Whats up everyone! This is Devon and I've been getting a lot of emails or students coming up to me while on campus as they all seem to have the same question. Is this commission based or I'm scared of commission. Now I understand where their coming from since I also came from a hourly pay background it can seem intimidating. However if you are not the worse one at you job then your underpaid and the reason being is that companies are only willing to pay the bare minimum people are willing to accept thats why we have minimum wage, So my question to you is why settle for less. I love to explain things through stories so back when I was working with interstate a construction company I was making $14 an hour which was good but I was still working 9-10 hours a day 5 days a week and still didnt have enough money and there wasnt anything I could do to get more. The thing though that made me start to hate hourly is that I would be working harder then everyone else and there was this group of guys in their 30's who would do nothing and just take smoke breaks every 30 mins while I was carry cement bags or tearing down drywall and hauling it out all by myself but at the end of the day we were getting paid the same amount of money....can you believe that!? it was so frustrating but I couldnt do anything about it or rather I had to leave and find a place where I could determine how much I make and what im worth. Now most people seem to believe that sales is a luck thing and because of that there is no security in it, this is just another miss belief in fact the opposite is more true because we are paid based on performance we are more valuable to a company then an hourly wage position. If a recession ever happen which its bound to guess who gets let go first? is it the sales person bring in new income? No its the people who get paid the bare minimum to do a task. Now this might now seem important for college students like us but remember once college is over it becomes very important. Not only that be Sales is in fact a skill and with any skill the more you do it the better you get and you get to a point where you can predict the amount of money you'll make every month or everyday. So yes what I'm talking about is commission based but this is the only way you'll get what you deserve as well as the freedom that comes with, what I mean by this is with hourly your doing just that trading your time hourly for money and you will never have enough time to get enough money to the things in life you want. Now i just want to watch the games on the weekend and hang out with my friends at events or bars but i cant do that and pay for school with an hourly job. I know it will take some time for this to sink into you head but if what im saying resonates with you then look at this link and learn more about this great opportunity, even if Alta isnt the company you decide to go with there are things in here that apply to all sales summer jobs and door to door to be specific. Whats up everyone! Devon Here. So first off I want to say Marry Christmas to all of you and for those of you who don't celebrate Christmas happy coming of the new year. As we go into 2020 i was to talk about believe, now believe is very important to me and not just spiritually I'm talking about what you think you can do, what you think you cant do as well as the miss beliefs you have about something your yourself. These are what shapes our lives because it determines the decisions we make and the actions we take. First I want to go over the types of beliefs we tend to have, now I put these into three types. First is blind belief or what people call faith, a good example of this is for you that have heard my background story I was going to be a college athlete with a semi full scholarship but then something terrible happened....I ended up having to have a brain surgery Now it it was because I had be epileptic since I was young but it was getting to the point it was killings me. I was having 12-18 sezuires a day and doctors were telling me I'll end up a human veggie or dead if it continues so I was faced with a choice, that or a life changing surgery called redacted brain surgery where they literally remove a part of your brain. Now for you that know that brain controls everything so anything that goes wrong could go wrong and I had to sign off everything and just have faith or this blind belief in my doctors that I would come out the other side healthier and happy and thankfully I did but thats a perfect example of the first type of belief. Now you dont have to have something crazy and risky like that to take a blind belief and try something but the next type of belief is belief of something because you did it or something similar to it. lets continue the back story and move to when I did door to door last year with Alta. Since I had lost my scholarship due to the surgery and lengthy hospitalization i needed a way to pay for college myself. After some soul searching and talking with my parents, professors and career advisory's I was told pretty much the same thing, Get a job while in college or be in debt and hope to pay it off after college when i get a better paying job. Both of these didnt fit well with me I didnt want to be that guy who works 3 jobs while trying to be a full time student but I also didnt want to be $100k in debt now thankfully I was told about summer sells by a family member in particular door to door sales. Now this is the only college job you can do during the summer where you make enough money to actually pay for school and might even have some left over to enjoy you personal life cause thats also important. However I had never done anything like this and when talking with one of the managers I wasnt sure, he was telling me that the avg rep last year made $22k in just 15 weeks and that sounded crazy to me but I took the job and tried it for myself and after I made $23k that summer a little more then what he said I would. Looking back I can totally see it because I did it but I can also see how the managers and seniors who did this since their freshman year made $40k, $60 or even $80k that summer because of what I did. This is the second type of Belief. The last type of belief is belief through others, now if you dont have the courage or confiding to go in blind or have never did something similar then listen to people like me on my podcast or read blogs about those who've done it. once you start see that they did, she did and he did it you start to see hey I can do it too. So what now? You saying Devon I like what your saying I want to not have to take out loans or I want to pay off my loans and even dare i say have a personal life where do I go what do I say? whats next? I'm going to start putting links in the descriptions once I get all the tech set up. --- Send in a voice message: https://anchor.fm/altareps/message
So today i Just wanted to talk about the first real concern or wall I had to overcome, and this is before i even started doing door to door. Today its all about Is this real? is it a scam? its normal to think its crazy the amount of money we earn during the summer, I mean $23k is a lot of money for most college students and I felt the same way when I first heard about the job. Obviously i found out for myself the money was real, and i'm glad I took that chance. which is why i'm telling all of you about the opportunity door to door has. Now one of the best ways i was able to describe this to someone who is interested in doing a door to door job this summer is to think of this like a big boy job people hope to get after college. we make a normal wage, its just prorated down because we only work a few months. instead of making $60k a year we all make around $20k working very hard for a full summer. I assume you expect to make when your finally done with college. the great thing about sales is you don't actually have to have a degree to be successful or earn that kind of money. When they open the door, people don't know if your a doctorate or a high school drop out and because we don't need degrees we don't have to wait to make the big bucks until after we graduate. Think about it, in any industry the sales people and executives are the ones who make the most amount of money. If im developing a skill set as valuable as sales, and working the amount of hours we are, I better be getting paid decent money. in fact we are almost underpaid when you think of it like that. its certainly a huge difference from making $12 an hour which is why its so hard for people to wrap their heads around it. --- This episode is sponsored by · Anchor: The easiest way to make a podcast. https://anchor.fm/app --- Send in a voice message: https://anchor.fm/altareps/message
Hello my names Devon Moore and this is a little story on how I have the freedom financially to live how I like even though college is taking unreasonable amounts of money from me. I have always thought I was strong and that my sense of confidence came from the struggles I was forced to endure. I had become a state champion despite the fact that 2 weeks before the big race I had a grand mal seizure and tore my hamstring in the convulsions to being one of the top athletes in track among all high schoolers in the country and did so while having epilepsy. This earned me a semi full scholarship to the University of Oregon (just had to pay for books and dorms) However, my epilepsy got to the point where I was having 12–16 seizures a day I was faced with the fact that I am not strong at all, that I was as weak and helpless as one can be. As I watched my scholarship get taken away, something that I’ve striven for more than anything else in my life. Then the muscles and body I was so proud of turn into a small weak man as I became bed ridden more and more and than that moment came where I signed the papers giving a doctor the right to cut out the part of my brain that was causing this or accept death or at best a living vegetable. It would be almost impossible for me to get back that scholarship now Its up to me to pay for college plus there still so many things I wanted to do while I’m still young hanging out with friends whenever I want, to travel and experiencing everything life has to offer but all that take money and I didn’t have it. Then I had an epiphany if I was able to make enough money during the summer I’d not only be able to pay for college but Id also have some spending money to enjoy my college years as well. After about 2 weeks of researching I found that a summer doing Door to Door sales was the best option simply because it allowed me the opportunity to make 10x the amount of money in such a short time unlike the internships my professors pushed on me (I don’t know about you but I get about 15 weeks of summer before I have to start getting back into school life) I started by absorbing all the information on the top door to door companies out there for college students and I choose a company called Alta pest control. now that I had a company in mind I had a few conflicts i had to get over, the biggest one is I have no idea how to sell door to door and I still had some doubts about the whole door to door game but I decided I’d just try it for one summer and it was the changing point for me. In just 15 weeks I made myself $23,650.50 and not only that but since the way its set up I get paid twice a month so I can focus on school or rather not having to have a job during the school year but It was even better then just the money. I had earned a 3 day cruise to mexico fully paid for plus I even got to take my grandma skydiving and it was probably the most fun I had during a summer. It had such an impact that I changed my major to whatever classes I feel and I look forward to going out again this next summer, since its a sales job the better i’m at it the more ill make and I can only imagine what my bank account will look like in 2020 --- Send in a voice message: https://anchor.fm/altareps/message
