CMO-Ology is on a mission to challenge the status quo in marketing. We look beyond marketing fluff, seeking stories that inspire global marcomm leaders to take different action and strive for bigger results. Challenging the status quo means sparking ideas that take campaigns, products and services and testing the limits of what the marketplace expects.
Marketer-slash-cartoonist and founder of Marketoonist Tom Fishburne joins us to discuss the overlooked role of humor in marketing. We discuss the importance of empathy, the respect in vulnerability, and the power of connection in laughing at ourselves–especially during times of crisis. “Particularly when humor comes from leadership, it's disarming. If a leader is allowed to be vulnerable and self-deprecating, it creates a culture where others in the organization can do so, too.” Don't be afraid to start small–that's the best way to do it. Once you're able to practice empathy and humor within yourself, and to share that with your team and the culture of your company, it becomes natural to share it with your customers. We'd like to thank Tom once again for a great discussion.
