Through His Word and His Spirit, God builds His great army by reviving people who are dead in sin.
In the Book of Ezekiel, God takes the prophet Ezekiel into a valley filled with dry, dusty bones of things that have been dead for a long time, and then asks Ezekiel, “Can these bones live?” Ezekiel stammers back, “Only you know, Sovereign Lord.” Which is the correct answer. Sure, God *can* do anything He wants, but will He? Will He bring bones back to life? Only God knows. This story rings true, even for us today in our own valley. Everyone knows that the Bay Area is one of the most irreligious and unchurched areas not only in the United States, but the world. And it can seem rather hopeless at times. And in a valley filled with wealth, but in short supply of hope, filled with innovation, but in such short supply of wisdom and righteousness, can God bring even this valley back to life? Only God knows. And although we have no control over what He does or does not do - but we can take small steps to prepare our own hearts for God's presence in hopes our renewal might spark something - not just in us, but in those around us.

In the book of Ezekiel we find a story of a vision that God gave to the prophet Ezekiel of a valley of dry bones that he brings back to life. God is showing us that He brings dead things back to life. He does that for us when we put our faith in Jesus to restore and redeem us and He also does that when life feels like it's lost its meaning. When life feels dry and lifeless, we have a place to return to that breathes new life into us.
This powerful message delves into the profound symbolism of Ezekiel's vision of the valley of dry bones in Ezekiel 37. The dry bones represent the hopelessness and spiritual deadness that can overtake us when we face overwhelming challenges. Yet, as Ezekiel prophesies to the bones, we witness a miraculous transformation - the bones come together, flesh and sinew cover them, and the breath of God brings them to life. Whether you're standing in a valley of dry, dead bones, or in a cemetery, or when you're standing at the bed side of a loved one who has just died. Is there any hope for life in the midst of sin and death? Jesus has answered that question for us once and for all! Jesus is the Son of God who became the Son of Man, to come and give us life again. Everywhere Jesus went there was life. Sinners forgiven, the diseased healed, lepers cleansed, the blind given sight, the deaf given hearing, the mute given voice, the paralyzed walking again, the demon-possessed restored, and the dead raised. Jesus came and entered those voids of sin and death and grave that are our creation, to give us an answer to that question once and for all. “Son of Man, can these bones live?” Easter is God's resounding yes! Yes, these dry, dead bones can live. For in Jesus' resurrection, we see there is One who has atoned for our sin, who defeated death, and who conquered the grave. And because He did, He is able to do the same for you. To pull you out of the void. To forgive your sins. To give you comfort and hope. To give you life. And not only on the last day, but already here and now. For Ezekiel's vision was of the whole house of Israel, and that includes you.
