BEAUTY (SURNAME WITHHELD)- She was raped and raped and raped again, but then... (Full) | 19 March, 2018 This conversation thoroughly humbled me. It made me realize how deeply priviledged I am – as a man, as a person born to parents who took their jobs seriously, and as a person who has not faced traum of any kind. Beauty (not her real name) was raped by her father at 13, rejected by her mother at the same time, and then successively abused by a range of neighbours and strangers over a five-year period. She was a stripper before she was 18, and had to watch her child killed by the woman who held her hostage. Yet, Beauty is one of the most joyful people I ever met. Her heart is open, her spirit is un-polluted, and she has no hate for anyone. How is that even possible?

“I was abused. They told me to get over it.” | 26 February. 2018 Ijeoma (Surname withheld) runs the online platform, ShareAnonymous, where she began by sharing her personal story of sexual and emotional abuse, and then she began to crowdsource stories from other survivors – a safe space for them to reclaim their voice, and their power. This podcast was particularly heartbreaking because of the matter-of-fact way Ijeoma speaks about harrowing occurrences, and the incredible absence of help that still defines the experience. This is, for her – and for so many others – an ongoing journey.
