This week’s edition of Make Somebody’s Christmas really is a special because Renee decided she wanted to nominate her little brother, David. He has been a single day for the last 3 years of 5 children that range from 6-13 years old. Unfortunately, their mother chose a different path in life and that means it’s a life without her children. However, it makes things hard for David considering she doesn’t choose to pay child support or even see them.David is such a hard worker who always looking for ways to make ends meet, but unfortunately doesn’t qualify for public assistance. His house is in the process of being foreclosed on so he is having to move at the end of the month. He has tried every possible option to try and keep the house including loan modification and bankruptcy and he has sadly hit a wall every time.Even though times are tough, he still manages to provide for the children the best he can while still remaining faithful and active within their church. That’s why we wanted to do our best to Make his Christmas!
It’s finally that time of the year and specifically when it comes to helping people during the Christmas time, it’s always a special moment. Kristy wrote us to tell us about her friend Shirley who is in a point of desperation right now in her life. Shirley is Kristy’s classroom aide and this past year, Shirley lost her daughter, Jessica, to sickle cell anemia. Considering the constant influx of medical bills, along with missing many days of work to be with her daughter has made it impossible to come up with a first month’s deposit on an apartment or home. They’ve already paid the application free, admin free, and holding fee, totaling $750. Lately, Shirley and her other daughter Summer have been staying in a hotel room but they unfortunately could not keep up the expense of the hotel so now they are sleeping in the car despite the freezing and wet weather.Shirley and Summer are both faithful, God-fearing women who are believing for a miracle at this time and despite their circumstances, they still praise God in their suffering. That’s why we thought Shirley would be the perfect candidate for our first Make Somebody’s Christmas!
After sharing Karen’s story for Make Somebody’s Monday, a listener named Mike called in and said that he and the members of his Bible study group were listening and have chosen to get involved. They are donating a wheelchair van to Karen and her husband! Can you believe it? We can’t do everything but each one of us can do something. This group has chosen to do a huge something!
Becky recently wrote to us about her friend Karen who was really dealing with a tough situation. Her son Jonathan who is 39 years old suffered severe brain damage last June which led to convulsions and a stroke one week later when he was rushed to ETMC critical care unit. He was there for 7 weeks and considering that he had no insurance, no income or savings, after seven weeks the hospital gave him a room in the trauma unit and one week of inpatient rehab therapy. After declaring him stable, they discharged him to his home that was not set up for him, and to parents that were already exhausted physically and financially from living at the hospital. Despite some court fights, Karen and her husband Wren are managing remarkably well under the circumstances as their attitudes are exceptionally upbeat most of the time, but they desperately need help. That's why we decided to Make Karen's Monday!
