We often speak about mental illness, about depression, anxiety, unhappiness and stress. We speak a lot about mental illness and we often hear about the symptoms and the diagnosis. Depression and anxiety are real, I know, believe me I know. What I want to share with you is the other side of the coin. The opposite of mental illness is mental health. Can you define mental health? What does a mentally, healthy individual look like, what do they do and how is mental health achieved and maintained? I also touch briefly on how Covid-19 affected even the previously mentally healthy and share some reflections. visit: www.andrewvisagie.co.za www.journalmyjourney.life
How to get from where you are, to where you want to be in life. We all have dreams and aspirations; places we want to see and experiences we want to have. Why do so many of us get stuck, living, earning, and surviving instead of truly thriving? We often lose perspective of the amazing value our experiences and mistakes hold; we mistake launching pads (your present circumstances) for traps and we inevitably miss out on opportunities ahead of us because we don't aim for it with laser focus and clarity. Without these experiences and daily execution, your dreams and aspirations will remain unlived inside your mind. www.journalmyjourney.life www.andrewvisagie.co.za
Happiness can't be the goal, constant happiness is not attainable. Rather strive for authenticity and spontaneity. Listen to find out how you can start working towards being the person you were meant to be. www.journalmyjourney.life www.andrewvisagie.co.za
I was driving along beach road in Cape Town today, the old black dog biting at my heals this morning. Having gone through my own severe depressive episodes I've been trying to make sense of them. The purpose, the mechanism behind intense emotional experiences like anxiety and depression. It can't just be my body dragging me down for fun. It also cant just be a chemical imbalance, my personality, or my DNA. Ive been searching for a why. In this episode of "Fight Your Funk" I try make sense of why the body responds in such a manner and I start touching on what can be done about it. I maintain that depression is call to action to the brave, those who dare to listen. In saying that, when you hit that downer, it's very real, and very debilitating, don't feel like you need to go through it alone, "I have the strength to reach out if you have the courage to take my hand". Have a listen, share your thoughts
