Michigan Prescribed Fire Council
This week I talked to Glenn about fire liability laws, when to let wildfires keep burning, and his work on the Kirtland's Warbler. We might have taken a brief foray into Alaskan classroom comfort and design, but it was brief.
Chris Hoving from the Michigan DNR talks to us about climate change, endangered species, and how fire helps some of Michigan's most imperiled biomes.
Josh has been working in fire for decades, and has a broad perspective on tons of the most present issues in the fire community. On this week's episode of the podcast, we dive into everything from Growing Season burning to his experience using fire in Kenya.
This podcast, distributed by the Michigan Prescribed Fire Council, is meant to educate the public on the existence and purpose of prescribed fire. Prescribed fire, or intentionally lit fires, have been used for tens of thousands of years as a way to naturally regenerate the land. Though they're cheap, effective, and safe, public perception of burning is understandably shaky. Burns seem scary, but hopefully by attempting to be transparent about how and why we burn, practitioners that use fire for good can spread an understanding regarding the benefits of prescribed fire.
