of e-commerce analytics into physical stores. Pano shares candid insights on startup strategy, stressing that early-stage companies must demonstrate material ROIâsignificant EBITDA or revenue growthâto make it into a retailer's short list of investment priorities. About UsSteve Dennis is a strategic advisor and keynote speaker focused on growth and innovation, who has also been named one of the world's top retail influencers. Every season begins with a seed: Purpose in Every Season | Bishop Rick Thomas
This is part 1 of my conversation with him-This episode was produced by Hari Krishna, with mixing and mastering by Rajiv CN.Write to us at fp@the-ken.com with your feedback, suggestions and guests you would want to see on First Principles. If you enjoyed this episode, please help us spread the word by sharing and gifting it to your friends and family. Send us a textUnity in the Godhead stands at the core of God's redemptive plan. When we understand how Father, Son, and Holy Spirit work in perfect harmonyâeach fulfilling their distinct role without contradiction or competitionâwe grasp the magnificent coherence of salvation history. The discussion begins by examining this divine unity: the Father chooses those who will be saved, the Son sheds His blood for their redemption, and the Spirit provides regeneration to the very same individuals. This perfect coordination ensures that salvation is both effective and comprehensive for its intended recipients.A fascinating exploration follows regarding the biblical use of "all"âdoes Scripture mean every person without exception, or all people without distinction (from every nation and background)? Through practical examples and biblical analysis, we see how context shapes understanding, and how misinterpreting this small word can lead to significant theological confusion. The concept of election emerges naturally from this conversation. While some dismiss divine election as mere "Calvinism," the discussion demonstrates how this truth appears throughout Scripture without any reference to Calvin's theological system. More importantly, we see how God's choice of Israel in the Old Testament served as a type or prototype of His election of the churchâthe true spiritual Israel composed of believers from every nation.Perhaps most compelling is the examination of Christ's presence throughout the entire biblical narrative. From Genesis to Revelation, Jesus is the thread that holds Scripture together. The Old Testament consistently pointed toward Him through types, shadows, and promises that find their fulfillment in His person and work. As one participant notes, "every true believer should be able to preach the gospel even without the New Testament" because Christ appears on every page of Scripture. The relationship between law and promise reveals another layer of God's consistent plan. Rather than contradicting God's promises, the law served multiple purposes: marking out a people through whom Christ would come, revealing sin, and functioning as a guardian until faith would be fully revealed in Christ. The gospel hasn't changedâit has always been salvation by faith in the promised Seed.Join us as we continue unpacking these profound biblical truths that showcase the beautiful consistency of God's redemptive plan throughout history.Support the show
Send us a textSalvation has always beenâand will only ever beâthrough faith in God's promise. This foundational truth echoes throughout Paul's letter to the Galatians as he dismantles the dangerous notion that law-keeping contributes to our justification. The timing speaks volumes: God's promise to Abraham came 430 years before the Mosaic Law. This wasn't coincidental but intentional, demonstrating that the promise always held primacy. When the law arrived, it never superseded, replaced, or complemented the promise as a means of salvation. Rather, it served a distinct purposeârevealing transgressions until the promised Seed, Jesus Christ, would arrive.Paul's declaration is unequivocal: "By the works of the law no flesh shall be justified." This absolute statement leaves no room for any formula where law-keeping aids salvation. The idea that we can bring any act of obedience to enhance God's grace fundamentally misunderstands the gospel. One violation of one law, even in thought, would require Christ's redemptionâthat's how significant God's holiness is against human sinfulness. What does this mean for believers today? Freedom. Not freedom to sin, but freedom to approach God with childlike faith, receiving salvation as a gift rather than earning it through religious performance. When we grasp that we contribute nothing to our salvation except to receive it, we experience the transformative power of grace that changes us from the inside out.The panel discussion illuminates how this truth radically affects our understanding of sin, redemption, and identity. Adam's one sin condemned humanity; Christ's one sacrifice redeemed it. We don't go to hell because of what we've done but because of what we areâsinners in need of a Savior who can change our very nature.Listen and discover why complicating God's simple plan of salvation through grace undermines the very gospel we claim to believe. Your understanding of faith might never be the same.Support the show
Pregnant with her fifth child, Susan Horton had a lot of confidence in her parenting abilities. Then she ate a salad from Costco: an âeverythingâ chopped salad kit with poppy seeds. When she went to the hospital to give birth the next day, she tested positive for opiates. Horton told doctors that it must have been the poppy seeds, but she couldn't convince them it was true. She was reported to child welfare authorities, and a judge removed Horton's newborn from her care. âThey had a singular piece of evidence,â Horton said, âand it was wrong.âHospitals across the country routinely drug test people coming in to give birth. But the tests many hospitals use are notoriously imprecise, with false positive rates of up to 50 percent for some drugs. People taking over-the-counter cold medicine or prescribed medications can test positive for methamphetamine or opiates. This week on Reveal, our collaboration with The Marshall Project investigates why parents across the country are being reported to child protective services over inaccurate drug test results. Reporter Shoshana Walter digs into the cases of women who were separated from their babies after a pee-in-a-cup drug test triggered a cascade of events they couldn't control. This is an update of an episode that originally aired in September 2024. Send us a textOverview and alternative interpretation to the mainstream view on how dietary fat and cholesterol relate to cardiovascular disease.Episode Summary: Tucker Goodrich is an engineer by training who has become a prominent independent researcher and blogger on nutrition and metabolic health, focusing on the harms of seed oils and polyunsaturated fats.About the guest: Nick Jikomes and Tucker Goodrich explore atherosclerosis and heart disease, critiquing the standard model that blames high LDL cholesterol while highlighting how oxidized LDLâdriven by dietary linoleic acid from seed oilsâplays a key role in plaque formation and inflammation; they discuss historical shifts in heart disease rates, genetic factors like familial hypercholesterolemia, the limitations of animal studies, and why reducing seed oil intake could prevent issues more effectively than just lowering cholesterol.Discussion Points:Atherosclerosis involves plaque buildup in arteries, often leading to heart attacks, but plaques contain oxidized fats and cholesterol, not just native cholesterol.Dietary cholesterol has little impact on blood levels or heart disease in humans, unlike in rabbits used in many studies.High LDL may not be inherently bad; oxidized LDL from polyunsaturated fatty acids (PUFAs) like linoleic acid causes macrophages to overeat and form harmful foam cells.Familial hypercholesterolemia patients only show higher heart disease rates in modern, industrial diets high in seed oils, not historically.Populations like the Kitavans and TsimanĂ© have high apoB but no heart disease on traditional diets low in industrial foods.Fried foods are oxidized seed oils, explaining why they're unhealthy despite omega-6 fats being labeled "heart-healthy."Omega-3 fats can displace omega-6 in cells, reducing oxidation risk.Reference Papers:Witztum & Steinberg (1991)Boren et al. (2022)Related episode:Support the showAffiliates: Seed Oil Scout: Find restaurants with seed oil-free options, scan food products to see what they're hiding, with this easy-to-use mobile app. AquaTru: Reverse osmosis water filters.
