"You Are Welcome": One Woman's Experience with Solo Travel, Food Adventures, and the Kindness of Strangers | Conversations with a Chiropractor Episode Description What actually happens when you travel the world alone—on purpose? In this warm, high-signal episode, Dr. Stephanie Wautier sits down with a dear friend, a seasoned solo traveler who's collected stories from San Francisco to Morocco, Palau, Vietnam, and Greece. You'll hear how one spontaneous weekend changed everything, why a great meal can open doors, and how culture, safety, and serendipity weave together when you give yourself permission to go. She shares her simple starter plan for first-time solo travelers, the "prop" that makes dining alone easier, and the mindset that turns awkward moments into invitations. From sharing a table with strangers who became friends to a full picnic waiting atop an Atlas Mountain summit, this conversation is a reminder that most people, most places, are better than the headlines. A dash of mystery, a sparkle of magic, and all things cozy! Elle interviews fellow cozy authors in this bookish podcast from Authors on the Air. Today on the podcast, meet Emily Krempholtz, author of the upcoming cozy fantasy romance Violet Thistlewaite is Not a Villain Anymore! Elle and Emily talk about redemption arcs, the joy of side characters, the ultimate scrapbook of stories, and more. Happy listening! Emily's Bio: Emily Krempholtz is an author, editor, book coach, ghostwriter, and storyteller. When she's not writing, Emily loves to hike, travel, ride horses, bake bread, decorate cakes, play board games, and drink more tea than is probably healthy. She reads just about as many fantasy and romance novels as she can get her hands on, and spends a lot of time camped out in her neighborhood cafes, writing. Emily lives in sunny Colorado, where you can usually find her in the mountains—either hiking (and pretending to be a character in a novel) or curled up in a hammock with a good book (and also pretending to be a character in a novel). She's on a lifelong quest to discover the magic in the world, and has a sneaking suspicion that the written word is where she'll find it. Find Emily's Website and Books Here: https://emilykrempholtz.com/ ~~~ Elle Hartford's Bio: Elle Hartford writes cozy mystery with a fairy tale twist. The award-winning first book in her Alchemical Tales series, Beauty and the Alchemist, finds amateur sleuth Red mixed up with murderous beasts and moody beauties, and a set of missing books besides! Elle has also written two spin-off series, the cozy fantasy-goes-to-the-beach Marine Magic series as well as Pomegranate Cafe Romance. For other writers and authors looking into “wide” indie publishing, Elle offers coaching as well as the Beyond Writing blog (ellehartford.substack.com) with how-tos and resources. What does it take to change an entire industry? Thirty years ago, Jomo Tariku, then an industrial design student, noticed something profound missing in his university library: contemporary African furniture designers. This observation sparked a decades-long journey of persistence and vision. I sit down with Jomo to discuss his path from sketching designs in his garage while working other jobs to having his celebrated work featured in The Metropolitan Museum of Art and the film Black Panther: Wakanda Forever. He shares how his father's incredible story as a refugee gave him the hubris to persist through a 27-year wait for recognition. In this episode, we continue our series on the Garden of Our Hearts and talk about the cultivation of beauty. Beauty has the power to transform, heal, and lift us into communion with God, but it must be cultivated with care and intention. We discuss what it means to co-create with God, slow down and savor little moments, and rediscover beauty in the people closest to us. Even when the world around us feels barren or artificial, the Lord invites us to see beauty with new eyes and let the Holy Spirit reveal His presence in unexpected ways.   Heather's One Thing - The Catechism of the Catholic Church designed by Every Sacred Sunday Heather's Other One Thing - I Am Held by Pat Barrett Sister Miriam's One Thing - The Carmelite Monks' New Monastery in Wyoming Michelle's One Thing - Word on Fire's Evangelization and Culture Journal - Issue 25 on Beauty Michelle's Other One Thing - The Story of All Stories: A Story Bible for Young Catholics by Emily Stimpson Chapman   Other Resources Mentioned:  Passion and Purpose Podcast Episode 5 with Jon Tyson and Louie Giglio Word on Fire and Ascension will publish the new English edition of the Liturgy of the Hours   Journal Questions: How am I uniquely gifted at cultivating beauty? When have you had an experience with beauty that transformed your heart? What lies and limitations do I believe about my own creativity? How does God want to play with me in the dirt this week? In what ways am I too busy for creativity and beauty? What beauty does the Lord want to show you - both within you and outside of you?   Discussion Questions: Have you come across AI art recently? How did you respond to it? In what ways have you limited your own creativity? Who or what inspires you to be more creative? How will you cultivate beauty and express creativity in your life?   Quotes to Ponder:  "Every expression of true beauty can thus be acknowledged as a path leading to an encounter with the Lord Jesus."  -Pope Francis    "We must wonder! We must create an environment of wonder! We must create a climate of wonder! This task is closest to the family. . . . Wonder is needed so that beauty might enter into human life, into society and the nation. This beauty is the foundation and the creative moment of the culture. It is impossible to create culture by administrative means. These means can only destroy it. . . . We need to marvel at everything that is found in man." (Saint Pope John Paul II)   Scripture for Lectio: "Finally, brothers and sisters, whatever is true, whatever is honorable, whatever is right, whatever is pure, whatever is lovely, whatever is commendable, if there is any excellence and if anything worthy of praise, think about these things." In today's episode we welcome Greg Wilbur, founder and president of New College Franklin, award-winning composer, and passionate advocate for the recovery of classical education's Quadrivium.Greg Wilbur shares how his lifelong love of music began in his family home where his mother taught piano lessons and his father pastored their church. His journey led him from teaching in classical schools to founding a college where the seven liberal arts—the Trivium and Quadrivium—work together to form souls through wisdom and beauty. We discuss what the Quadrivium truly is and why its recovery matters for Christians today. Wilbur explains that music isn't just emotional expression; it's a reflection of divine order. “There's a moral, ethical, formative content to the Quadrivium,” he says. “It's utilizing number, but it leads to philosophical and theological discussion.”Throughout the conversation, Wilbur explores how harmony reveals God's nature:“Harmony is how you hold things together in tension—justice and mercy, peace and order.”From the cosmos to the human heart, music helps us perceive and participate in creation's design. He connects Augustine's and Boethius's ancient insights with modern Christian life, inviting us to see harmony as “living according to the way God created the world to work.”You'll hear reflections on:Why music education forms the soul, not just the earHow classical learning shapes imagination and worshipThe difference between live and recorded music How beauty teaches us to love God and neighborWilbur encourages parents and teachers not to be intimidated: “You don't have to know all the terms. Hey friends, welcome back to the Help My Abide podcast. I can't believe it, but this is the final episode in Season 5: Back on the Field. What a season it's been. Before we jump in, I want to let you know that Season 6 is right around the corner. It's going to be called “Beauty for Ashes,” and I've already started interviewing our guests. Let me tell you: it's shaping up to be such a powerful and insightful season. I can't wait to share it with you.Today, we're closing out this season with a really special conversation. I had the joy of interviewing Meagan Sullivan. Meagan and her husband, Josh, along with their children, have been serving as missionaries in South Africa for the past seven years. Before heading out on furlough, their church had grown to around eighty members, and they have three young men currently training for ministry. The Sullivans have four biological kids, and two more who are theirs in their hearts. In this interview, Meagan opens up about life on the mission field: about faith, about endurance, and about what it looks like to trust God in the middle of heartbreak and uncertainty. Their story is one of deep grief, but also incredible hope. Some of you may have already heard about what happened earlier this year when Meagan's husband, Josh, was kidnapped in South Africa and then miraculously rescued. It's a powerful story of God's protection and presence, and I really encourage you to read the article about it. You can find the link in the show notes. It'll give you even more depth and meaning as you listen to this conversation. And, because every missionary has a favorite local dish, Meagan shared hers, it's called umnqusho, or as she laughed and told me to say instead, samp and beans.I loved this interview with Meagan. She's someone who has been acquainted with grief, yet she continues to press on learning more about herself, her weakness, and her faith in her loving Heavenly Father. Beauty School Bobbi interviews Anna Manukyan, a prominent figure in the beauty industry known for her focus on financial education for beauty professionals. Anna shares her journey from being an immigrant to becoming a successful educator and advocate for financial literacy in the beauty sector. The conversation explores the importance of understanding finances, overcoming familial expectations, and creating opportunities within the beauty industry. Anna emphasizes the need for beauty professionals to start investing early and to shift their mindset from consumers to investors, providing practical steps to begin their financial journey. In this conversation, Anna Manukyan and Beauty School Bobbi discuss the evolving landscape of financial literacy within the beauty industry. They emphasize the importance of early investment, the changing perceptions of financial success in beauty careers, and the need for better education and resources for beauty professionals. Anna shares insights on how to navigate financial challenges, the significance of starting early, and the transformative moments that can arise from financial education. The discussion highlights the optimism for future beauty professionals and the importance of creating a supportive environment for financial growth.   Takeaways Anna's immigrant background shaped her work ethic and drive. The beauty industry lacks financial education for professionals. Many beauty professionals struggle with managing their finances. Investing early is crucial for building wealth. Financial conversations are often absent in immigrant families. Creating opportunities in the beauty industry is essential. Success in beauty can come from unexpected paths. Validation from family can be a powerful motivator. The beauty industry offers diverse career paths. Establishing financial systems leads to long-term success. Your money is kind of, I'm a big fan of like sneaky investing. Start as soon as you can, the earlier the better. The mindset around money needs to change in the beauty industry. More than half of Americans are financially illiterate. $6.60 a day can lead to almost half a million dollars in 30 years. The longer you're in the beauty industry, the less money you make. Stay educated and charge accordingly as a business owner. Beauty school students have a unique opportunity to build wealth. It's never too late to start planning for your future. Financial principles don't change, regardless of your experience level.   Chapters 00:00 Introduction to Beauty and Professionalism 02:14 Anna's Journey into the Beauty Industry 05:57 The Importance of Financial Education in Beauty 10:06 Overcoming Family Expectations and Finding Your Path 12:33 Creating Opportunities in the Beauty Industry 16:14 Understanding Wealth and Financial Planning 23:28 Starting Your Financial Journey 24:56 Sneaky Investing for Financial Growth 25:30 Changing Perceptions in the Beauty Industry 26:14 The Importance of Financial Literacy 28:02 Starting Early: The Key to Financial Success 31:18 Navigating Financial Challenges in the Beauty Industry 32:22 Awareness and Opportunities in Beauty Careers 34:14 The Evolving Landscape of Beauty Education 38:57 Empowering Future Beauty Professionals 41:57 Transformative Moments in Financial Education 44:33 Resources for Financial Mastery in Beauty   www.beautyschoolbobbi.com www.beautyandstylenetwork.com   Follow Beauty and Style Network: @beautystylenet Beauty School Bobbi: @beautyschoolbobbi Anna Manukyan: @amanukyan

Send us a textIn this episode, I dive into the intersection of beauty, self-worth, and real-life wellness. As a former designer turned acupuncturist and wellness coach, I've learned that perfectionism can make both beauty and wellness fragile. For years, I chased flawless spaces, routines, and results — until I realized something deeper: beauty that can't hold your chaos isn't beauty. It's a cage.In this conversation, I unpack what that means — how design taught me about control, chaos, and self-trust, and why real wellness isn't about picture-perfect routines or golden-hour matcha moments.

Carlii Lyon has spent more than two decades helping extraordinary people shape their stories, from supermodels and global entrepreneurs to bestselling authors and spiritual leaders. As a publicist, she built reputations that captured the world’s attention, but over time her work shifted from curating others’ narratives to reclaiming her own. Her book Courage to Be – Small Steps for a Big Life is part memoir, part manifesto, exploring the quiet but profound acts of courage that redefine our lives. Through honest storytelling, Carlii invites readers to embrace visibility, imperfection and the liberation that comes with speaking our truth. This conversation is both professional and deeply personal. Carlii and I have known each other for nearly twenty years, through motherhood, reinvention and the ever-evolving landscape of womanhood. She introduced me to Dr John Demartini and Miranda Kerr when her career as a powerhouse publicist was in full swing. I met her as a junior publicist, full of promise and drive, and we have travelled together, breastfed our babies side by side, and held each other through heartbreak and triumph. In this episode we talk about authenticity, confidence, storytelling and self-discovery—the courage to evolve, to be seen and to stand fully in your truth.
