In the third part of the story, Jack is forced to either accept the that Victoria is his grand-daughter, and the fact, therefore, that he had -- and possibly still does have -- a daughter in the world, or to choose to deny all of this, take a pill, get drunk, and forget the whole thing ever happened has he returns to counting down the days until the apocalypse.
