COMM 4970: Special Topics in Communication (Death, Dying and Communication)

In this course, we will examine death and dying from a communication perspective. From this vantage point, we can explore a wide range of topics and issues. For example, we will look at the symbols that we humans use in our attempts to signify death and dying. We will also consider various arguments and counter-arguments that people construct around such issues as the existence of an afterlife, physician-assisted suicide, and the care of the terminally ill. With communication, a far-reaching and all-encompassing area of study, we are constrained only by the limits of our imagination.
