In episode one, Jayden receives Jesus as his Savior leaving Damon to explain how he lost another boy. YBR1 In episode two, Damon reports on the status of the kingdom of darkness and remarks that “those kids who listen to Fish Bytes 4 Kids are really getting the job done! They're praying for the sick and telling others about Jesus!” So the devil teams up with Damon to try to trick kids into doing anything besides spending time with God. RiH4 In episode three, Damon reports back to the devil on the progress of his peer pressure assignment. “There are some kids, the Christian kids, who don't care if anyone likes them or not, but the truth is, a lot of kids do like them! Those kids keep telling other kids about ‘You Know Who.' The thought of more kids who are set apart unto God and committed to obeying the Word of God scares me!” The devil responds, “Keep everyone away from “those kids.” They'll end up using peer pressure in the reverse and before you know it, there will be more “little Christs!” LoJ3 In episode four, the devil and Damon want kids to forget what Jesus did for them so they devise a plan to prevent kids from participating in Communion, since communion is a reminder of what Jesus provided when He died on the cross. An ice-cream truck rolls past as we hit record—an oddly perfect cue for where this conversation goes: modern life's noise versus the quiet wisdom of biology. Today, we welcome back Zaid K. Dahhaj to answer viewer questions about the sun. We explore how light, time, and place shape our minds and bodies. In standard Feelings with Strangers fashion, we braid science, lived experience, and spirit—from circadian clocks and biophotonics to the constriction of our natural processes by cities and the sanity that returns when we sync with sun and darkness. Zaid makes a clear, compassionate case for alignment over avoidance: why full-spectrum sunlight (used wisely) behaves differently than isolated UV; when sunglasses can be useful and when they short-circuit the body's own photoprotection; why most sunscreen narratives miss circadian context; and how melatonin, vitamin D, and peripheral clocks knit together repair, mood, and resilience. We even name the captivity we've normalised—what Zaid calls the zoo-mind of indoor life—and map a path back to coherence. In this episode, we cover: - Sunglasses, glare, & melanin: safety use-cases vs. circadian tradeoffs - Sunscreen & photoaging: what changes when you consider full spectrum light, not just UV in isolation - City stress & “zoo-cosis”: why indoor, blue-heavy environments fray our nervous systems - Burns, hormesis, & “progressive overload” with sunlight: building tolerance like training Vitamin D (without pills) Seasonal strategy, cold exposure, and light from within Spiritual through-line: “as above, so below”—how alignment in light/dark supports alignment in life. 2. The Science of Fire and Response Organization in Australia. This section addresses the science of what burns and the organization of fire response in Australia. The Australian landscape contains fire-adapted plants. Eucalyptus trees are highly flammable due to their oil content, burning quickly. Mountain Ash is the largest species of eucalyptus in the world. While many eucalypts regenerate after fire, Mountain Ash actually dies after a fierce blaze but releases a huge load of seed, requiring sun to regenerate. Naturally, Mountain Ash fires are notoriously fierce and occur only every two or three hundred years. Fires are caused by lightning, power lines, and arson. Although arson is frequent, the resulting fires are often less dangerous than those caused by lightning or electrical faults, as some arsonists light fires for attention. Regarding fuel, while some believe certain weeds like pittosporum might be fireproof, ultimately, everything burns under the right conditions. A well-watered pittosporum hedge, however, could protect a home from ember attack. H. G. Wells is quoted in the book, describing fire as a "gorilla" that is opportunistic with sparks flying. In terms of response, fire brigades originated with insurance companies in the late 19th century, focusing on protecting buildings in townships. Rural communities, left unprotected, established their own parallel volunteer bushfire brigades (the first being in Berrigan in 1901). Following the enormous 1939 fires in Victoria, the government began funding and organizing state bodies to support these brigades. 1885 SOUTH AUSTRALIA

Send us a textGiants chaos meets comeback energy! After another emotional week, the Giants are dealing with everything from viral beefs to injury setbacks — and some unexpected signings too. Sean Payton threw shade after the Denver game, Russell Wilson fired right back on social media, and Nabers clapped back at Tiki Barber for his comments on rookie Jaxson Dart. Meanwhile, Brian Burns cleared the air on his sideline outburst, and Daboll gave key injury updates that could shape Sunday's lineup.Giants fans — what do you think of all this drama? Do you back Nabers' defense of Dart, or do you think Tiki had a point? Drop your take below and don't forget to subscribe to join the Goofball Army for more Giants breakdowns and banter every week! The Giants' roster also saw a shakeup this week. Kicker McAtamney was released, but veteran Gano has been designated to return from IR — potentially stabilizing the special teams after weeks of inconsistency. New York also added veteran wide receiver Ray-Ray McCloud, who was cut by the Falcons following internal team issues. McCloud brings speed, return ability, and a fresh start to the Giants' depth chart. They also resigned cornerback Korie Black, a lost draft pick who's looking to prove himself after limited action with the Jets.On the injury front, Brian Daboll confirmed that Brian Burns, Jevon Holland, Paulson Adebo, and Chauncey Golston are all sidelined in practice, with their Week 8 status still up in the air. Despite the concerns, the team remains optimistic about Gano's return and the potential spark from McCloud's addition. The show also dives deep into the ongoing Russ vs. Payton feud, Burns' sideline moment, and how the Giants' coaching staff needs to protect Jaxson Dart better in key late-game situations. They are being described as possibly “the biggest ever mass demonstrations in American history.” More than 7 million people participated in No Kings protests on Saturday, October 18 across more than 2,700 events in all 50 states, Washington, D.C., and in cities around the world. In Vermont, organizers estimate that some 43,000 people participated in more than 40 events around the state. People came out to protest the Trump administration's targeting of immigrants, LGBTQ+ rights, public education, the government shutdown and more.At the Vermont State House, where some 6,500 people gathered in cool fall weather, U.S. Rep. Becca Balint, D-Vt., fired up the crowd with a call to fight back against Trump's authoritarianism. Then she talked about the hero's journey, an archetype in mythology and narrative storytelling (think Star Wars and the Hunger Games) that involves an ordinary person who faces a challenge, embarks on a journey, triumphs over adversity and returns transformed.“I know that many of you feel anxious, you feel scared, you feel overwhelmed,” Balint told the crowd. “We have to see this as part of a hero's journey that we are all on together. We must shift our thinking into believing that we, each of us, embody that hero is going to lead us to a better day. And what I know is the first step on the hero's journey is answering the call. And that is what you have done today. You are answering the call.”Asked about the deepening impact of the federal shutdown, Balint told the Vermont Conversation, “Millions of people are at risk of losing their health care, and we know that health care right now is one of the things that is making it incredibly emotionally, psychologically, economically devastating for families. We have to fight for health care, and we also have to say to this President, No, you will not bully us into submission. We're not going to sell out our people back home because we're afraid of your wrath.”Millions of Americans are receiving notices of soaring health care premiums as Congress remains deadlocked over extending Covid-era subsidies, as demanded by Democrats. Premiums will rise by 18 percent on average, according to the nonpartisan health policy group KFF.Sen. Peter Welch advised Vermonters to hang in there. “We don't know how this is going to end, but we know that the only real chance it has to end well is if we show that we are committed to democracy and we're willing to act together.”Welch said that Trump sending troops to cities led by Democrats is “just a lawless exercise. It's a prelude to him potentially sending troops in if he doesn't like the vote outcome in the next election.”I asked Paul Burns, an attorney and the longtime executive director of the Vermont Public Interest Research Group, whether he believed the legal system was up to the task of defending democratic institutions.“We're seeing a Supreme Court where decisions appear no longer based on legal principles or court precedents," he said. "The court has no compunction about turning its back on long standing principles on any sense of consistency under the law. Absent that, we have to wonder whether the law can be there for us in any way that it has been in the past. And so I am deeply concerned.”Burns said that what gives him hope is “looking over at my 14 year old son and he and other young people who bring to this an earnestness and an openness and interest in just living their lives in a free way, a belief still that we can and must have a democracy here. They are not tainted or jaded or cynical." He vowed to do "everything that I can to try to make this better.”Clara White, a 14-year old eighth grade student from Montpelier, had a distinctive voice and message among the lineup of politicians and activists. She said that “people my age, we are not just sitting around waiting. We are more connected than generations before us. We care about each other. We know how to share information, organize online and learn from people all over the world. We are creative problem solvers because we have had to be.”She cited examples of of how young people in her community “started a Green Up Day program, came together to feed families in need, and volunteered at a summer camp to help other girls feel empowered.”"I choose hope because I've seen what happens when people come together. I choose hope because giving up is not an option. I choose hope because I believe in us."
Welcome, welcome, welcome to the Distraction Pieces Podcast with Scroobius Pip!This week Pip discusses the broad topic of disfluency with journalist CHERRY BURNS!Those of you familiar with Pip's Twitch channel and the community within might well be familiar with Cherry, but if not, all is well as here is your formal introduction! Although their role is two-fold, as guest and interviewer, with Pip as the subject. Today (at time of episode publishing) is Wednesday 22nd October, which is International Stammering Awareness Day. With Pip being a person with a stammer as well as a patron of the organisation Stamma, it would be a missed opportunity to celebrate the event and that is exactly what's going down today! This is a chance for those of you who stammer, as well as those of you who do not, to listen in on a conversation covering a vast amount of points and topics within the greater world of stammering that you might not usually hear. It's a wonderful chance to gain some insight into not only what it is, but how it can come into play in day to day life, the issues that might otherwise go unseen or unheard, but also the added compensatory factors that can kick in as a result. Something that comes up in the chat is about how stammering is not the problem, it's how the world meets the stammer that is the problem, which is a really interesting swing on it all. So please, listen and enjoy, it's a really fun episode and definitely one we can all gain something from, and ultimately celebrate. Episode 336: In a time when bluegrass is surging with young talent and mainstream dreams, Danny Burns and Shelby Means offer two profiles in making the string band business work in 2025. Burns is an Irish immigrant who brought his trad training and hearty work ethic from his native County Donegal. Even before releasing North Country in 2018, he'd made a name and reputation among roots music elites, and he shows his flair for cover songs on the new Southern Sky. Shelby Means played bass for Della Mae during their breakout years and became stylishly famous working with Molly Tuttle's Golden Highway Band. When that came to an end this year, she had her debut solo album ready to go.

You're Right! A Deep Dive on the Disarming Technique Featuring Dr. Brandon Vance On today's podcast, we will be practicing the Disarming Technique and illustrate the Law of Opposites, using real examples with lots of potential for learning. We feature our good friend and esteemed colleague, Brandon Vance, MD, who is an advanced TEAM therapist. Starting on November 5, Brandon will be offering a 6-week course on a Deep Dive Five Secrets Practice Group, meeting weekly from 12 to1:30, until December 10th. This course is strongly recommended for anyone who wants to learn and master the Five Secrets of Effective Communication. To learn more, you can click here Our goals for today's podcast will be to illustrate how to disarm, with role play examples, of any number of very challenging examples. Once we have done role reversals and developed a good or excellent response to the criticism, we will try to point out two things important for teaching the Disarming Technique. The Law of Opposite: Here it is: When you humbly find the real truth in the criticism, even if it sounds exaggerated, distorted, unfair, or just plan wrong, it suddenly won't be true anymore. This is a paradox! In contrast, if you defend yourself from the criticism, which you WILL do, you will simply prove that the criticism is correct. This is also a paradox! We will illustrate some strategies for how to disarm seemingly “impossibly wrong and unfair” criticisms. We started with a classic example. Let's say a loved one angrily insists, “You never listen.” Then we focused on a challenging clinical example, a patient who insists that “You're to worst shrink I've EVER had! Where did you do your psychiatric training? At a veterinarian school?” The exercise is fairly simple in structure, but quite challenging when you try it out in an actual role play exercise with a friend or colleague. Step 1: Your colleague or friends hits you with one of the following criticisms listed below. Step 2: You respond as effectively as you can, using the Disarming Technique and the rest of the Five Secrets of Effective Communication as needed. Step 3. Your colleague gives you a letter grade along with what you did that was effective, and where you missed the boat. Step 4. Do a role reversal and repeat the above steps. Continue with this process until you get an A in your response to the criticism. I don't have a full list of strategies for agreeing with impossible criticisms, but here are two: continue editing here Don't respond to the criticism literally. Instead, try to “hear” what the other person is trying to say to you. Example: Your patient says, “This is the second week in a row that you've been late to our sessions.” Ineffective, literal response: “Yes, that's true. I've been delayed by emergency situations both today and last week.” Explanation: This is harsh and literal, and misses the point entirely. This patient is trying to tell you that they feel ignored and uncared about, and this may in fact be a central dynamic in their life. Somewhat more effective response: “Yes, I share your concern, especially since I have high regard for you and hate having to be late. I'm really worried it will come across as uncaring and irresponsible. In fact, I had unexpected emergencies with suicidal patients both days, and will certainly make up the missed time for you, and not even charge you for today's session. Still, I wouldn't be surprised if you feel hurt and even a bit angry with me, and for good reason. Can you tell me how you are feeing?” This type of response gives you the chance to turn your lemons into lemonade! When you disarm, never say, “I can see how you might feel that way!” This is just a subtle way of sending this insulting message” ‘You're wrong, and you're making a misinterpretation because you're a disturbed patient!” If a psychotic individuals makes a bizarre-sounding criticism, listen to the music behind the words and respond to that in a disarming way. For example, imagine that your hospitalized inpatient with paranoid schizophrenia says, “I know you're conspiring against me with the FBI.” What is this patient trying to tell you? They are telling you, symbolically, something like this: “During our session yesterday, you were not trustworthy. I was anxious and still am!” So, you might respond like this: “Jim, I am embarrassed to admit that I agree with you completely, and also feel bad about it. During our session yesterday, I did a lousy job of supporting you, and we just didn't connect, which was my bad. I felt like an enemy, and not your ally, so I get what you're saying. This is important because I care a great deal for you. Can you tell me what it was like for you yesterday?” With this type of kindly, disarming, and non-threatening response, most patients will open up right away. This list of errors is not comprehensive. It's just a started kit to point you, hopefully, in the right direction. You will get many of the fine points by listening to the live podcast. You might enjoy reviewing the following list of difficult / impossible criticisms you might hear from patients or friends of family members. It can be really helpful to see if you can find a way to agree with these criticisms that's genuine and effective. Burns, isn't it true that you're a total fraud and a worthless human being? You're full of shit and you know it! I followed your suggestion on what to say to my relative, even using the 5-Secrets, and now they won't speak to me. Rhonda says: Just to be clear, the following challenges from unhappy kids were not directed at me! I wish you had died instead of Mom. (We practiced this one on the live podcast.) Can you give me my inheritance now, so I don't have to see you ever again? You need to butt out of what you don't understand. All I remember from my childhood is how you weren't there for me. You should have protected me when I was a kid, but you didn't. Here are some more from patients in various setting. A patient yells out as you pass on the locked inpatient psych ward: "Doctor, you're trying to kill me!" Or as a (non-suicidal) private practice patient said: "You probably wish I was dead!" Or "You like your other patients better than me" An angry patient says: "you've ruined my life!" An unhappy patient says: I bet you faked your diploma! More personal / family examples A romantic partner says "you're gaslighting me". A friend says "you're flirting with my girlfriend - you're trying to steal her away from me!" Your wife says "you're having an affair" when you're not. Your teenage son says "I know I was an accident and you wish you never even had me." Your student catches you in the hallway and winks saying, "You like me better than the other students, right?" Thanks for listening today! Brandon, Rhonda, and David

Satan triumphantly sings "I'm Baaaaad to the Bone" until Damon admits that their great deception has been exposed and kids now know the truth about Halloween. “I hate it when kids believe the truth! I've worked so hard all these years! What about the candy? Surely those kids don't want to give up all that candy!” cried Satan. “Well,” Damon answered, “apparently, there are some parents who eat all of their kid's candy so the candy isn't working as well as it used to.“. “You who love the Lord, hate evil! He protects the lives of his godly people and rescues them from the power of the wicked.” Psalms 97:10 NLT (Matthew 6:24; Colossians 1:13-14) HOL 1 #kids, #storiesforkids, #biblelessonsforkids, #bedtimestoriesforkids, #christiankids, #halloween, #fishbytesforkids, #fishbytes4kids, #ronandcarriewebb, #roncarriewebb
More than 40 thousand people turned out in Portland alone for the No Kings protest, and people turned up en masse in scores of cities and towns throughout Oregon and Washington. They were part of an estimated 2,500 coordinated demonstrations across the country against President Trump’s use of presidential authority, extrajudicial deportations, immigration sweeps and attempts to deploy the National Guard in Democratic cities, including Portland. We’re joined by two organizers for a first hand report of what the protests were like: Isabelle Fleuraud in Burns, and Alan Unell in Vancouver.
Another week, another one-score loss for the Arizona Cardinals in a 27-23 defeat to the Green Bay Packers. Sure, Jacoby Brissett proved last week's performance wasn't a one-off, and Trey McBride set a new career mark in single-season TDs. But at the end of the day, a loss is a loss. Arizona is now the first team in NFL history to suffer three straight losses after leading by at least seven points in the fourth quarter. Arizona Sports' Cardinals reporter Tyler Drake and Burns & Gambo's Dave Burns filling in for Lauren Koval dive into the loss and what must happen in the bye week and beyond to salvage a season that feels like it's slipping away by the week. RiH4In episode three, Damon reports back to the devil on the progress of his peer pressure assignment. “There are some kids, the Christian kids, who don't care if anyone likes them or not, but the truth is, a lot of kids do like them! Those kids keep telling other kids about ‘You Know Who.' The thought of more kids who are set apart unto God and committed to obeying the Word of God scares me!” The devil responds, “Keep everyone away from “those kids.” They'll end up using peer pressure in the reverse and before you know it, there will be more “little Christs!” LoJ3In episode four, the devil and Damon want kids to forget what Jesus did for them so they devise a plan to prevent kids from participating in Communion, since communion is a reminder of what Jesus provided when He died on the cross. Grab your your old cassette tapes, and your deepest sense of injustice, because today we're getting a broader understanding of the 1993 West Memphis Murders and the three little boys who never made it home.On May 5th, 1993, three second graders- Stevie Branch, Michael Moore, and Christopher Byers left their homes in West Memphis, Arkansas for an ordinary bike ride. They were eight years old. They never came back. What happened that night would become one of the most infamous child murder cases in American history. In 1994, three teenagers- Damien Echols, Jason Baldwin, and Jessie Misskelley would be convicted of those murders, in a trial driven by satanic panic, coerced confessions, and a complete collapse of justice. In 1996, HBO aired Paradise Lost and the world saw what had happened in that courtroom. Over the next twenty years, the West Memphis Three would fight for their freedom from behind bars. They'd get it eventually- kind of. But this case? It's not over. There's new evidence. There's new DNA. There's a chance to finally do what Arkansas never did: find out the truth. In part one of this series, we're not starting with suspects. We're starting with Stevie, Michael, and Chris-who they were, what they loved, and what was taken from them.Because before this became a media circus, before it became a cause, it was a tragedy.(originally released in May of 2023, full sources available in show notes)Sources:Jenkins, P (1992).
