Form & Color is a visual and performing arts podcast with an emphasis on the voices transforming the modern art world that have been suppressed--and still are--throughout art/performance history. This is a podcast that will focus exclusively on women, LGBTQ+ identifying people, and/or people of color in the arts and the fantastical ways they have contributed to our communities.
In this episode of Form & Color, we meet Barnard class of 2013 alumna Weyu Hodge, who discusses her creative process as a visual and performing artist, her focus on portraying the multi-faceted qualities of black individuals, and the use of art as a form of social action. You can discover more of Weyu's work here: Weyu's Blog Now more than ever, we need to uplift black voices. In light of Jacob Blake's recent shooting, I will link below places to donate and people to write to in order to enact change (all information is coming from Siobhan Neela-Stock's "How to demand justice for Jacob Blake and support protestors in Kenosha" but is being separated here for convenience): Blake's Family GoFundMe (for medical expenses and counseling for his family) If you can't protest, help protestors at risk via the Milwaukee Freedom Fund (helps arrested protestors with bail and helps them get in touch with attorneys) Sign Color of Change's Petition calling for the officer that shot Jacob Blake to be held accountable Call or email local Kenosha officials and say something along the lines of: "Hi, my name is [first and last name] and I am calling to demand justice for Jacob Blake who was shot multiple times on Sunday, Aug. 23. I demand that [what you think should happen]. Thank you for your time" Kenosha City Attorney: 262-653-4170; Email: webcityattorney@kenosha.org or City Attorney Edward Antaramian at eantaramian@kenosha.org. Kenosha Mayor and City Administration: 262-653-4000; Email: mayor@kenosha.org or info@kenosha.org Kenosha Police Non Emergency Line: 262-656-1234 Wisconsin Department of Justice: 608-266-1221; Email form.
In this episode of Form & Color, we meet young artist Xixi Wang, who discusses becoming an artist through social media, the exclusivity of the gallery world, and her artistic fascination with... hands? You can discover more of Xixi's art here: Xixi Wang's blog or here: Xixi Wang's instagram
