Today, Fr. Mike points out how the boundaries of the land of Canaan in Numbers remind us that the Promised Land is not a nice idea, but a real tangible place. He also reveals that Psalm 120 begins the Psalms of Ascent, or the Psalms that people would pray as they went up to the Temple to worship. The readings are Numbers 34, Deuteronomy 33, and Psalm 120. Together, with Fr. Mike, we explore both the mystery of Christ's Transfiguration and the mystery of his messianic entrance into Jerusalem. We examine how the Transfiguration reveals that Christ's death was a voluntary act, and that he is truly the “splendor of the Father.” Fr. Mike emphasizes the incredible parallel between Christ's baptism and Transfiguration. That, on the threshold of his public life, we witness Christ's baptism, and on the threshold of the Passion, we witness the Transfiguration. Today's readings are Catechism paragraphs 554-560. This episode has been found to be in conformity with the Catechism by the Institute on the Catechism, under the Subcommittee on the Catechism, USCCB. It's Mailbag Friday! You've got questions, we've got answers. Segment 1 • Received an email from James, who asked the question last week concerning the difference in the Quran and the Old Testament, where God directs His people to kill those of other nations. He says he accepts your answer as a Christian, but how would you respond to an unbeliever asking the same question—someone who doesn't believe the God of the Bible is real? — James • I'm 42 and own a pretty successful business. My wife is in real estate, and we've been married for over 20 years with two kids. Her income is significantly higher than mine. Am I living in sin, as the head of the household, for not being the main financial supporter? — Anonymous • My name is Mike, and I'm 10 years old. I want to do magic tricks—would that be considered sorcery or lying? — Mike • As Christians, we should be angry at sin. Should we ever be angry at sinners? — Jonathan Segment 2 • My mom is grieving my siblings' resentment toward her. They were raised in a Bible-teaching home but now show little fruit. How can I best encourage her in her hurt? — Anonymous • I know God should be my source of rest, but how do I actually live that out day to day? What does it look like to rest in Him? — Hope Segment 3 • I feel constantly busy—ministry, work, relationships, planning ahead. How do I slow down, rest, and not just default to distractions like my phone? — Hope Segment 4 • I am from India. Can a Christian have health or term insurance, or does that show a lack of trust in God's sovereignty? — Athul • My boss keeps calling a work report “our bible,” and it bothers me. What's the best way to respond? — Anonymous ___ Thanks for listening! Wretched Radio would not be possible without the financial support of our Gospel Partners. There is something uniquely peaceful about the early morning. Before the noise of the day begins, there is a quiet invitation to sit with God—to listen, to speak, and to simply be in His presence. Morning reminds us that each day is a fresh start, a new opportunity to walk with Him. Psalm 5:3 captures this beautifully: “In the morning, Lord, You hear my voice; in the morning I lay my requests before You and wait expectantly.” God is not distant or distracted. He hears us. He meets us right where we are, even in the stillness of a new day. Spring mirrors this same sense of renewal. After months of cold and dormancy, life begins to reappear—buds form, colors return, and warmth slowly replaces the chill of winter. It’s a reminder that seasons of barrenness do not last forever. Just as morning brings light after darkness, spring reflects the deeper truth of new life found in Christ. Jesus declared in John 11:25 that He is the resurrection and the life. His resurrection is the ultimate picture of renewal—life overcoming death, hope rising where despair once lingered. When we welcome both a new morning and a new season like spring, we are reminded of God’s faithfulness. His mercies are new every morning. His love continues to renew and restore us, even after difficult or dry seasons in our lives. Spring invites us to open our hearts again—to notice God’s work around us and within us. It calls us to trust that just as He brings life to the earth, He is also bringing new life to our hearts. Main Takeaways Morning is a powerful time to connect with God in stillness and prayer. God hears our prayers and invites us to seek Him at the start of each day. Spring reflects God’s faithfulness and the promise of renewal. Jesus is the ultimate source of new life and hope. Every new day is an opportunity to trust God and follow His leading. Fr. Mike unpacks the signs of the kingdom of God that Christ performed while on Earth. These signs of the kingdom are a way for us to see that Jesus is not just “another prophet” but is, in fact, the Son of God. Fr. Mike reminds us that these miracles and signs can strengthen the faith, but they can also be opportunities for “offense.” We also examine the authority that Christ entrusts to St. Peter, and his unique role within the college of apostles, just like the unique role the Holy Father has within the Church today. Doug Van Dorn returns to the Blurry Con stage for his third year and delivers what he calls the most important work he's ever presented. Recorded live at Blurry Con 3, Doug walks through a detailed textual case showing how second-century rabbis systematically altered key Old Testament passages to undermine the supernatural worldview of Genesis 6, Psalm 82, Deuteronomy 32, and Psalm 110. He traces how "sons of God" became "sons of the rulers," how "gods" became "the mighty," how 15 words were removed from the Song of Moses, and how the number 70 was strategically swapped for 75 in the genealogies to sever the connection between Melchizedek and Jesus. Every change, Doug argues, was deliberate. And every change targeted the same thing: the deity of Christ.Doug connects the dots between the Septuagint, the Dead Sea Scrolls, the Masoretic text, and the Babylonian Talmud to show that the very arguments many Christians use today against the angelic view of Genesis 6 trace back to sources that were created to discredit Jesus. He unpacks Justin Martyr's confrontation with Trifo, the rabbinical curse on anyone who called them "sons of God," and the shocking language the Talmud uses about Jesus himself. This is textual criticism with teeth, and Doug doesn't hold back. If you've ever wondered why your study Bible reads the way it does on these passages, this talk will rearrange your bookshelf.Want to listen to this episode and a whole backlog of members-only episodes? A man quietly says a prayer on a flight, and it ends with police, a diversion, and a wave of panic. What should have been an ordinary moment of religious observance during Ramadan was treated like a security threat, exposing how quickly fear and bias can escalate at 30,000 feet. In this episode, we break down what actually happened, why it spiraled, and what it reveals about the double standard around public expressions of faith. Also this week: Trump leans into "bad genetics" rhetoric that sounds a lot like eugenics, Texas rolls out a "religious freedom" voucher program that somehow excludes Muslim schools, and a new legal challenge turns abortion bans into a religious freedom issue. We also look at a bizarre Bible-reading marathon featuring conservative heavyweights, and a papal critique of war that raises big questions about moral accountability. Then in the final segment, we dig into whether a progressive Christian like James Talarico might be part of the answer to Christian nationalism, or just a different version of the same problem. Following Jesus often begins with small, daily choices that require us to set aside our own desires in order to serve others. These moments can appear ordinary—helping someone in need, offering encouragement, or sacrificing our time for those we love. Yet these everyday acts reflect something deeply spiritual: the practice of “dying to self.” In 1 Corinthians 15:31, the Apostle Paul wrote that he “dies daily.” Paul understood that living for Christ requires a continual surrender of our own ambitions, preferences, and comforts. The Christian life isn’t about pursuing self-centered goals; it’s about allowing Christ’s character to shape our actions. Jesus Himself modeled this perfectly. Though He was fully God, He chose to live in humility and dependence on the Father. He spent time in prayer, sought God’s will, and dedicated His life to serving others. As Mark 10:45 reminds us, Jesus did not come to be served, but to serve. Imitating Christ means learning to follow that same pattern. It may involve sacrificing our time, choosing patience when we feel frustrated, or putting someone else’s needs ahead of our own. These choices are not always easy. Our natural instincts often push us toward comfort and self-interest. But the good news is that we are not expected to live this way through our own strength. God has given believers the Holy Spirit to guide and empower us. As we remain connected to Christ, the Spirit produces qualities like love, patience, kindness, and self-control in our lives. When we surrender our desires and follow Christ’s example, we discover something surprising: true joy often grows from a life of selfless service. What may initially feel like sacrifice becomes a pathway to deeper purpose and fulfillment. Every day presents new opportunities to reflect Christ’s love. As we choose humility, service, and obedience, we grow into people who more clearly mirror the heart of Jesus. Main Takeaways The Christian life involves daily surrender and “dying to self.” Jesus modeled humility, obedience, and service during His life on earth. Imitating Christ often happens through small acts of sacrifice and love. The Holy Spirit empowers believers to live selflessly. Serving others reflects the character and love of Christ. Today’s Bible Verse “I affirm, brethren, by the boasting in you which I have in Christ Jesus our Lord, I die daily” (1 Corinthians 15:31, NASB). Growing up in a Pentecostal church, I have witnessed people speaking in tongues many times. But what is praying in tongues, and is it for Christians today? If you've ever wondered what the Bible actually teaches about this spiritual gift, whether the ability to speak in tongues is proof of salvation, or why some churches emphasize it and others don't, this episode is for you.In this episode, we start with Acts 2 and the day of Pentecost, where the Holy Spirit empowered believers to speak in real languages they had never learned. We'll explore why this moment was so significant—it wasn't just random; it was the fulfillment of Jeremiah 31:33, when God's law was written on the hearts of His people. Then we move to 1 Corinthians 12–14, where Paul explains that tongues is just one of the spiritual gifts and that it should be used in an orderly and edifying way. It is not something every believer receives and is not a requirement for salvation.I also share perspectives from both continuationist and cessationist traditions so you can understand the broader conversation within the church. Whether you're Pentecostal, Baptist, Reformed, or somewhere in between, my hope is that this episode equips you to study Scripture for yourself and approach this topic with humility and discernment.Shop Prayer Resources⦿ Every Woman a Theologian Shop: https://phyliciamasonheimer.com/shopOur Spring Shop is live and filled with new prayer-focused resources including the Praying the Psalms Scripture Guide and Not-So-Quiet Time: Psalms Volume 1.Watch the full Verity Podcast Prayer Series:https://www.youtube.com/@veritypodcastSubscribe to Verity Podcast:https://apple.co/veritypodcastVerity Podcast is an Every Woman a Theologian company. Is the modern nation of Israel the people of God today? In this episode, Pastor George Sayour examines one of the most debated questions in Christian theology: Who is the true Israel? From a historic Reformed perspective, this teaching explores the biblical relationship between Israel and the Church and how the New Testament interprets the promises made to God’s people. Topics include:Is modern Israel the covenant people of God?What does the Bible mean by “true Israel”?How the New Testament interprets Old Testament promisesThe Reformed understanding of Israel and the ChurchIf you’re trying to understand the biblical relationship between Israel and the Church, this discussion provides a thoughtful Reformed explanation rooted in Scripture.

Fr. Mike points out why it's important that the tribes of Reuben and Gad agree to fight in Numbers 32 and also reflects on how God knows that his people will be faithless, and yet He remains faithful to them. The readings are Numbers 32, Deuteronomy 31, and Psalm 117. For the complete reading plan, visit ascensionpress.com/bibleinayear. Fr. Mike explores Jesus' mission of establishing the kingdom of God on earth, and who belongs in the kingdom of Heaven: all people. We see how Jesus identifies himself with the poor, lowly, and those who the world says are not important. If we do not welcome them, we cannot enter the kingdom. Fr. Mike challenges us to examine the fact that in order to gain entry into the kingdom, “one must give everything. Words are not enough; deeds are required.” Today's readings are Catechism paragraphs 541-546. This episode has been found to be in conformity with the Catechism by the Institute on the Catechism, under the Subcommittee on the Catechism, USCCB. From Victim to Victor: Wendi Rees on Faith, Trauma, and Unexpected Paths to HealingWhat if the tools for healing were already placed within God's creation? And what if the journey toward restoration could be both deeply spiritual and profoundly transformative? This week's Team Never Quit Podcast guest, Wendi Rees, is an author, speaker, and podcast host who brings a powerful testimony of faith, resilience, and healing. In her new book, The Christian's Guide to Psychedelics: Finding Hope and Healing Through God's Creation, Wendi explores a thoughtful and faith-centered perspective on the role certain substances—such as Ibogaine, Psilocybin, MDMA, and Ketamine—may play in addressing trauma, addiction, and depression. But at the heart of Wendi's story is not a substance—it's Jesus Christ.A survivor of childhood sexual abuse beginning at age 11, Wendi spent decades wrestling with the lasting effects of trauma, shame, and identity. Through faith, prayer, and a long journey of surrender, she discovered a powerful truth: the Bible does not define believers as victims, but as victors through Christ. In this deeply honest conversation, Wendi shares how learning to see herself through God's eyes rather than the lens of trauma became a turning point in her life. She opens up about the difficulty of trusting others after abuse, the challenge of releasing burdens to God, and the transformative power of understanding the unconditional love of the Father.Wendi explains that her work and writing are not about promoting psychedelics—but about exploring whether some of God's creations, when approached prayerfully and responsibly, might serve as tools that point people back to the ultimate source of healing: Jesus.Today, she helps individuals and groups walk through journeys of resilience, faith, and holistic wellness—encouraging people to move from pain toward restoration and from victimhood to victory. In this episode you will hear:• I grew up believing: drinking, drugs, and anything sexual was a one-way ticket to hell. (9:25) • When we moved to Texas, I was shocked to find out that not only were my parents getting divorced, but this other couple from our church was also getting divorced, and my dad was marrying her, and my mom was marrying him. So, they just swapped partners. (9:55)• Being the oldest kid, I provided the most sermon examples. (13:45)• Our corporal punishment, today would be [considered] child abuse. (14:01)• This was all going on while he was molesting me. (15:48)• I had five abusers. I did not have relationships with these other people like I did with my dad. (19:31)• I ended up in a topless bar almost over 2 years, trying to get back control over my body & my sexuality that had been stolen from me. (23:22)• When your dancing, you're not praying. (25:20)• I saw God through the eyes of my father, very scary and ready to smite me at any time. (25:51)• A lot of people don't talk about it. It's like a taboo thing. They feel the shame of it as if somehow, it's a reflection of them. (29:41)• I needed a lot of healing. I had a TBI, complex PTSD, nothing was working. (35:41)• When I decided to try Ibogaine as a last resort, it was so profoundly God's presence. He literally came and rescued me. (36:06)• God met me and gave me what I needed in that moment. (46:12)• We make it so hard as Christians to even communicate with God. (52:01)• Jesus is the only answer. Iboga is the tool that He used in my life. (57:18)• There's nothing wrong with needing help. (84:37)

In the past, Christian fundamentalism was defined by a literal reading of the Bible and conservative social values. They believed in things like a seven-day creation, the rapture, prophecies about the return of Jesus, and supporting the state of Israel. But data shows that fewer evangelicals hold these beliefs, but that doesn't mean fundamentalism is going away. Skye and Kaitlyn are joined by Mike Erre to discuss the changing definition of Christian fundamentalism in America, and why the older variety may have been better. Then Bob Goff talks about his new video project through the Holy Land called "A Journey with Jesus," and how he sustains his joy in these angry times. It's Witness Wednesday! Join Todd on campus in downtown Atlanta where he meets an interesting cast of characters, among whom is a Hare Krishna devotee who is radically inclusive in his religion… but is he right? When real people are introduced to the Jesus of the Bible, worldviews are challenged, and hearts are changed. Segment 1 • Tim (Hare Krishna) claims every religion works—including Christianity—so does truth even matter? • If God is “everything,” is He also a lamppost? The worldview starts to unravel fast. • Big question: can mutually exclusive religions all be true at the same time? Segment 2 • Tim affirms Jesus… but only as a “spiritual master”—not the only way. • Jesus' exclusive claim (“I am the way”) directly collides with Tim's mix-and-match belief system. • Are you allowed to reinterpret Jesus to fit your worldview? Segment 3 • Hannah admits she's “on the fence,” citing science, church history, and bad Christian examples. • The deeper issue surfaces: are objections really intellectual—or rooted in something else? • If a God exists who solves guilt, shame, and death—would you actually want Him? Segment 4 • Hannah claims moral goodness—then walks through lying, stealing, lust, and guilt. • The standard shifts from her view to God's law, exposing real accountability. • If we're truly guilty before God, what's the solution? ___ Thanks for listening!
