Have parent educators like myself given the impression that single parents can do without the other without consequences. For a family to be a great family the presence of both biological parents is not necessary. But the absence of either will undeniably affect their children. Three might be difficult to find new, but all should be available from your local library: Christmas Moon by Denys Cazet (Bradbury Press, 1984), Knots on a Counting Rope by Bill and John Archambault (Henry Holt, 1987), Everyone Knows What a Dragon Looks Like by Jay Williams, and The Dump Man’s Treasures by Mary Beth Owens (Down East, 2008).
