Nick Straw teaches tap dancing to elementary school students in Napaskiak, Alaska. Tap is a healthy way for the youth to express themselves and helps to build students basic developmental assets like confidence and self-esteem. AASB has provided funding for the purchase of tap shoes for Straws Tundra Taps students.

Since 2010 Alaska ICE has partnered with Juneau Alaska Music Matters (JAMM), an innovative program that engages families and builds school readiness skills such as focus, discipline, self-control, small and gross motor skills, perseverance, delayed gratification, teamwork and social emotional learning. Under the direction of 2011 Alaska State Teacher of the Year Lorrie Heagy, all 60 Kindergartners at a Juneau elementary school are learning to play the violin.
