For most people, the Bible is a just a big book of rules; a list of boundaries that keep us from really having fun. In our minds God gives extensive commands for His people to follow and we view these rules as proof that God is a punishing taskmaster and a kill joy. But the Proverbs have a very different perspective on boundaries. One that seems counter-intuitive at first. What if we saw boundaries, less as a burden God wants to place on us, but more like an area of blessing God wants us to live in? God never intended for His boundaries to limit us, but to point us to the true freedom and joy only He can provide.

Often we go through seasons where it’s hard to see past all the things vying for our attention. Our workload, the new school year, sickness, strained relationships, and the list goes on and on. It’s easy to become nearsighted in the midst of it all and simply put our pursuit of God on autopilot. When we lose sight of the treasure we have in Christ, our life becomes ineffective and we fail to experience the fruit of our faith on a daily basis. Peter reminds us of the unspeakable grace of Christ for us. He urges us to set the gaze of our heart back on the wonder of our God. When we choose to set our eyes back on Him, regaining the right perspective, the evidence of His grace will begin to overflow into every area of our life.
