"Oh wow - that's crazy!" When we do things that aren't "normal", people don't know what to make of it. But... why is "normal"... normal? We understand how the world works. Every day we go about our lives with a certain understanding of how things are. We know what to expect. How things are typically going to go. What we can and can't do - should and shouldn't do. We know what to expect of our peers, too - all the same! Things that fall in the realm of the ordinary. So when someone does something out of the ordinary - we question them. We ridicule them. We call them (or the thing they're doing) "crazy". But why? After all - who decided what "normal" is, and thus, what "crazy" is? I challenge you to question your idea of "normal", and join me for a talk about how, exactly, to do that - in episode 90 of the podcast. For the full blog post and show notes visit the blog here. What's in this episode:  We talk about The GiddyUp Trail Running Festival at Pineland Farms, giving both a rundown of how the festival weekend works and a race recap of my running of the 50K this year We also have a talk about what’s “normal”, and what’s really “crazy” Episode Resources: Support Ben Manning in the Great Cycle Challenge! (See www.SoTHISIsFitness.com/podcast39 for extended show notes/blog) On the eve of a great battle, there is much to do. There are plans to be finalized, preparations to be made. Warriors have to gear up and mentally prepare for what they're about to do. When we're about to take on a new phase of our journey... well... we're no different. Instead of swords and shields, we're donning running shoes and a water bottle, or cross-trainers and a sweat towel. And yes, we ARE about to do battle... just in a different way. It's wholly appropriate to hunker down and view it as such in order to get your head right for what's to come. Yes, there's that mental part, too. Just as it's important for the warrior to mentally prepare for the rigors of battle, and just as he's got no choice but to envision total victory... so too must you. When we're about to take on a new phase in our fitness journey, we HAVE to believe it's going to be successful. We MUST have confidence in our ability to succeed! And we simply CANNOT doubt ourselves. It's that simple. And that's the topic of discussion today, kids - how to handle yourself on the eve of battle. However hyperbolic that might sound. What's in this episode: Interesting happenings at the gym Life is actually pretty good right now What to do when you're about to embark on a major journey including a conversation with Katrina White all about the upcoming Pineland Farms 50 Mile Ultramarathon   Connect with So THIS Is Fitness Facebook Instagram The Fitwife's Instagram!
