It was one of the biggest trials of the 1940's and the nation's interest centered on one defendent: the beautiful actress Madeline Webb. In 1942 Madeline Webb was accused of making a phone call luring a wealthy acquaintance, Susan Reich, to a hotel where she would be robbed and murdered by Madeline’s lover, Eli Shonbrun. Madeline was sentenced to life without parole but she always denied making the call. Eli Shonbrun, who was sentenced to death, also swore she never made this call. This was a murder by appointment, but would Madeline have set up a murder leaving her name and address with the victim's family? We have hours of audio tape of Madeline discussing the crime and we'll attempt to unravel the question at the heart of this mystery: did Madeline make the phone call? --- This episode is sponsored by · Anchor: The easiest way to make a podcast. https://anchor.fm/app Support this podcast: https://anchor.fm/cara-coslow/support
