It's hard to gain perspective and see beauty in the middle of the mess. But that, my friend, is where beauty is built—one moment at a time.  We want things tidy. We want order. We want harmony. Although they are possible to achieve, the journey is where true beauty is discovered while we traverse each day.  There is value in the mess, and God uses it to build family bonds that last a lifetime.  Remember, Motherhood is the ministry of showing up. God is looking for your willingness and obedience, not your perfection.  "Beautiful things are rarely tidy. They are built over time. Sown in mess, grown with grit, and harvested in faith." Are modern churches too ugly to be holy? In this video, we respond to Redeemed Zoomer's critique of modern church architecture and the loss of beauty in today's worship spaces. While many Christians long for the awe-inspiring beauty of cathedrals and historic sanctuaries, we unpack the deeper question: Does a church need to be beautiful to be holy?We react to Redeemed Zoomer's arguments and explore the theology of beauty, why aesthetics matter, and where they fall short when separated from Christ-centered truth. Can a warehouse church still be sacred ground? Does God care more about stained glass or surrendered hearts? This video speaks to new Christians, skeptical seekers, and anyone wrestling with modern vs traditional Christianity. If you're curious about why churches look so different today and whether that's a problem, this conversation is for you. We aim to build up faith, encourage thought-provoking discussion, and point to Jesus as the ultimate source of beauty and transformation.Enjoy!Got any questions or topics you'd like to hear about? If you're a creative person, going abroad, exploring the world, living in new surroundings, seeing new things can add a new dimension to your work. It can inspire you to see your practice in a new light. The influences you gather over time, especially through travel, can only enrich what you create. On this episode of The Unfinished Print, a mokuhanga podcast, I speak with printmaker Kay Watanabe. Kay has spent many years splitting her time between Australia and Japan, and in doing so, she's developed her mokuhanga and other print work across two distinct cultural landscapes. We discuss what it means to create in those two different spaces under different circumstances and how Kay navigates this duality, we also discuss her love of washi, the way she develops her prints, and how mokuhanga fits into her broader artistic process. Kay Watanabe - website Instagram Gallery Camellia - is an art gallery in the historic Okuno Building in Ginza, Tokyo, Japan.  Munakata Shikō (志功棟方) - (1903-1975) arguably one of the most famous modern printmakers; Shikō is renowned for his prints of women, animals, the supernatural and Buddhist deities. He made his prints with an esoteric fervour where his philosophies about mokuhanga were just as interesting as his print work.  Helen Frankenthaler (1928–2011) was a prominent American abstract expressionist painter known for her role in the Color Field painting movement. Her innovative technique involved staining unprimed canvas with thinned oil paint, creating a distinctive luminous effect. "Mountains and Sea" (1952) is a notable example of her influential work. Frankenthaler's contributions have left a lasting impact on postwar American art. Frankenthaler began to make woodcut prints in 1973 and was influenced by Utagawa Hiroshige (1797–1858).  More info about her prints can be found at  the Frankenthaler Foundation, here. Yoshida Hiroshi (1876-1950) - a watercolorist, oil painter, and woodblock printmaker. Is associated with the resurgence of the woodblock print in Japan, and in the West. It was his early relationship with Watanabe Shōzaburō, having his first seven prints printed by the Shōzaburō atelier. This experience made Hiroshi believe that he could hire his own carvers and printers and produce woodblock prints, which he did in 1925.  Gary Shinfield - is a draighstman, painter and printmaker based in Australia.  Seraphina Martin - is a printmaker based in Australia. More info can be found here, at Sydney Printmakers.  Terry McKenna  is a mokuhanga printmaker and teacher residing in Karuizawa, Japan. He received guidance in the art form from Richard Steiner, a prominent mokuhanga printmaker based in Kyoto. Terry established the Karuizawa Mokuhanga School, a renowned residency dedicated to mokuhanga education, located in Karuizawa, Japan.  Further details about Terry and his school can be found, here. Additionally, you can listen to Terry's interview with The Unfinished Print: A Mokuhanga Podcast, here and Richard Steiner's interview here.  mokulito - a type of lithography which incorporated woodblock. Artist Danielle Creenaune uses mokulito in her work. She has a fine detailed explanation on its uses, here.   International Mokuhanga Conference - is a bi-yearly conference dedicated to mokuhanga which started in 2011 by the International Mokuhanga Association. Each conference is themed. The latest conference was in 2021, delayed a year because of the pandemic. More information can be found, here. monotype print - is a unique print created from an image painted or drawn on a smooth surface, such as glass or metal, and then transferred to paper. Unlike most printmaking methods, where multiple copies of the same image can be produced, a monotype typically has a single, one-of-a-kind image. It's called a "mono" type because it is not part of an edition like traditional prints (e.g., lithographs, etchings), where you can make multiple copies.  © Popular Wheat Productions logo designed and produced by Douglas Batchelor and André Zadorozny  Disclaimer: Please do not reproduce or use anything from this podcast without shooting me an email and getting my express written or verbal consent. This week on Beauty is a Bitch, we're diving into one of my favorite topics: how to age stronger, smarter and on our own terms. My guest today, Dr. Vonda Wright, is an orthopedic surgeon and internationally recognized expert on active aging and mobility. She's spent 25 years helping everyone from elite athletes to professional dancers stay strong, injury-free and performing at their best—and now she's sharing her expertise with the rest of us. Her new book, UNBREAKABLE: Go Strong. Live Long. Age with Power (coming out August, 26, 2025) is a powerful guide to building what she calls “shields” against the timebombs of aging—so we can extend not just our lifespan, but our health span. In this episode, we talk about why strength training is essential—especially in midlife—what push-ups and jumping can tell us about our longevity, and why it's never too late to get stronger and feel better in your body. We also bust some of the biggest myths about women and aging—and Dr. Wright shares what she hopes every woman takes away from her book. If you're ready to shift how you think about aging—and take back your power—this one's for you. Let's get into it. Show Notes: Pre-Order: UNBREAKABLE: Go Strong. Live Long. In this message, Nic teaches from Exodus 35–36, exploring how God's presence, purpose, and beauty intersect with everyday work and community life. As Israel begins constructing the tabernacle, the emphasis shifts from detailed instructions to willing participation, showing that sacred work must be done in God's way and rhythm—beginning with rest and Sabbath. The Spirit empowers not just priests, but artisans like Bezalel, illustrating that all vocations—whether creative, manual, or managerial—can reflect God's beauty and serve His kingdom. Every skill, resource, and act of obedience becomes part of a larger invitation to build God's dwelling together. The message calls listeners to reimagine their vocation as a Spirit-filled expression of worship, participate in the shared mission of the Church, and pursue God's presence as the guiding force behind everything they do.

Revisiting Ecclesiology: House Churches and the DNA of True Biblical Communities In this insightful episode, Jason Shepherd, founder of Church Project, shares his journey of starting a church 15 years ago with a vision of creating authentic biblical communities. Without a designated church name, the project focuses on rediscovering Christ's original intent for the church. Shepherd discusses the key elements of ecclesiological DNA (EDNA), emphasizing distributed pastoral leadership, decentralized structures, and diverse discipleship communities. He explores the historical and biblical foundation of house churches, citing scripture to argue for their continued relevance. Shepherd also provides practical insights into the formation, growth, and management of house churches, and how they engage with benevolent activities and student ministries. Everyone Says “Just Trust the Process”—But THIS Is What That Really MeansThere is a sensation that everything is unfolding simultaneously — because it is, and yet it isn't.There's a butterfly effect occurring between all dimensions and timelines.I caution that the EGO of being the constant "Guardian at the Gate" getting self worth by being the "SHOUTER from the roof top" can actually make you stuck......dense and less able to sense the next phase occurring. This time feels like we are teetering on the edge of collapse, like a fragile house of cards ready to unravel at a moment's notice — and yet, somehow, it remains standing. This tension exists because two timelines are pulling apart, two streams of consciousness diverging in ways we've only just begun to feel.Up until now, many of us have been balancing precariously between these timelines, trying to remain grounded in the ascending timeline — a space of higher consciousness —while still holding enough presence in the denser, lower timeline to relate to those around us.This is NOT about hierarchy, its about awareness.BUT.....this balancing act is exhausting. It asks you to straddle worlds that are drifting further apart, making the stretch feel impossible. You cannot live in both forever. One timeline is moving toward revelation: disclosure about what has long been hidden — extraterrestrials among us, political corruption, the unraveling of monetary systems. These truths promise liberation, but liberation of the mind is a heavy burden. The other timeline is dense with confusion, denial, and a refusal to acknowledge what is on the horizon. This duality creates a turbulent inner landscape — moments of bliss followed by moments of unraveling. It is no coincidence. You have been surfing two currents of reality, but soon the split will demand a choice. Each timeline is moving toward a bottleneck — a narrowing point where commitment becomes unavoidable. For those deeply rooted in density, this bottleneck asks: Are you certain this is your path?To commit to this path means embracing your identity as someone grounded in a denser reality. It is not a failure, but a conscious decision to walk a slower, more grounded and see the BEAUTY of bridging the ancient and the future.Provide a caption (optional)Relinquishment is inevitable here — a letting go of the possibility to ascend into higher consciousness.Yet, even then, the door is not closed forever. Opportunities to shift will arise but will become progressively harder to grasp. The bottleneck refines your frequency, crystallizing you more deeply into your chosen reality. For those moving into higher consciousness, the bottleneck asks a similar question: Are you sure you want to devote yourself to this elevation? This path asks for the courage to let go of illusions, of ego, of identities that no longer serve you.It asks for trust — trust not in external validation, but in the infinite, eternal nature of love and in your own inner guidance. This journey inward is both terrifying and liberating. To walk through this bottleneck is to become the center of your own light — to hold your power without surrendering it to the chaos around you.The higher timeline calls with visible signs — energies of allowing, acceptance, and surrender. It invites you to trust life itself, not as a blind submission, but as an alignment with an order far greater than what the mind can comprehend.Beyond this bottleneck lies a new realm of consciousness — a crystalline clarity and expansive freedom where choice is restored, and limitations dissolve. There is no permanent limbo between these timelines. The in-between is a brief moment of transition, a sacred space for lightworkers to anchor and guide others through. On the other side, the ancient light codes of Lemuria await. These codes — embedded deep in the fabric of our consciousness by ancestors who remember the true nature of existence — are a beacon calling us into higher densities.Your ancestors knew this moment would come — the moment of pressure, of revelation, of choice. They left a support system woven into the very Earth, a lighthouse guiding us through the constriction of timelines.Disclosure is not the salvation we seek. It is a milestone, but not the destination.True liberation arises when you stand as the center of your own world — when external events no longer dictate your peace or your power. Each of us is invited now to awaken to this truth. You are not alone in this.We are flowing through this bottleneck together, called to a deeper remembrance of who we truly are.You may wonder which timeline you are on, or if you might get stuck. There is a kind of willful ignorance involved in choosing the dense path — a knowing yet denial that lets one continue unconscious. But the invitation now is to embrace the unknown — to surrender control and dance with life's unfolding. This new world is open to you.Step into it.The support is here.Allow yourself to feel the light codes, to trust the process, and to know with certainty that you are enough exactly as you are.Seven Insights to Guide You Through the Timeline Bottleneck* When two realities pull apart, the tension you feel is not confusion — it is the universe asking you to choose where your soul will stand.* Surfing two timelines is a temporary grace; eventually, the split requires commitment and clarity of intention.* The bottleneck is not a punishment but a doorway — it refines your essence and crystallizes your truth.* True ascension is not about external proof or disclosure; it is about becoming the unwavering center of your own light.* Fear of loss — of loved ones, identity, comfort — is natural, but love itself is infinite and transcends all timelines.* The ancient light codes embedded in the Earth and your DNA are waiting to awaken you to a higher reality.* To move forward, surrender control, trust the process of life, and remember that you are never truly alone in this journey.Ask yourself:My dear soul...... What would it feel like to no longer depend on external validation? How might your life change if you fully embraced the unknown? What part of your identity are you ready to release in order to ascend? If you'd like to deepen your commitment to stepping out of the noise and into your deepest and highest timeline and what your higher soul has to share with you -IntroducingThe Light Between Oracle – your personal Clarity Engine. This Journey helps you cut through the noise and embrace your journey with confidence. This Journey helps you cut through the noise and embrace your journey with confidence. Here's how it reduces everyday overwhelm.* Daily Insights: Sharpen focus and align actions with your truth.* A 5-Layer Path to get clear in times of stress or a daily self inquiry for growth and expansion.NEXT STEPS: 1. Stefan Collini, FBA.Professor Emeritus of Intellectual History and English Literature, University of Cambridge. The Donald Winch Lectures in Intellectual History.University of St Andrews.11th, 12th & 13th October 2022.In the course of the nineteenth and twentieth centuries, universities expanded to include a wide range of what came to be regarded as academic ‘disciplines'. In Britain, the study of ‘English literature' was eventually to become one of the biggest and most popular of these subjects, yet it was in some ways an awkward fit: not obviously susceptible to the ‘scientific' treatment considered the hallmark of a scholarly discipline, it aroused a kind of existential commitment in many of those who taught and studied it. These lectures explore some of the ways in which these tensions worked themselves out in the last two hundred years, drawing on a wide range of sources to understand the aspirations invested in the subject, the resistance that it constantly encountered, and the distinctive forms of enquiry that came to define it. In so doing, they raise larger questions about the changing character of universities, the peculiar cultural standing of ‘literature', and the conflicting social expectations that societies have entertained towards higher education and specialized scholarship.Handout - Lecture 2: Careers1. ‘His tastes and pursuits would no doubt lead him to lecture on the Structure of the English Language and its affinities with cognate tongues, rather than upon Rhetoric or the Art of Composition, but when it was mentioned to him that the latter formed part of the duties of the chair, he made no difficulty about undertaking it.'2. ‘We think that the Professor of the English Language and Literature at our College ought, if it were possible, to unite all the qualifications which we think desirable, to be a thoroughly educated man, a man whose peculiar learning is based upon the sound scholarship which is the general training of English gentlemen. He ought to have made a systematic study of the English Language and English Literature: a systematic study of the Language, so as to be thoroughly conversant with its etymological structure, and the history of its formation through its successive stages; a systematic study of the Literature, so that his familiar knowledge of it may not be confined within the limits of one or two periods. He ought to have experience as a Lecturer, and to be able to lecture well: but he ought to be prepared not only to lecture, but to teach. We must bear in mind, and our Professor must bear in mind, that the practical end of our English Class is to teach our students to use their own language well both in speaking and writing.'3. ‘All the world is standing, every chatterer in every newspaper thinks he is good enough for English language and literature.'4. ‘The lecture list of Easter Term was considered. It was agreed that the Reader in Phonetics should be asked either to change the subject of his lecture on Ugrian Phonetics or to remove it from the list, as in the opinion of the Board the subject did not fall within the scope of the school.'5. ‘The main point, of course, was to choose a scholar and not a chatterer; now the chatterers have command of the newspapers and the scholars have not. That's all. I have no doubt that to any maker of paragraphs, Matthew, Ealdorman of babblers, seems a greater man than William of Chester'.6. ‘In those early years everyone, whatever her natural bias, read for the English School at Oxford, because that was the only course for which adequate preparation could at that time be secured.'7. ‘Well, I have no hesitation in de-classing the whole professorial squad - Bradley, Herford, Dowden, Walter Raleigh, Elton, Saintsbury'... [Saintsbury is allowed to have some strengths, though in spite of his style rather than because of it] ...For the rest: Professor Walter Raleigh is improving. Professor Elton has never fallen to the depths of sterile and pretentious banality which are the natural and customary level of the remaining three.' This is a public episode. Scientists have been trying for decades to understand these magnificent creatures, which can grow longer than a typical house. Michelle Fournet and her colleagues at the University of New Hampshire have been breaking new ground: They record the whales' daily communications in Alaska, and then send whale recordings back to the giant animals to see if and how they respond. Some of Michelle's latest findings suggest that they can identify individual whales by their sounds. Michelle tells us the moving story of how she morphed from broke actor to internationally-respected whale researcher, and how she hopes research on humpbacks' "language" can help humans protect them - and respect the natural world better.

To me, there's three key things and it's community, beauty and nature. I think if we connect with nature and if we produce beauty, that is something that we as humans I think is our biggest gift. And I'm not just talking about creating art : speaking beauty, listening to beauty, creating beauty, opening our hearts to beauty in community. Because if we don't have a sense of the other in ourselves, then we're lost, we cannot do it alone. And this has been proved forever. But I think if we have these three things, to me, as the kind of person I am, we have it all. We're connected with nature, understanding that we are nature, we are part, we are one with nature and we are interacting with other human beings. And we create beauty and we inspire by beauty. It would be a completely different world. And that to me is like the mission of the arts.My conversation with Claudia Salguero, a Colombian Canadian community engaged artist based in Ottawa, where I live on the unceded lands of the Algonquin-Anishinaabe people. Claudia is well known for her vibrant and expressive murals. They are literally all over Ottawa and explore themes of identity, culture and social justice. You'll hear the color and the energy in her voice. I asked Claudia to give an example of one of her projects. She spoke about The Wisdom Mural, which is inspired by the teachings of Ottawa based knowledge keepers. I love the way Claudia identifies three key elements of… community, beauty, nature. Show notes generated by Whisper Transcribe AIAction pointsRecognize the vital role of community, beauty, and nature in art creation and appreciation.Explore the Wisdom Mural project and its inspiration from diverse knowledge keepers.Understand how art can facilitate healing and connection, especially in times of crisis.Value the importance of listening and understanding different perspectives to foster communication.Support community-engaged art as a means of giving voice to marginalized communities.Story PreviewDiscover the story behind Ottawa's vibrant murals and the artist who uses art to connect communities and heal hearts. It's all that happens around it or before or behind the mural. We need to learn to listen, to understand why somebody think the way they think. Because it's not for free. You have reasons to be who you are and to act in the way you act.Behind the StoryClaudia Salguero shares the inspiration behind her Wisdom Mural, a project that brought together ten knowledge keepers from around the world to explore the unifying power of nature. The mural, a towering piece of public art in Ottawa, has become a symbol of connection and healing, especially poignant during the pandemic and the discovery of unmarked graves at indigenous residential schools. One moving story highlights how the mural helped a grieving man find solace after years of pain. *END NOTES FOR ALL EPISODESHey conscient listeners, I've been producing the conscient podcast as a learning and unlearning journey since May 2020 on un-ceded Anishinaabe Algonquin territory (Ottawa). From redefining mainstream standards of aging to championing diversity on magazine covers and behind the scenes, Michelle opens up about the intentional decisions that sparked global conversations. She discusses the decision to ban the term “anti-aging,” explaining that it wasn't about rejecting aesthetic treatments—it was about removing the shame attached to getting older. Michelle also breaks down the real reason the industry feels so overwhelming today: too much pressure to be innovative and not enough focus on what actually works. As she puts it, “Not everything needs to be brand new. Sometimes, people just want products that deliver.”Throughout the episode, Michelle shares her admiration for K-beauty and the simplicity of skincare philosophies that prioritize hydration, purity, and efficacy. Joanna Macy, In Memoriam — Beauty and Wisdom and Courage (and Rilke) to Sustain Us

    On Being with Krista Tippett

This rich, gorgeous conversation will fill your soul. The singular and beloved Joanna Macy died at home at the age of 96 on July 20, 2025. She has left an immense legacy of beauty and wisdom and courage to sustain us. A Buddhist teacher, ecological philosopher, and Rilke translator, she taught and embodied a wild love for the world. What follows is the second and final conversation Krista had with Joanna, together with Joanna's friend, psychologist and fellow Rilke translator Anita Barrows, in 2021. Joanna and Anita had just published a new translation of Rilke's Letters to a Young Poet. At the turn of the last tumultuous century, Rilke was prescient in realizing that the world as he'd known it was passing away. Joanna's adventurous life and vision took shape in the crucibles of the history that then unfolded. Relistening to her now is to experience a way of standing before the great, unfolding dramas of our time — ecological, political, intimate. We stand before the possibilities of what Joanna called “A Great Unraveling” or “A Great Turning” towards life-generating human society. All of this and so much more comes through in the riches of this life-giving conversation. Sign yourself and others up for The Pause to be on our mailing list for all things On Being and to receive Krista's monthly Saturday morning newsletter, including a heads-up on new episodes, special offerings, recommendations, and event invitations.Joanna Macy was the root teacher of The Work That Reconnects. Her books include Active Hope and four volumes of translated works of Rainer Maria Rilke, together with Anita Barrows: Rilke's Book of Hours: Love Poems to God;  In Praise of Mortality; and A Year with Rilke. Krista's previous "On Being” episode with her is “A Wild Love for the World.” That's also the title of a lovely book of homage to Joanna that was published in 2020. Anita Barrows's most recent poetry collection is Testimony. She is the Institute Professor of Psychology at the Wright Institute in Berkeley, California, and also maintains a private practice.
