However, from a young age art provided enjoyment and solace. It also provided the realization of what his future would hold. Well versed in a wide range of mediums, Burns honed in on ink and watercolor. Recorded live at the ASU GSV Summit in San Diego, this episode of The Disagreement Podcast tackles the pressing question: Is college still worth it? Host Alex Grodd moderates a dynamic debate between higher education experts Dr. Bridget Burns, CEO of the University Innovation Alliance, and Ryan Craig, Managing Director at Achieve Partners and author of Apprentice Nation. Together, they unpack whether the traditional college model delivers economic and societal value in today's economy, or if shorter, skills-based alternatives like apprenticeships offer a better path. The discussion dives into ROI, workforce readiness, and the need for institutional reform, with Burns defending college's broader societal benefits and Craig advocating for "earn and learn" pathways to address employability gaps. With sharp insights, personal anecdotes, and a candid exchange of ideas, this episode challenges assumptions about higher education's role in a rapidly changing world. From the alarming statistic that only a quarter of college matriculants achieve their desired job outcomes to the call for integrating work-based learning into curricula, Burns and Craig offer compelling perspectives. A lively “steel man” exercise caps the debate, showcasing their ability to articulate each other's arguments. This episode is a must-listen for parents, students, and educators grappling with the future of post-secondary education.Key Takeaways:College's economic ROI is under scrutiny, with nearly half of students not completing degrees and over half of graduates underemployed.Societal benefits of college, like critical thinking and civic engagement, remain vital but must be balanced with better employment outcomes.Apprenticeships and work-based learning offer viable alternatives, though they may limit long-term career flexibility.Higher education needs reform to align curricula with workforce demands, especially in the AI-driven economy. The debate highlights the need for diverse, adaptable educational pathways rather than a one-size-fits-all model.“College is not a monolith, and it is a very individual choice, and we have to do a far better job actually helping people be successful with it.” – Dr. Bridget BurnsLearn more about the UIA by visiting:WebsiteLinkedInTwitterYouTubeFacebookThis week's episode is sponsored by Mainstay, a student retention and engagement tool where you can increase student and staff engagement with the only platform consistently proven to boost engagement, retention, and wellbeing. What. A. Weekend. The US Open had everything. Drama, comebacks, fadeouts, bad weather, amazing shots, and on the final day at various times any one of half a dozen players were a genuine chance to win. So good.We do of course start the show by talking about the US Open and the incredible win of J.J. Spaun. Mark talks about how Spaun describes himself as a 'bad luck golfer', but he made his own luck at Oakmont. That final putt was unbelievable. We discuss the comments that his coach made to him during the rain break about 'trying too hard', and Mark compares Spaun's actions in the break to Minnesota Fats in the movie The Hustler. Nick muses about what the scores might have been had the greens been firm, and we talk about that drive on 17 from Spaun. We discuss Adam Scott, a real chance going into Sunday and unfortunately a tough final round so he didn't finish the way he'd have liked. Mark described it as 'brutal to watch'. Nick and Mark discuss Scotty's reputation as a bit serious vs the reality of their experiences with him, and Nick explains why he 'hates Adam Scott'.Nick and Mark give their view on the Sam Burns relief (or lack of) ruling on Sunday, and Mark says whilst the ruling may have been technically correct, it means the rule is wrong.Nick forgot to put his phone on mute before the pod, but it works out well as he gets a text from US Tour Pro Austin Truslow who played the US Open, so we decide to call him back live and have a chat. Austin explains what playing Oakmont was like, how he approached it, and about hitting balls with J.J. Spaun on the Monday prior. Nick asks Austin what a 5-handicapper would shoot at Oakmont. There was some bad behaviour at the Open. Namely Rory McIlroy and Wyndham Clark. We discuss. In light of Spauns stunning winning putt, the Top 5 from Nick is the 5 greatest shots ever made to win their first mens major. Has he missed one? Competition time. Let us know if there is one Nick has missed and he will choose one wolkfpacker to win a Talk Birdie Prize Pack with $250 to spend at the Golf Clearance Outlet (instore or online) and a team entry into the Golfies 2-person Ambrose event, with the major prize a 25 grand trip to Thailand. Find out details and enter here. Remember - discount code 'Birdies' gets you 40% off your entry. As you'd imagine, feedback is heavily on the US Open today, but Dan gives Mark a whack for fighting with wolfpackers on social media. Mark defends himself saying that some people deserve to be whacked and he is happy to do it. PING globals from Nick, obviously Oakmont, but plenty of other great performances going on including an amazing result from a 15 year old women's amateur beating the pros ! And on Saturday Adam Scott showed some exceptional bunker play, and Marks masterclass today is on Scotty's bunker shots. We're live from Titleist and FootJoy HQ thanks to our great partners:Titleist, the #1 ball in golf;FootJoy, the #1 shoe and glove in golf;PING will help you play your best. In this episode, we go deep into the hidden idol that many ambitious people don't realize they have: the belief that you are the solution. That it's all on your shoulders. Within the Trump administration, Richard Grenell is a jack of all trades. When he's not acting in a diplomatic capacity as special presidential envoy, he's also running one of DC's most esteemed arts institutions, the Kennedy Center. “Everyone should be welcome. No one should be booed. No one should be banned,” Grenell tells Politico's Dasha Burns in a wide-ranging interview in the Kennedy Center's Grand Foyer. Grenell explains why he thinks “the intolerance is coming from the left,” and why “the gay community has to police itself” at Pride parades. Grenell also sheds light on the Trump administration's talks with Russia, immigration enforcement, his potential run for California Governor, and his friendship with First Lady Melania Trump. Grenell also responds to reports that ticket sales and subscriptions have dropped at the Kennedy Center. Grenell calls those reports “wrong.” Read the statements from the Kennedy Center's CFO here and its SVP of Marketing here. Plus, senior political reporter Melanie Mason joins Burns to talk about the immigration protests in Los Angeles and how California Governor Gavin Newsom is leading the fight against President Trump's military intervention. After transitioning from a sales career to online business in 2008, Justin has sold digital products to over 30,000 customers worldwide. He helps entrepreneurs create “digital real estate” by building scalable, location-independent businesses that generate income through education and online communities. Make sure to download our free guide, 7 Questions Every Passive Investor Should Ask, here. Key Takeaways Justin's success was built on sales mastery, perseverance, and seizing digital opportunities before they were mainstream. Digital products offer an opportunity to create income through memberships, courses, and online summits without geographical limits. Most people delay launching products while waiting for perfection — pre-launch validation is the key. Success comes from solving real problems, not from chasing money or hype. Meditation, affirmations, and mindset reprogramming play a crucial role in his long-term growth. Topics From Sales Hustler to Digital Entrepreneur Justin started in sales at Best Buy, discovered his skillset, and later became the top salesperson at a major cell phone company. Fired from his job unexpectedly — but that opened the door to his digital business journey. A chance meeting led him to the world of digital products in 2008, before online courses became mainstream. The Power of Digital Real Estate In 2008, Justin learned people were selling digital products globally, even as most people were unaware of this growing market. Attended one of his first webinars and saw $30,000 made in an hour, which shifted his entire paradigm. Realized that failure and setbacks created momentum that allowed him to thrive in the digital space. Launching Products by Pre-Selling Teaches entrepreneurs to launch products before creating them—using simple landing pages, ads, and early buyers to validate ideas. Encourages creators to focus on the buyer's “DNA pattern”—if a few strangers buy, thousands more likely will too. Uses online summits with guest speakers as a powerful lead generation strategy for memberships and coaching programs. Shifting Mindset Through Reprogramming Early limiting beliefs around money and success were replaced with custom affirmations and daily repetition. Recorded himself reading affirmations and replayed them daily during walks to rewire his subconscious. Attributes much of his success to inner work combined with digital skill-building. Maestro and Helping Others Build Digital Empires Through Maestro, Justin helps creators build courses, memberships, and recurring revenue streams. Simplifies the tech barriers many creators face while empowering them to monetize their expertise or curate others'.

Rahm Emanuel has had just about every job in politics under the sun: congressman, White House chief of staff, U.S. ambassador, Chicago mayor, and more. “I'm pretty pragmatic about politics and almost cold to a point in my analysis,” he tells White House bureau chief Dasha Burns. Emanuel, who is widely believed to be considering a run for President in 2028, tells Burns that Democrats should “stop talking about bathrooms and locker rooms and start talking about the classroom.” As the first Jewish mayor of Chicago, he also talks about the recent anti-Semitic attacks and whether America is ready for a Jewish president. Plus, Burns is joined by Politico Magazine editor Elizabeth Ralph to talk about the magazine's recent Q&A with Miles Taylor in the wake of Trump's executive order targeting him, and the rise of jawline surgery among DC's male population.
