Two gals. Endless horse books.
KBGA Missoula, Pasture Bedtime
In the 6th and 7th book of the Phantom Stallion series, Sam gets a stepmother, is attacked by a cougar, rides the Phantom, and gets into a fight with Jake. Stephanie visits the Phantom Stallion wiki and sprains a tooth. Melanie refuses to allow teeth to exist in her world, and lists her top 4 bad boys of the horse world.
We read books 4 and 5 of the Phantom Stallion series, The Renegade and Free again. Stephanie enlists Evan Smith for a dramatic reading of some of Jake's scenes. Melanie reads a horse story from Jeff, and we ask the audience to submit their own horse stories for future episodes.
We read the next two books in the Phantom Stallion series, which features one horse who is an escaped endurance champion and an abused mustang pony. Jake and Sam share two hugs and a lot of teenage awkwardness. Stephanie and Melanie talk about sexual expectations in relationships. For Mane Characters Melanie tells a story about a bad experience her family had with some barn sour horses on an island without cars.
We begin the first book in the 24 book Phantom Stallion series with The Wild One, and Stephanie rates it higher on the Pony Scales than any other book we have read. Melanie tells us a story about her childhood fantasy that the Backstreet Boys were always standing outside her window watching her, and for Mane Characters she talks about Tango, one of Jazzy's colts, kicking her father in the nuts.
We discuss Chris Platt's novel Race the Wind and our own plans for a horse story. Melanie tells a story about her friend Emily's horse who recently died of colic.
