I'm pretty passionate about the subject of camera gear, but not in the way some of my colleagues are. Having just purchased a new camera not too long ago, I was forced to shop around. During my search for the "perfect" camera, I was reminded of why I don't already have the newest and best, why I never have, and why I'm ok with that. It's a matter of knowing what your values are, and never forgetting what brought you to the dance. Today so many would-be artists get so caught up in the technology of the craft that they forget to make things that people want to see at all. The lesson I'm passing on to a younger me in this episode is simply that, as Kanye West put it (roughly): "If your grandma was to surprise you with a cake on your birthday, would you question the batter?".
