In Jessi Sanfilippo's life, the most important thing hasn't been worrying about a big, flashy award for her work, but rather, being herself through the process and learning from each new experience. In this episode, Jessi opens up about her first job in radio (inspired by her love of pop culture icons like the Backstreet Boys); balancing a career with raising a child; how being at home with her son enabled her to tap into her creativity; her “no regrets” mentality when it comes to her career; her “aha” moment while toasting a PopTart; and how forming a creative agency led to a role in event marketing, which then helped guide her to where she is today, working at the intersection of three of the things she's most passionate about: tech, connecting people, and live music. No Strings Attached in this episode... things get dicey when Tim wants to discuss the "Boy Band Craze" that he and Phil grew up around when they run into a road block... they can't agree on what the term "Boy Band" actually means! The Jerks present their passionate perspectives on what a Boy Band is to them and explore the roots and rolls they have in pop culture. We reflect on the days of *NSYNC vs. Backstreet Boys and of course talk all time Boy Band Bangers! --- Support this podcast: https://anchor.fm/jerks-in-the-4th-row/support

A new week is here and that means the gang from the Real Life Podcast is back with a brand new episode to help you get through what's left of your Monday. On today's podcast, the guys looked at celebrity net worths, the #NationVacation, and a whole lot more. To kick things off, the guys got the podcast started with a chat about music after Wanye noticed that Baggedmilk was wearing his headphones on the outside of his hoodie for some reason. That somehow led the guys to talk about everything from Kenny G's help in the Kanye/Kim proposal to taking guesses at David Copperfield's net worth, which led to an impromptu game of who's richer. Whether it was comparing Backstreet Boys to N'Sync, the guys spent way too much time arguing about boy bands and whether these guys should still be dancing at their age. Changing gears entirely, Yaremchuk walked us through the #NationVacation to Nashville and how it was an incredible experience for everyone involved. From the game on the ice to the party after the buzzer, Tyler made everyone feel the FOMO after what was undoubtedly an amazing trip down to Nashville. Sticking with the Oilers, the guys walked through the six remaining games on the schedule and what needs to be done before we get that sweet 'X' beside our name in the standings.

Author Adib Khorram explores the complexities of being queer in the public eye in his latest YA book, Kiss & Tell. Hunter is a role model for queer teens — a boy band star currently touring North America. But with that stardom comes a lot to juggle, especially when his love life is under the microscope of public pressure. Adib joins Chelsea Regan to discuss writing his novel and all things boy bands, including the eternal question: NSYNC or Backstreet Boys? This episode contains an instance of mild swearing. Frylock will do anything to beat Wayne "The Main Brain" McClain at bar trivia. ANYTHING. Frylock wants those bar dollars. "Well surely he wouldn't ludovico technique his friends over the course of a week, force feeding all the world's events except for sports into their brains, would he?" Wow, he actually does exactly that. You must have already seen this episode. I mean I assume you have if you listen to someone talk about Aqua Teen for over an hour every week. Super Trivia is the only time we see Wayne, played wonderfully by Seth MacFarlane. His voice is like a mix of Peter and Brian Griffin... but more cocky. Other topics discussed include Hilary Duff and Target's playlist, Simpson's Hit and Run, Backstreet Boys, and the rich getting richer while the poor stay poor. Boy bands were all the rage in the 1990's and early 2000's. But did you know that most of those groups originated with the same man? And did you also know that he was a con artist? You do not want to miss this story about Lou Pearlman, the man behind the Backstreet Boys, N'Sync, LFO, and O-Town.
Today on The Caregiver Dave Celebrity Segment, Dave and Neil will interview Country Singer// Son of Backstreet Boy Baylee Littrell. When I heard that a new Pixar movie was coming out, and that it would be about a preteen girl in the early 2000's I was excited. I was not prepared for the level of nostalgia I would feel from watching it, however. 4*Town reminded me of all of my favorite boy bands growing up - Backstreet Boys, *NSYNC, and, of course, Dream Street. I decided to use those nostalgic feelings to analyze how 4*Town's songs stacked up against the early 2000's classics using my Boy Band Metric. Listen to hear how your favorites compare! You want it...that way? WHAT WAY?!? Evan and Andrew are joined by Backstreet Boys' superfans Jack Douglass and Erin Breslin to get to the bottom of WHAT WAY the Backstreet Boys so desperately wanted, while also wanting so desperately for their fire, their one desire, to NOT also want even as they were wanting it. Heather and Jameson are again joined by superstar guest Eddie Jones as the trio discusses the teen pop music scene of the late 1990s and early 2000s. Airplay of rock, electronica, and alternative music took a backseat as boy bands and pop princesses took over MTV (thanks TRL!). Dropping knowledge, Eddie talks about the distinct sound of this style of music coming out of Sweden with Max Martin, in which the lyrics never need to make any damn sense. The trio also talk about the elephant in the room, as mentioned during the TRL episode, the lack of attention to and airplay of black artists at this time, leaving us to ask yet again: MTV, why so white? In other podcast news, Jameson got a discount on a new disc golf bag, Heather is not shopping at Kohls, and Eddie challenges Jameson to recall the writer of Crossroads (Shondraland for the win!). Jameson pays homage to Shackleton during Listen to this Shit in honor of the recent discovery of his ship, the Endurance. Check out the article here: https://tinyurl.com/4jhvjkyj. Eddie takes charge of Top Countdown again with U + Me + Us (Calculus) by 2Gether (check out the video here: https://tinyurl.com/2p85d36x). And of course, Gen X might have jumped the shark with the mention of Nickelback (everyone has to drink now).
