Nial Brown has worked as an editor on a variety of programmes, including Blue Peter, Sports Personality of the Year and EastEnders. He is a specialist in high-end digital effects and he explains the techniques he used to create a spectacular end shot for EastEnders.
Filming a comedy sketch on location in a hot air balloon would be costly and impractical, and filming in an imaginary landscape is obviously impossible.
Grading is a post production tool which alters the colouration of shots. Nial Brown shows us how he used grading tools in an Andy Murray promo. He was able to colour correct for different lighting, add a dramatic sky and even paint out a helicopter.
The compositing technique in post-production can give you the best of both worlds, because two elements from entirely different shots can be combined into the same shot.
