Romans 3:1-2 — Is there any advantage to being a Jew? The apostle Paul understands this questioning might come up after all he has said about their guilt. However, his point was to prove that the whole world was condemned by sin before God. In this sermon from Romans 3:1–2 titled “Stewards of the Mysteries,” Dr. Martyn Lloyd-Jones explains Paul's words that showed that Jews do have one advantage: they were given the divine oracles of God. They were entrusted with the living revelation of God's word and were tasked with keeping it safe and spreading the truth to others. Dr. Lloyd-Jones argues that there is no higher privilege for any human than to be spoken to directly by God. God spoke to Moses by giving him the Ten Commandments and Moses brought them to God's chosen people, the Jews. To have this kind of knowledge should lead to repentance and to seek salvation from God. In the same manner, does the Christian understand what kind of advantage it is for them to have an open Bible? They have the living Word of God in front of them and are entrusted to keep the truth and share it with others.

The Catechism has spent considerable time unpacking Holy Communion—the “sacrament of sacraments”—with us, and now she summarizes the most essential truths that we must internalize and move forward with. Fr. Mike takes this “nugget day” to tell us that God desires to feed us. He has given us his Son so that we might be filled with him and made whole again, in unity with him for all of eternity. Today's readings are Catechism paragraphs 1406-1419. This episode has been found to be in conformity with the Catechism by the Institute on the Catechism, under the Subcommittee on the Catechism, USCCB. In the quiet French village of Clairmont, a PhD student named Mark found himself staying in a charming yet eerie villa known as Maison du Clair. What began as a routine academic trip quickly spiraled into a series of unexplained and terrifying events. At night, strange footsteps echoed through the house, doors opened on their own, and a sinister presence seemed to focus solely on Mark. Even his roommates—fast asleep through every incident—remained oblivious to the mounting tension around him. Mark's final nights in the house became a battle for sanity. He was gripped by invisible forces, awakened by deafening bangs that shook the villa, and haunted by a malevolent entity seemingly angered by the sight of his Bible. With his grip on reality slipping, Mark began to wonder: Had someone—or something—left behind a dark legacy in the villa? Or had he unwittingly drawn the attention of a restless spirit? Now back home, Mark recounts his harrowing experiences and the questions that still haunt him: Why was he targeted? And what exactly followed him into the night?

But because the wicked and idolatrous nature of her parents was in her, both Jehoram and the nation of Judah would be led astray. And as he, his kingdom, and his sons passed away; his wife Athaliah plotted. Determined to stay in power, she killed all of her grandchildren so that the line of David could not stand in her way. Engage with scripture readings, heartfelt devotionals, and collective prayers that draw you into the heart of God's love. Embark on this year-long voyage through the Bible, and let each day's passage uplift and inspire you. TODAY'S EPISODE: Welcome to the Daily Radio Bible! On this episode for July 13th, 2025, Heather guides us through day 194 of our journey through the Scriptures. Together, listeners from around the world gather, not just to read words on a page, but to encounter Jesus—the source of our life—as revealed through today's readings: Isaiah chapters 15 through 18 and Hebrews chapter 10. Heather explores the prophetic messages of Isaiah, reflecting on God's justice, mercy, and the futility of relying on anything but Him. Then, in Hebrews, she unpacks the transformative power of Christ's sacrifice, emphasizing the freedom we have from guilt and shame because of what Jesus has done once and for all. Plus, Heather leads us in heartfelt prayers, encouraging us to walk this day in the liberty and joy of a conscience made clean by Christ. Whether you're new to the Bible or returning once again, you'll find hope, encouragement, and the reminder that you are deeply loved. So, settle in—let's open our hearts to God's Word together. TODAY'S DEVOTION: How is your conscience? Is it free? The author of Hebrews reminds us today that the old system—the law of Moses and its repeated sacrifices—could never provide perfect cleansing. All those offerings only served as reminders of guilt, not freedom from it. But Jesus came, saying, “Look, I have come to do your will, O God.” And by the sacrifice of his own body, once for all time, he made us holy—truly clean. The Christian life isn't meant to be a weekly ritual of regret, a constant offering of shame over our past mistakes. If going to church only stirs up a sense of guilt, we may have missed the heart of the gospel and just how good God has been to us in Christ. The blood of Jesus speaks a better word. It cleanses our conscience—not by our own efforts, not even by the depth of our repentance, but by the sufficiency of his sacrifice. God does not desire a cycle of shame and self-punishment. What he wants is for us to see that Jesus has already accomplished everything. Hebrews tells us, "Our guilty consciences have been sprinkled with Christ's blood to make us clean," and that gives us a new reality to stand upon. Repentance is how we respond to this grace, not a way to earn it. Paul writes elsewhere that he can “forget the past and press on” because Christ's blood has set him free. In the same way, we are called to live free—forgiven, cleansed, and empowered to run the race before us. Let's focus not on what lies behind, but on what God is calling us toward: a life shaped by love, joy, and the liberty Christ has won. So, are you tired of living under the weight of shame and regret? You don't have to carry that anymore. Christ's sacrifice is more than enough. Walk in the joy and freedom of a conscience fully cleansed. You are loved, you are new, and the way is open—boldly step into God's presence, motivated by love and hope, encouraging one another along the way. That's a prayer for my heart, for my family, and for you. May you know just how clean, free, and loved you are because of Jesus. May it be so. TODAY'S PRAYERS: Lord God Almighty and everlasting father you have brought us in safety to this new day preserve us with your Mighty power that we might not fall into sin or be overcome by adversity. And in all we do, direct us to the fulfilling of your purpose through Jesus Christ Our Lord amen. Oh God you have made of one blood all the peoples of the earth and sent your blessed son to preach peace to those who are far and those who are near. Grant that people everywhere may seek after you, and find you. Bring the nations into your fold, pour out your Spirit on all flesh, and hasten the coming of your kingdom through Jesus Christ our Lord, Amen. And now Lord, make me an instrument of your peace. Where there is hatred let me sow love. Where there is injury, pardon. Where there is doubt, faith. Where there is despair, hope. Where there is darkness, light. And where there is sadness, Joy. Oh Lord grant that I might not seek to be consoled as to console. To be understood as to understand, to be loved as to love. For it is in the giving that we receive, in the pardoning that we are pardoned, it is in the dying that we are born unto eternal life. Amen And now as our Lord has taught us we are bold to pray... Our Father who art in heaven, hallowed be thy name, thy kingdom come thy will be done on earth as it is in heaven, give us this day our daily bread, and forgive us our tresspasses as we forgive those who trespass against us, and lead us not unto temptation, but deliver us from evil, for thine is the Kingdom and the power and the glory forever. Amen. Loving God, we give you thanks for restoring us in your image. And nourishing us with spiritual food, now send us forth as forgiven people, healed and renewed, that we may proclaim your love to the world, and continue in the risen life of Christ. Amen. The Bible is filled with stories of God choosing specific people, nations, or paths—Abraham, Israel, Mary, Paul. But is divine election unfair? This message explores how God's choices are never about exclusion for exclusion's sake but about extending blessing to the many through the few. It will wrestle with the tension of predestination, human freedom, and the wide invitation of the gospel. Connect with Us | Text Us: (650)600-0402

The Old Testament prophet Ezekiel wrote, “These men have set up idols in their hearts.” (Ex. 14:3) I would suggest that those words written thousands of years ago could easily apply to us. Though we may not bow to idols of stone or wood, the issue of idolatry is no less real now than it was in Ezekiel's day. As we begin this series, we're going to consider some fundamental questions: What is idolatry? How do I know what my potential idols are?Why does the Bible make such a big deal about idolatry?Let's start with “what is idolatry?”An idol is anything more important to you than God, anything that absorbs your attention and affection more than God, anything you seek to give you what only God can give.An idol has such a controlling position in your heart that you can spend most of your passion and energy, your emotional and financial resources, on it without a second thought. An idol is anything so central or essential to your life that, should you lose it, your life would hardly be worth living. The question isn't IF we have an idol problem. That's a given. The question is, “Which idol is God's biggest rival in my life?” Some potential idols might be: Money SuccessAttractivenessRelationshipsChildrenPleasureCareerChurchSo, how do I know what my idol threat is? These questions might reveal it. Which of these do I find myself thinking about the most? Which one of those do you most fear losing or feel like life might not be worth living without it?Which one of these idols most gives me a sense of identity?Which of these do I look to most to make me feel secure?Which one of these do my efforts and resources most tend to revolve around?Which one of those would other people who know me well say is my most threatening idol? The Ten Commandments begin with a warning against worshiping any gods other than Yaweh. Why? Because it's the key to all other issues. You never break any of the other commands without first breaking the first one.Why does God hate idolatry so much? He hates it not simply because it robs Him of the honor and worship and adoration He deserves, but God hates it because of what it does to us.See, the counterfeit gods have not gone away. They have just changed clothes. They still promise much and fail to deliver. They still get us to sacrifice our lives to them without coming through for us. And that's why God hates them so much. They destroy His children. Text: Ezekiel 14:3; Exodus 20:1-3Originally recorded on November 14, 2010, at Fellowship Missionary Church, Fort Wayne, IN

Paul told the Philippians he wanted to know ‘the fellowship of sharing in Christ’s sufferings.' Throughout his ministry he endured terrible sufferings—so why would he desire more of it, and to revel in it? It's here that Paul declares the great and seemingly crazy yearning of Christians—one that's been horrendously misunderstood for centuries…

Recent decades have seen seismic changes to traditional gender roles, leading to deep and sometimes difficult questions about what it means to be a man today. Some argue it's provoked a ‘crisis in masculinity'. This term is debated, but there are growing rates of loneliness, poor mental health, and even suicide, in men. At the same time troubling forms of so called ‘toxic masculinity' are being promoted by some online influencers.Delyth Liddell and guests examine the issues. Is masculinity under threat or is it simply being redefined? What is masculinity anyway? And does scripture and Biblical manhood have any relevance to this discussion today? Reverend Will Rose-More is an ordained minister and is the author of ‘Boys will be Boys and other myths'. He's editing a forthcoming book on masculinities and trauma in church and theology. Charlotte Thomas is an honorary tutor at Cardiff University and is currently studying for a PhD in Theology on hypermasculinity and the Bible, particularly looking at an American Christian men's group called the ‘Promise Keepers'. Today in History: Moses broke the stone tablets in anger because of the sin of the Golden Calf. He then destroyed the idol the same day (according to tradition, Exodus 32:6–35). During the Babylonian siege in 586 BCE, the daily Temple offerings stopped because of the famine (tradition). During the Roman siege in 70 CE, the Romans broke through the walls of Jerusalem (according to tradition). The Fast of Tamuz is a shorter fast on the Jewish calendar and lasts from sunrise to sunset. It is one of four similar fast days. The fast remembers the breeching of Jerusalem's walls.
