Celluloid is the plastic material from which motion pictures were historically made. With the omni-presence of digital capture and projection we may forget that this industry which exploded onto our culture at the beginning of the 20th Century was almost entirely based on the exposure and subsequent distribution of celluloid. The British band, The Kinks, epic song "Celluloid Heroes", captured so much of the desire to 'be Hollywood "I wish my life was anon-stop Hollywood movie show...". More importantly they draw on an earlier insight from Shakespeare - "All the world is a stage and we are but players." But the Kinks drive it even deeper when it comes to aspirations to 'make it in Hollywood.' If you don't come with understanding, there can be a very steep price to pay. One of the most important aspects of pursuing a new goal - and especially in the entertainment industry - is understanding and controlling your attitude. Self-limiting behavior is the single, greatest threat to your success. Keenan explains some of the most common hurdles.
Time- how you use your time is what determines your future. An old saying : "I can tell you what you're going to be doing in 5 years... when you tell me what you do with your spare time." Keenan explains how he replaced his 'recreations' with creations. Instead of spending endless hours entertaining himself and "recreating", he determined to spend that time creating. If you are willing to set aside distractions and use that time to invest in yourself and your future in entertainment, you will be moving towards your goals.
Commitment - "the vision thing." You will not accomplish your goals through mere wishing or hoping. You must make a commitment to your goals. When others in your life hear that you are pursuing the entertainment industry they are likely to scoff or perhaps worse, try to 'talk you out of it , for your own good.' Unless you know how to commit - without jumping off a cliff - you will face tremendous emotional turmoil. James Cameron did not quit his day job - he drove a truck - but he worked toward his real goal - involvement in film, and ultimaltely directing. Don't quit your day job. But do commit to your passion... understand it and get experience as you are moving into a brave new world. See you at the movies!

Keenan gives more of his personal story, and encourages you. Your personal story is significant. Don't discount that... EVERY star, Director, Producer in Hollywood came from somewhere different. They all have their unique story. So do you. You may have to sharpen some skills, and you may need more knowledge on the HOW of getting in to entertainment. But anyone, anywhere can do it, and do it right where they are.
