Fr. Mike explains the significance behind the mention of bones in Jeremiah and Ezekiel. In Jeremiah, we learn that the bones of God's people are scattered because of their worship of false gods. In Ezekiel, we see the prophet prophesy over the valley of dry bones and the Lord's Spirit restoring and moving within them. Today's readings are Jeremiah 8, Ezekiel 37-38, and Proverbs 14:33-35. God used his servant, Desmond Singh, to deliver a critical message to our assembly today. The Body of Christ desperately needs the power of God—a genuine outpouring of the Holy Ghost. In our assemblies today, we see fakery compared to the power of God that fell at Pentecost. When the Spirit of God moves, it does not need human motivation. The early church fasted and prayed for ten days, “And suddenly there came a sound from heaven as of a mighty rushing wind, and it filled all the house where they were sitting” (Acts 2:2). “And {they} began to speak with other tongues, {other languages, not nonsensical gibberish} as the Spirit gave them utterance.” Fakery invites “false apostles, deceitful workers, transforming themselves into the apostles of Christ. We ought to be surprised, “for Satan himself is transformed into an angel of light.” (2 Corinthians 11:13-14)

"The Valley of Dry Bones," Eastertide: We Look for the Resurrection of the Dead, Ezekiel 37:1-14, Rev. Jared Wensyel.
Reverend Clay Warden | Associate Pastor | Trinity Norfolk | Norfolk, VA
In a crazy, and somewhat spooky vision, God shows Ezekiel that He is still at work in spite of Israel's failures. He will be restoring Israel to what they were meant to be. And yet, this vision has a double meaning — one that is more applicable for us today. God is not only reviving Israel, but He is in fact restoring life to our dry bones. As we continue through Lent we see the promise of resurrection given long ago.

We want to believe or guarantee our safety if we just eat right, take the right vitamins, marry the right person, and pray the right prayers. But the truth is, we can't. Sometimes, we do everything right and still get sick, still get into an accident, still lose the person we love. Pain is not [...] Read More... Amen."

God leads Ezekiel in a trance to a valley where a morbid vision ensues. Bones become skeletons, skeletons become corpses, and corpses await the breath of God in military formation. What is the prophet to make of this strange scene?
