Broadcast from the Space Camp Orbital Training Facility- the April 2009 Space podcast. During a space walk, Kelly tells us all about the microwave oven. Invented accidentally by Percy Spencer in 1946, the microwave oven would go on to revolutionize the way Americans prepared food. Though it did not work well at first and was very costly, Spencer persevered and eventually came up with the design that is still used today. So next time you pop a bag of popcorn in the microwave, remember that it was cooked by science.
