All The Beautiful Things

This is a story about love and this is a  story about war. It’s a story without a happy ending. But in in my telling and in you listening it becomes an act of remembrance, and although it can be painful, remembrance is beautiful thing.

For almost the entirety of human history, people had an intimate relationship with the night sky. It has only been recently, within the last two hundred years or so, that we have conquered the dark.  But, as we perfected the miracle of artificial light, we very quickly lost our true view of the night sky. A view that connected us to our unique place in the expansive and inspiring universe.

What happened to the front porch? When and why did this genteel aspect of neighborhood life fall out of popularity? Even the majority of people who own older homes rather spend their time in their backyards instead of on the front porch. So, let's take a trip through time to discover why the front porch is a beautiful thing.
