Team Selection Process in a very Competitive Environment

Play Episode Listen Later Jun 12, 2021 20:33

In this episode I reflect on the recent team selection process we went through. We moved to North Texas a year ago, and I share some thoughts on how competitive the selection process is here and how to think about not getting selected to the team of your choice or you think is best. If you're interested in seeing some highlights of my son in action from the past season for context for our conversation here is a link to an unpublished video. I video all his matches and pull his touches out so he can watch his contributions in a few minutes, makes it easy to put together a season of highlights. https://youtu.be/gsOAYuvfqVM It is tough to know what is best, but in the end enjoying this together I think is the best support we can offer as footballing dads.

    Thoughts on Private Coaching

Play Episode Listen Later Apr 3, 2020 24:41

In this episode I talk about my son's experience with private coaching, my thoughts on whether or not it may be appropriate as well as how I decided who to choose. I help parents understand from my perspective, as a teacher myself, the most important thing is to look for someone who is a "teacher" first. Here's a video of some training clips to give you a visual of what I think is valuable private coaching. I understand there are arguments to be made that training without decision making is not training, as decision making is at the heart of the game. I agree with this, however, for me at young stages of development a focus on skill and technique is important so that when a player in in a situation they have tools to make the best decisions they can and actually execute their intent. I hope to discuss this further on the Pod. Anyhow, enjoy the video. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=eO8b7FQAM8A&t=58s Link to Global Image Sports https://www.globalimagesports.com

Here we go. Why not, I'm a soccer dad who loves learning about soccer development, there I said it, I love watching a good youth football match. The problem is from what I'm learning quality football/soccer development is few and far between and quite frankly rare, at least in my area. With all that goes on with being a soccer dad or mom, I thought I would share what I have learned because let's face it, we are a mess at times and we all can use a little help along the way. In this episode, I give just a brief introduction to what I hope to accomplish with this Pod, first, my goal is to have fun myself, to keep learning and share with you all. Send thoughts, questions or salutations to soccerfootballindad@icloud.com Cheers!
