Welcome to my Stories Out Loud podcast. It is intended for students who need a free audio version to listen to as they read.
This is a recording of “Big Boy Leaves Home” by Richard Wright and is intended for students who understand literature more deeply when they both read and listen to the story. This recording is intended for educational purposes only.
Geoff Haden of Swansea, Wales is both owner and curator of the Dylan Thomas Birthplace and Home, a private museum. Geoff Haden provides background information about Dylan Thomas and context for enjoying this short story that reveals the nature of genuine friendship between two women, Patricia and Edith, and the mutual affection between a young boy and his nursemaid. Note how the little boy makes a conscious effort to conceal an observation of Arnold that the boy perceives might be painful for heartbroken Patricia.
