PhenoNet Cleared By FDA To Begin Phase 3 Trial Of Inhaled Alzheimer's Drug PhenoNet has received FDA clearance to begin a Phase 3 trial of PHENOGENE-1A, an inhaled formulation of cromolyn sodium, an asthma drug with decades of safety data. Unlike most Alzheimer's therapies, which target only APOE4 gene carriers, this ~648-person trial stratifies both carriers and non-carriers by genotype, testing whether reducing amyloid aggregation, inflammation, and microglial dysfunction can benefit a broader Alzheimer's population than current treatments reach. Host Dave Asprey explains why this genotype-inclusive design challenges the field's narrow focus on APOE4 carriers, and what it means for families with Alzheimer's history who don't carry the gene. Sources: https://www.morningstar.com/news/business-wire/20260813649121/phenonet-cleared-by-fda-to-begin-phase-3-trial-of-inhaled-phenogene-1a-in-early-alzheimers-disease https://www.businesswire.com/news/home/20260813649121/en/ https://www.phenonet.us ~~~University Of Zurich Researchers Discover The Adult Brain Can Repair Itself Better Than Believed Researchers at the University of Zurich identified a population of "regenerative astrocytes" in living mouse brains that repair damaged tissue through a previously unknown mechanism: dividing cells send newly formed nuclei traveling across long cellular extensions to repopulate injured regions and rebuild the astrocyte network. The discovery overturns the long-standing assumption that adult brains have limited capacity to replace lost astrocytes after injury or autoimmune disease. Host Dave Asprey unpacks why this finding reframes brain injury recovery as something the body may already be equipped to handle, and what the newly identified genetic pathways could mean for future regenerative therapies. While collagen produced more total bone volume, the keratin scaffold generated bone that was more structurally organized and closer to natural bone architecture, while remaining stable and integrating cleanly with surrounding tissue. Host Dave Asprey explains why bone quality, not just quantity, matters for weight-bearing repair, and why a cheaper, more sustainable material outperforming the standard is a bigger deal than it sounds. Host Dave Asprey weighs the compliance advantage of an oral option against his ongoing concerns about muscle loss, rebound weight gain, and the fact that GLP-1 drugs treat a symptom rather than the underlying metabolic cause. Only 12% of participants hit that higher threshold. Host Dave Asprey breaks down why public health minimums are a floor, not an optimization target, and what listeners serious about cardiovascular protection should actually be aiming for. A 2024 University of Iowa study found IV vitamin C combined with chemotherapy doubled overall survival in advanced pancreatic cancer patients. Host Dave Asprey reflects on how this vindicates a decades-old idea that was dismissed for the wrong reasons, and what it means for anyone facing a cancer diagnosis. Managing High Homocysteine with MTHFR Variants and the Role of Vitamin C in Brain Aging: Registered dietitian nutritionist Leyla Muedin discusses MTHFR genetic variants (C677T and A1298C), their links to impaired methylation, homocysteine, SAMe, mood issues, migraines, vitamin deficiencies, and pregnancy complications, noting many people are asymptomatic and some feel worse on methylated B vitamins and do better on standard formulations. Responding to a listener with C677T, high homocysteine, and borderline methylmalonic acid, she reviews optimal homocysteine targets and outlines other causes of elevated homocysteine such as hypothyroidism/subclinical hypothyroidism, kidney failure, obesity, hypertension, diabetes, smoking, inactivity, and medications (atorvastatin, methotrexate, fenofibrate). She suggests checking these factors, considering absorption issues (intrinsic factor) for B12, and trialing SAMe and more trimethylglycine, with possible pharmacologic folate if needed. She then summarizes an observational Japanese study (n=2,044 adults >64) linking lower plasma vitamin C to reduced gray matter and weaker default mode network connectivity, and notes diet and blood sugar can affect vitamin C status.

You've probably heard both sides of this argument: that organic and conventional produce are nutritionally identical, and that homegrown vegetables blow store-bought out of the water. Which one is true? In this episode, I dig through the peer-reviewed research on three separate questions: whether organic farming produces more nutritious food, whether soil health itself changes the nutrient content of what we eat, and what happens to those nutrients in the days between harvest and the moment food lands on your plate. I'm treating this as a real meta-analysis, pulling together findings from major systematic reviews, long-term field trials, and postharvest storage studies, and following the data wherever it leads. The answer is more interesting, and more useful for your own garden, than either side of the argument usually admits. By the end, you'll know exactly which parts of the nutrient-density conversation hold up under scrutiny and which parts are oversimplified, plus what it means for the food coming out of your own backyard. „Brokkoli ist nicht einfach nur gesund. Er enthält einen der spannendsten Pflanzenstoffe der modernen Ernährungsforschung.“ Kaum ein Gemüse hat einen besseren Ruf als Brokkoli. Doch was macht ihn eigentlich so gesund? Vitamin C gets treated like a one-note “immune vitamin,” but the real story is bigger and far more relevant to healthy aging. We dig into what ascorbic acid actually does in the body, from collagen production and blood vessel support to antioxidant protection that matters for high-demand tissues like the brain and the eyes. If you care about preserving vision, protecting your lens, and supporting long-term cognitive health, this conversation reframes vitamin C as a daily essential, not a seasonal add-on.We also walk through compelling research in older adults showing an association between lower plasma vitamin C levels and lower gray matter volume plus weaker connectivity in key brain networks tied to memory, attention, and self-reflection. That's not proof of cause and effect, but it's a strong signal that vitamin C status may be a useful biomarker for healthier brain aging. We keep it grounded by zooming out to the full nutrition and lifestyle picture, including omega-3 fatty acids, B vitamins, magnesium, vitamin E, carotenoids, exercise, sleep, blood sugar control, blood pressure control, and cognitive engagement. On the vision side, we explain why the eye is so vulnerable to oxidative stress from light exposure, high oxygen use, inflammation, and time. Vitamin C concentrates in the aqueous humor and lens, helping defend against protein damage linked with cataracts, and it supports collagen that helps maintain the structure of the cornea, vitreous, retina, and ocular blood vessels. We also cover how vitamin C fits into the AREDS nutrient formula for age-related macular degeneration progression and why glaucoma conversations often include oxidative stress and vascular support. You'll leave with a clear list of vitamin C-rich foods, practical timing tips for a water-soluble vitamin, and a realistic view of where supplements may fit. Subscribe, share this with a friend who cares about eye health, and leave a review with your biggest question about vitamins for brain and vision aging. For more information, visit naturaleyecare.com and drgrossman2020.com Our email address is info@naturaleeycare.com

Was ist eigentlich aus Project No Time geworden? There are two ways to provide vitamins, minerals, and amino acids to your horse: through factories or nature. In this episode, I discuss how horses obtain these nutrients naturally and where natural sources fall short. I also explore the production of these nutrients in laboratories and factories. I spend some time looking at where using man-made materials is required due to the environments in which horses live. For example, horses grazing large fields of fresh green grass undoubtedly have different needs than those raised in a dry lot. You will be surprised how adaptive horses can be up to a point. What may be more surprising is how few companies make the ingredients we discuss. Of concern are the many hands in the supply chain, in the production of the final product, and how often they sell the same ingredient under different brand names. 0:01 - Why horses may need supplements. 01:49 - Water: ground versus distilled. 02:17 - Minerals: macro and micro. Common deficiencies. Chelation. Why horses rarely get mineral deficiencies. Thumps (Synchronous Diaphragmatic Flutter), Electrolytes, Rickets, Magnesium deficiency and its associated behavior changes. 09:02 - Protein and amino acid deficiency: Natural versus synthetic amino acids, Signs of an amino acid deficiency, Genetic modification of microorganisms. 13:29 - About 80% of all amino acids and vitamins are made in China—discussion of the supply chain from raw materials to production facilities. 17:15 - The first of two problems: Man-made vitamins and amino acids are either made from chemicals or from genetically modified microorganisms, and the long supply chain from raw materials to the final product in your barn has too many points of non-verifiable steps and materials. 18:32- The second of two problems: How can the deficit or the results of supplementation be verified in the horse? 21:37 - Testing the diet that the horse is eating and comparing that to the signs of deficiencies. 23:21 - The fallacy that placing supplements in the food, other than macronutrients, will fix an underlying energy problem (mitochondria). 25:17 - The chemical in gunpowder that caused increased mitochondrial function and subsequent loss of body fat despite over-eating. It was called DNP (dinitrophenol), which acts as a mitochondrial uncoupler: It disrupts the proton gradient in cells, causing the body to "waste" energy as heat (thermogenesis) instead of storing it as ATP. This ramps up metabolic rate (sometimes by 30–50% or more), leading to rapid fat and carbohydrate breakdown and significant weight loss—even without dieting. (Wikipedia) Banned in 1938 by the FDA. 26:45 - Without the ability to test horses for a deficiency, feed companies just throw in amino acids, vitamins, and minerals to cover any possibilities without any proof they are needed. 29:30 - Vitamin C in humans and horses. 31:06 - Vitamins A, D, E, and K in horses. 33:51 - The B Vitamins. 34:35 - Summary of how and where raw materials are made, and the long supply chain to the final product sold to horse owners. Look at the horse for a deficiency. Look at the diet for deficiencies. Protein deficiency is the most common one seen, with the most problems in horses due to the lack of protein. Remove ingredients that inflame the gut. ******************************* #horses #veterinary #horseteeth #horsecare #equinedentistry Join us at The Horses Advocate Community page: https://community.thehorsesadvocate.com/yt Dentistry: https://theequinepractice.com/ Horsemanship Dentistry School: https://www.horsemanshipdentistryschool.com/c/information/ Facebook: https://www.facebook.com/TheHorsesAdvocate Instagram: https://www.instagram.com/horsesadvocate/ Geoff Tucker is a veterinarian and horseman who has worked with horses since 1973. He earned his Doctor of Veterinary Medicine from Cornell University in 1984. Over the years, Geoff went from mucking stalls as a farmhand to starting his own equine practice. This journey helped him learn how to blend medical care with good horsemanship. Geoff believes in doing what is best for the horse and also in working with the horse. While at Cornell, he started the Cornell Student Horseman's Association, which organized talks with local experts, a knowledge competition called the Intercollegiate Horse Bowl, and Foal Watch at the Equine Research Park to help with live foal deliveries. Wanting to educate horse owners even more, Geoff also launched the first "I Love New York Horse Symposium," which drew 500 people from across the northeast. Geoff also worked at the Equine Isolation Lab alongside respected colleagues, including Dr. Coggins, whose name is on the well-known test. He worked both part-time and full-time at Cornell's Equine Research Park. On graduation day in 1984, while his classmates celebrated, Geoff drove his fully stocked vet truck to his first call—a sick foal. This marked the beginning of The Finger Lakes Equine Practice, which still operates today. Geoff sold the practice in 1996, worked for a short time at another clinic near Albany, NY, and then started The Equine Practice, focusing on equine dentistry. He continues this work from his base in South Florida. Geoff worked on his first horse's teeth in 1983, when his mentor showed him how to place his hand inside a horse's mouth without medication and rasp off the offending sharp points. He was hooked from the start and made dentistry a key part of his practice. Since then, he has examined the mouths of over 84,000 horses across the United States - yes, he's been counting.

Amanda King & Hari Kuhan Integrative oncologist Dr Hari Kuhan and metabolic nutritionist Amanda King join Jackie to talk metabolic therapy for cancer, why the ketogenic diet stresses cancer cells, and what’s in their new book, Metabolic Drugs for Cancer. “Apply the brakes on a growing cancer. Anything above that obviously is a blessing and brilliant, but that's the number one.” — Dr Hari Kuhan “The ketogenic diet causes stress on cancer cells, and stressed cancer cells are weaker.” — Amanda King About Hari Kuhan Dr Hari Kuhan completed his undergraduate medical training at Imperial College London, where he also obtained a BSc in Surgery and Anaesthesia. He carried out his foundation and core medical training in Central London, with appointments at St Mary’s Hospital and St Bartholomew’s Hospital. Over time, he built substantial expertise in Medical Oncology, working at leading institutions including St Bartholomew’s, University College London, and the Royal Marsden Hospital. He then pursued a research fellowship at Barts Cancer Institute, London funded by Stand Up to Cancer and HCA Healthcare, focusing on metabolic vulnerabilities in cancer stem cells and circulating tumour cells through the use of repurposed medicines and Vitamin C. Expanding his reach into translational and clinical development, Dr Kuhan joined the Sarah Cannon Research Institute UK (Harley Street), London where he served as lead sub-investigator on multiple Phase I and II solid tumour trials, and became adept at integrating next-generation sequencing outputs into therapeutic decision-making. Motivated by both scientific innovation and patient-centred care, Dr Kuhan co-founded Lucio Health with long-time associate Raphael Swery, united by a vision to reshape cancer care for the 21st century. Together, they established a clinic that integrates precision oncology, metabolic targeting, repurposed medicines, and evidence-based integrative strategies—pioneering a personalised model that moves beyond the limitations of conventional, one-size-fits-all approaches. At Lucio Health, cutting-edge AI-driven platforms interpret complex mutational and molecular data, while functional sensitivity testing of blood and tissue samples reveals how an individual’s cancer responds to a wide range of agents in real time. These insights are then integrated with metabolic and genomic profiling to create multi-layered, personalised roadmaps for each patient—designed not only to identify the most promising treatments, but also to avoid those unlikely to help. The ambition of Lucio Health is to bridge the gap between laboratory science and lived patient experience: translating the latest advances in genomics, artificial intelligence, and metabolic oncology into practical, compassionate, and highly individualised care pathways. It is a clinic built on the belief that cancer treatment should be as unique as the patient facing it, combining clarity and scientific precision with humanity and hope. About Amanda King After earning her BSc through the Open University that combined Human Biology with Psychology and Counselling, Amanda King advanced her clinical training through the College of Naturopathic Medicine in London, qualifying as a Nutritional Therapist in 2022 and as a Naturopathic Practitioner in 2024. Most recently, she completed the Practitioner Master Course in Integrative Metabolic Oncology with the Metabolic Terrain Institute of Health under Dr Nasha Winters, further deepening her expertise in terrain-focused cancer care. Over the past decade, Amanda has honed her practice at the intersection of nutrigenomics, methylation science and epigenetics, integrating advanced lab diagnostics with personalised nutrition, therapeutic ketogenic and ancestral diets, and targeted supplementation to optimise each patient’s metabolic landscape. A certified nutrigenomics practitioner with training in Integrative and Gestalt psychotherapy, she is widely regarded for translating complex genomic and hormonal data such as DNA methylation panels and DUTCH hormone testing into pragmatic nutrition and lifestyle protocols that address both biochemical individuality and psychological wellbeing. In her integrative oncology nutrition practice, Amanda delivers bespoke protocols that weave together diet, lifestyle optimisation, mindset coaching and evidence-based complementary therapies, empowering patients to navigate cancer with clarity and agency. Committed to reshaping the dialogue around food as medicine, she collaborates with metabolic oncologists, functional laboratories and patient-advocacy groups worldwide to expand access to precision, nutrition-centred oncology care and to generate rigorous outcome data that will elevate the standard of integrative cancer support. Not all vitamins work the same. What if the difference between helping your child heal… and unintentionally holding them back… comes down to how you're using something as simple as vitamin C or D? In this episode, we're talking about two of the most commonly used nutrients in cancer care(vitamin C and vitamin D) and why dose, source, and strategy matter more than most people realize. This conversation comes from a live office hours session with Dr. Charles Pennick, where we walk through how these nutrients actually function in the body, the difference between synthetic and whole-food forms, and how to think about dosing safely, especially during active treatment. We also explore the nuances that often get missed: why vitamin C isn't just ascorbic acid, how high-dose IV vitamin C works differently than oral forms, and why pairing vitamin D with K2 is essential for proper absorption and safety. If you've ever felt confused about supplements—or wondered if you're doing "too much" or "not enough". This episode will help you approach these foundational nutrients with more clarity and confidence.   LINKS   Guest Links Website: https://www.drcharlespenick.com/about    Recommended Tools & Resources: Fullscript (Practitioner-Grade Supplements): If you're looking for high-quality, practitioner-grade supplements to support your health, Season has created a hand-curated Fullscript dispensary with the exact products she trusts and uses in practice. Ash Said It® Daily

Play Episode Listen Later Jun 23, 2026 14:58 Transcription Available

Mōcean (stylized as mōcean drinkwerx) is a disruptive, better-for-you functional beverage brand pioneering the adult clean energy drink market. Co-founded by a multi-generational father-son duo—veteran master brewmaster Tony Vieira and creative brand strategist Christian Vieira—Mōcean was engineered to challenge the high-stimulant, youth-centric marketing of conventional energy drinks. By introducing a taurine-free, immune-support formulation rooted in premium Eastern botanicals, the brand directly targets health-conscious professionals, parents, and athletes seeking sustained cognitive performance without the subsequent sugar crash or jittery fallout. The inspiration for Mōcean emerged out of a universal pain point in consumer packaged goods (CPG): the distinct lack of health-conscious energy products for mature demographics. Standing in a hospital gift shop during the late-night birth of his daughter, Christian Vieira recognized that the energy drink aisle was a neon landscape of excessive stimulants and artificial ingredients completely unaligned with adult lifestyle needs. To bridge this market gap, Christian partnered with his father, Tony Vieira. Bringing over 36 years of commercial brewing science experience from executive development roles at Anheuser-Busch, Coors, and Mark Anthony Brewing—where he spearheaded the scaling of Blue Moon and the technical quality infrastructure behind White Claw's market dominance—Tony applied precise formulation standards to revolutionize the clean energy space. While 99% of conventional energy drinks rely on standard chemical copy-pasting, Mōcean is engineered to meet the strict compliance and ingredient standards of premium natural grocers like Whole Foods Market and Sprouts. Mōcean distinguishes itself as the first functional energy drink in the United States to utilize shiso (Perilla frutescens), an ancient Eastern botanical highly regarded in Asian wellness traditions for its powerful anti-inflammatory, antioxidant, and immune-modulating properties. This herbal foundation aligns with modern consumer shifts toward holistic wellness and daily preventative health. Rather than overloading the central nervous system with empty stimulants, Mōcean operates as a hybrid wellness supplement. The ingredient deck features a strategic matrix of functional adaptogens, vitamins, and minerals, including therapeutic doses of Elderberry extract, Echinacea, Zinc, Vitamin C, and Vitamin B12. It also incorporates Magnesium Citrate combined with natural Ocean Salt to mitigate physical fatigue and support neural hydration. In a major departure from industry standards, Mōcean contains zero taurine, proactively addressing emerging consumer awareness and scientific studies scrutinizing the long-term metabolic impacts of stimulant stacking. For clean energy, the beverage delivers a calibrated 130 mg of organic green tea caffeine per serving. This moderate dosing provides jitter-free cognitive focus, allowing high-performing adults to safely consume the product within recommended daily health boundaries. Mōcean explicitly rejects artificial, candy-flavored profiles like cotton candy or birthday cake, opting instead for crisp, subtly carbonated, and naturally sweetened options. The core flavor architecture includes Mandarin, a bright, nostalgic citrus profile; White Peach, a sophisticated and smooth floral flavor tailored for mature palates; Blueberry Pom, a rich, tart fusion of dark berries designed for a refreshing midday mental reset; and Strawberry Guava, a crisp, tropical profile that delivers authentic fruit notes without excessive sweetness. Representing the evolution of the functional beverage market, Mōcean successfully captures market share at the intersection of natural energy, daily immunity supplements, and clean-label transparency, anchoring its brand value under the core tagline: a body in mōcean stays in motion.   The Truth About Cellulite (What No One Is Actually Telling You) Let's be honest — most of what you've heard about cellulite was designed to sell you something. In this episode, I'm breaking down the science, busting the biggest myths, and giving you a framework that actually makes sense for your body. What We Cover: What cellulite actually is — It's not a fat problem. It's a structural design. Women have vertically arranged connective tissue (septae) that allows fat to push up against the skin differently than it does in men. This is why 90% of women have cellulite and most men don't. Athletes have it. Thin women have it. It is not a measure of fitness or body fat percentage. Why it gets more noticeable in perimenopause — Estrogen directly influences collagen production and skin thickness. As estrogen declines, skin thins and loses elasticity — making the underlying structure more visible. This is biology, not failure. What the wellness industry gets wrong — Creams, dry brushing, and detox regimens don't change your connective tissue structure. Specific foods don't cause or cure cellulite. And yet there's a $4B+ industry built on selling you shame as a product. What actually has evidence — Collagen peptides with Vitamin C, resistance training, hydration, and perimenopause-supportive nutrition (protein, omega-3s, phytoestrogens) can support skin integrity and overall health. Honest disclaimer: cellulite reduction may be a side effect — not a guarantee. The real reframe — Your skin is doing exactly what skin does after decades of living, hormonal shifts, and gravity. The question isn't how do I get rid of it — it's what does my body actually need right now?   Let's keep the conversation going... Sawbones: A Marital Tour of Misguided Medicine

No, not the musical artist who sang the graduation song (that's Vitamin C). Vitamin K has been in the news a little bit lately because it's often given as a shot to newborns. Dr. Sydnee talks about the history of its discovery, what it is for, why it's important, and why in the world it's called Vitamin K.
