What if much of what you've been told about America's founding isn't the whole story? As America approaches its 250th anniversary, Pastor Josh Howerton sits down with historian Tim Barton to examine six of the most common myths surrounding the nation's history. From Christopher Columbus and the Founding Fathers to Christianity's influence on America's founding and the role of believers in public life, this conversation dives into original documents, historical evidence, and firsthand accounts that challenge popular narratives. Whether you're passionate about history, faith, or understanding the foundations of our culture, this episode will encourage you to think critically, seek truth, and engage the world through a biblical worldview. In This Episode: • Was Christopher Columbus really a genocidal colonizer? • Were the Founding Fathers mostly deists? • Was America founded as a secular nation? • Is America's story defined entirely by slavery? • Did settlers commit genocide against Native Americans? • Should Christians stay out of politics and public life? History matters. Truth matters. And as followers of Jesus, how we understand both can shape how we live today. Stand firm. Think biblically. Live free.

In celebration of America's 250th, we'd like to officially invite you to enjoy this special episode telling the tale of that audacious, terrifying, and formative step taken by the Second Continental Congress to declare Independence in the summer of 1776. Fought over bitterly on July 1st, voted on affirmatively on the 2nd, with the exact wording finalized on the 4th—I mean, how could we not resurface episode #8's account of this story for this week? If you're new here, you may not have listened to it—here's your chance. And if you've been listening for a while, take a step back with me and remember why we revere this document. This is the story of independence and crushed hope.Congress is finally declaring independence but it isn't a straightforward process. Delegates have different perspectives; John Adams and John Dickinson are taking the floor to argue passionately for and against it. The vote will come down to the wire. It's also time to bring the "$10" Founding Father into the story. That's right. We'll meet Alexander Hamilton, get the backstory of his rough childhood in the Caribbean, and see how he ends up in the Big Apple.Speaking of NYC, George Washington has chased Lord William Howe from Boston to Manhattan, but this is a very different battlefield. Clay welcomes one of his favorite guests, Dr. Lindsay Chervinsky, to talk about America at 250. Many Americans are bewildered and frightened by the current state of the Union, unsure how things got so partisan and paralyzed. Instead of offering our personal opinions on the current crisis, we, as historians, attempt to contextualize the present moment within the broad sweep of American history, beginning, of course, with the Founding Fathers. What would Adams and Jefferson say about the world of 2026? Would they be disappointed with us? And what would they urge us to reform as we move forward into the next fifty, one hundred, and two hundred fifty years? And Clay asked Lindsay to point to the Golden Age of American life. You may be surprised by her answer.

What happens when citizenship begins to lose its meaning? For generations, people from around the world sacrificed, waited, studied, and worked to earn American citizenship because it represented something unique—freedom, self-government, opportunity, and the belief that our rights come from God, not government.Doug examines the difference between residency and citizenship, why republics require citizens, how the Founders understood self-government, and why the American Dream continues to inspire millions around the world today. This isn't really a conversation about voting. It's a conversation about America itself. What binds us together? What makes us a nation? And what responsibilities come with the privilege of citizenship? If America is going to remain America, those questions matter now more than ever. We're in this together. It is a time where we acknowledge how our Founding Fathers were willing to sacrifice it all—their land, their livelihood, their comfort—and do whatever it took to secure and maintain our current freedoms. But the explosive truth is, most Americans, even Christian Americans, have no idea what made our country so great and what it was that provided the amazing backbone of our Founding Fathers. As America prepares to celebrate its 250th anniversary, we are going to hear a lot of familiar stories. We will revisit the Founding Fathers, the great battles, and the documents that changed the course of history. But here on Wicked Women, we've always been interested in the people history leaves at the edges of the page. The women, the ordinary people, the overlooked figures who lived through extraordinary moments and whose voices can completely transform how we understand the past. The American Revolution is no exception. What if this story was never just about thirteen colonies? What if the ideas of liberty, happiness, and justice were being debated by women, Indigenous communities, enslaved people, and people across the globe who were also confronting empire and imagining a different future? What if the Revolution was not inevitable, but uncertain, deeply human, and shaped by countless lives we rarely stop to consider?Today's guest, historian Sarah Pearsall, invites us to look at this familiar story from an entirely new angle. As we approach America's 250th birthday, perhaps the most meaningful way to honor the past is not simply to repeat the stories we know, but to recover the ones we have forgotten. Hosted on Acast. Happy Regular Guy Friday! On this RGF-lite we talk what it really means to be "average"—and whether average is something we should be trying so hard to avoid in the first place. We talk growing up in a world that celebrates valedictorians and high achievers, while often overlooking the people who simply show up, work hard, and live good lives. How the tortoise sometimes catches the hare, why effort can matter more than natural talent, and whether being "AVG" might not be the insult we think it is. We talk the summers of the '80s—blockbuster movies, miniature golf, and a driver's license were enough to make life feel full. How those simpler moments shaped us, and why they still have a way of bringing us back. We talk hoarder houses, work ethic, the Founding Fathers, Back to the Future, methheads with hearts of gold, and why maybe life isn't about being the smartest person in the room—it's about showing up, staying curious, and keeping a sense of humor along the way. The Birth of the Continental Army. How did the Second Continental Congress create the Continental Army on June 14, 1775, a full year before the Declaration of Independence? The creation of the Continental Army marked one of the most important turning points of the American Revolution and launched George Washington's leadership before the United States officially existed. Long before the Founding Fathers declared independence, Congress faced an impossible question: How do you fight a war when your country doesn't exist yet? In this episode of America's Founding Series on The P.A.S. Report Podcast, Professor Nick Giordano strips away the textbook myths to reveal the real story behind the birth of the Continental Army. Discover how John Adams engineered one of the most consequential political decisions in American history, why George Washington became the ideal choice to command the new force, and how a collection of local militias helped forge an American identity before America officially existed. This isn't just a story about military history. It's a story about liberty, civic responsibility, self-government, and the moment Americans took ownership of their destiny. What You'll Learn In This Episode: Why the creation of the Continental Army mattered more than many of the famous battles of the American Revolution How John Adams transformed a regional New England conflict into a truly American cause Why George Washington's appointment carried enormous political significance beyond military leadership How the Continental Army forged an American identity before the United States officially existed What modern Americans can learn about liberty, self-government, civic responsibility, and the preservation of freedom As America celebrates its 250th anniversary, this episode explores a forgotten truth: liberty requires responsibility. The men who created the Continental Army understood that freedom cannot survive when citizens refuse to defend it. The question is whether Americans still understand that lesson today. This week's episode, which finds Steve over in Japan but still with a hoarse voice, ranges widely from exonerating John Yoo from being implicated in a major whiskey heist, to what the prodigious drinking habits of the Founding Fathers has to say about constitutional law today. Justice Neil Gorsuch reminds us that “John Adams took a tankard of hard cider with his breakfast every day. James Madison reportedly drank a pint of whiskey every day. Thomas Jefferson said he wasn't much of a user of alcohol—he only had three or four glasses of wine a night.” Ah, the great ones.Speaking of the Founders, we make a nod to the tragic passing of Gordon Wood, and naturally manage to get into an argument about history and historians. But the central topic of today is considering John's foray into grand strategy in his Civitas Outlook article this week on "America Doesn't Need to Fear a 'Thucydides Trap'," , and while Admiral Ackbar needed to fear a trap, John doesn't think so. But what was Chinese premier Xi trying to do in bringing up the subject in a public session at the recent summit with Trump? One doesn't imagine Trump being a reader of Thucydides, though one can easily see him liking the outcome of the Melian debate. In fact, maybe that's what he's up to with Iran? Who can tell.

Dave Rubin of "The Rubin Report" talks to Eric Metaxas about his new book "Revolution: The Birth of the Greatest Nation in the History of the World" and why the American Revolution created an unprecedented system of liberty, self-government, and constitutional rights rooted in faith and personal responsibility; the forgotten heroism of America's Founding Fathers including George Washington, John Adams, Samuel Adams, Nathan Hale, and Henry Knox; why patriotism, Christianity, and understanding American history are essential ahead of America's 250th anniversary; how the left, Marxism, and anti-American narratives have reshaped education and culture; and why preserving freedom, the Constitution, and the American experiment requires civic engagement, sacrifice, and moral courage, and much more.

Meet my friends, Clay Travis and Buck Sexton! If you love Verdict, the Clay Travis and Buck Sexton Show might also be in your audio wheelhouse. Politics, news analysis, and some pop culture and comedy thrown in too. Here’s a sample episode recapping four takeaways. Give the guys a listen and then follow and subscribe wherever you get your podcasts. Hedonic Adaptation Clay Travis and Buck Sexton discuss the growing relevance of political prediction markets, which Clay argues are more accurate than traditional polling. He discusses his own active wagers on key races, including multiple U.S. Senate contests, House control, and long-term presidential projections, highlighting how real-money betting markets are shaping modern election analysis and offering insight into voter expectations. This reinforces a broader theme of the show: skepticism toward conventional polling and increasing reliance on data-driven political forecasting. The hosts also debate whether California’s political landscape has national significance, asking whether issues like crime, homelessness, and governance failures will resonate with voters outside the state. They contrast this with what they see as a more immediate concern for most Americans: gas prices, inflation, and overall cost of living. The discussion underscores a key political question—whether economic pressures or cultural issues will ultimately drive voter decisions in upcoming elections. Vote Steve Hilton! An extended interview with California gubernatorial candidate Steve Hilton, who outlines his campaign message and policy priorities. Hilton argues that California is ready for change, pointing to widespread dissatisfaction with taxes, crime, homelessness, regulatory burdens, and high cost of living. He emphasizes the importance of the state’s primary system, warning that without sufficient support, Republicans risk being excluded from the general election if two Democratic candidates advance. Hilton presents a platform focused on economic reform and practical solutions, including plans to lower gas prices, reduce regulation, increase opportunity, and address homelessness through enforcement and treatment-based approaches. He also highlights concerns about businesses leaving California and population decline, framing the state’s current trajectory as unsustainable without major policy changes. His campaign emphasizes “common sense” governance and outsider leadership, appealing to voters frustrated with long-term one-party control. The discussion also touches on the impact of endorsements from President Donald Trump and Vice President JD Vance, with Hilton arguing that alignment with federal leadership could accelerate reforms and help restore economic growth. The interview reinforces broader themes of anti-establishment sentiment, voter frustration, and the appeal of non-traditional candidates. Make Soccer Great Again An in-depth interview with Andrew Giuliani, who discusses the upcoming FIFA World Cup in the United States. This segment explores the economic impact, national security planning, and global significance of the tournament, emphasizing its expected $30 billion economic boost and massive international viewership. Giuliani outlines extensive security measures, infrastructure planning, and fan experience logistics, positioning the World Cup as a key moment for showcasing American exceptionalism and large-scale event execution. The discussion includes practical insights on ticket demand, pricing, stadium access, and travel expectations, making it highly relevant for sports fans and event attendees. Are You Excited About 250? An interview with Kelley Paul, author of two new children’s books Goodnight Young American and Goodnight Little American. Her books are designed to introduce young audiences to American history and patriotic themes, focusing on the Founding Fathers, the Revolutionary War, and the ideals of liberty and independence. Paul explains that the books were inspired by a desire to provide family-friendly, patriotic educational content for children, emphasizing storytelling that highlights American courage, freedom, and foundational values. She discusses concerns that modern media and children’s programming may lack this perspective, and positions her books as a way to encourage historical awareness, family engagement, and national pride. Paul also reflects on her personal experiences growing up during the bicentennial and contrasts that era’s widespread community celebrations and patriotic enthusiasm with what she perceives as a less unified national mood today. She emphasizes the importance of teaching younger generations about American history through accessible and engaging formats, including literature and family traditions such as visiting historical sites.
