Of Ashes and Beauty is a podcast that offers a clear-eyed perspective on U.S. American society’s most critical, controversial and divisive issues through teaching holistic history. By applying timeless principles to current issues and drawing attention to virtue, host Erika Collier clears a pathway of unity in a culture that is deeply entangled in Post Truth Era.
This episode is near and dear to my heart. It's an introductory survey to the largest migration in the history of the U.S. It's the story of The Great Migration. All of the sadness I had as a result of not learning of this monumental and critical event in our nation's history has been turned into pure joy as I get to tell it to you! You won't regret listening to this one! Enjoy!
In this episode, I had the distinct privilege of unmasking the story of Rosa Parks, which is very different than the the cemented memory many of us have of her as a mere meek seamstress who was too tired to give up her seat to a White passenger. What we know of her was most often told in a way that cements her cause and influence comfortably in the distant past. In this episode, it's my desire to debunk the mythology surrounding a "singular" act on a bus and provide clarity about a lifelong in-your-face Civil Rights activist, whose cause is still alive to this very day.
Recorded on International Women's Day, this episode offers a factual look at the life of Sally Hemings as herself. This look at her life is detached from the traditionally "honorable" reputation of Thomas Jefferson, Founding Father and drafter of the U.S. Declaration of Independence. It's HERstory, unmasked.
In this episode, you'll get to know a little about me, why I started this podcast and what I hope to accomplish by sharing much needed holistic history with you.
