Today I speak pretty candidly about being compassionate. In fact, at about the 13 minute mark, I cut the feed and piece together the end of the segment because I started going overboard. Showing compassion for those who are different is something we can all do better. Showing compassion in general should come natural but somehow it doesn’t to some. That’s an issue we can all work on. I also discuss family & friends; how to get them more involved with your kids.
Today I’m discussing two topics. In the first part of the segment, I discuss trying to make things come together in our community such as day programs or summer programs. In the second half of the segment, I get emotional discussing communicating with local police to educate yourself on their procedures in dealing with people with cognitive disabilities & educating them on how to handle our kids who may not be compliant or even understand. I also discuss how taking on one single task for the community can make more of a difference than you can ever know. One for all.
Today I take you to Grand Cayman for a moment of escape but then quickly we return to reality and discuss how to handle phone calls from the school about behavioral issues. I also discuss what to do to get a BIP in place. Email me at averymichaelsbooks@gmail.com with questions.
The first 18 minutes of this segment is about how we prepare to travel having a special needs child even though he’s not going with us. After that, I dip my toes into the controversial topic of vaccinations & autism.
In this segment I get very real about my experiences with the world and how it’s not built to accommodate our kids. I also talk about trust and just when you think I’ve lost my mind, I think I manage to pull it together. Thanks for listening.
In this segment, I discuss CBD oil in detail and medical marijuana. I discuss the pros & cons of CBD while my dog makes noises chewing on her bone thus distracting me. Enjoy. Please email me your thoughts on CBD and how it’s positively or negatively impacted your family at averymichaelsbooks@gmail.com. Thanks!
This week’s podcast is short & sweet. I had a quick trip to Charm City aka Baltimore. My son wasn’t loving the change in routine nor did he enjoy his substitute bus driver. How do we handle these hiccups? Listen for more!
In today’s segment, I discuss calling special IEP meetings, how to get more services for your child, and when it’s okay to say no.
We have to educate others in order to change the world for our kids with special needs. Even if we have to do it one person at a time. That person may go tell two more people and so on. Discuss doctor’s visit and discrimination in several settings.
I discuss more about education rights in the first part of this episode. In the next part, I discuss some personal experiences that we went through this week that we had to navigate through. Navigating new waters isn’t easy but in this case, it was necessary. I talk about how you can help others just by helping your child. I also discuss drawing strength. Thanks for listening!
In this episode, I begin to walk you down the path of how our journey started. It was us versus the school district in a face off for a free & appropriate education for my autistic son. I share some resources.
I introduce myself and what I will be discussing in this podcast. This podcast is for parents, parents of special needs children, or people who are just trying to hold it together. I learn something new everyday and would like to share that with you!
