This week, Sonia and Jess are both deep in the luteal phase, going to bed at elderly hours, blaming their hormones for basically everything, and trying to understand why being a woman requires this much administrative work. Sonia also says goodbye to her little man Cheech after 18 years, and discovers that AI has apparently decided she can no longer be trusted to answer Jess's texts herself. Then things get slightly more serious. The girls talk postpartum mental health, why telling a struggling new mom “it's just hormones” is technically true and also deeply unhelpful, and the complicated reality of loving your baby more than anything while simultaneously wondering what happened to the person you were before becoming responsible for keeping another human alive. They share their own postpartum experiences—from the emotional overwhelm to lactating through stained T-shirts, wearing whatever still fits, and discovering that ankles are apparently a privilege. This week's story is Australian broadcaster Erin Holland's extraordinary road to motherhood: years of fertility treatment, 20 rounds of IVF, five egg retrievals, seven embryo transfers, four miscarriages, an ectopic pregnancy, and eventually, her long-awaited miracle baby. Sonia and Jess talk about the part of infertility people don't always understand—when you've experienced enough disappointment, even good news can feel suspicious, and sometimes you're so busy trying to make it to the next blood test, ultrasound, heartbeat, or milestone that you're afraid to picture the baby at the end of it. As closing arguments wind down in Utah, the deep state's desperate plot to frame a lone-wolf scapegoat for Charlie Kirk's assassination is falling apart at the seams. Armed with boots-on-the-ground reporting from citizen journalists and relentless exposure of regime shills, we break through the propaganda machine to deliver the unfiltered truth to the American people. Ana Escobar joins Stew to detail a shadowy web of Hebrew Google searches that allegedly tracked political figures and false-flag operatives right as covert Egyptian military flights touched down across America and unpack new forensic updates surrounding the explosive destruction of a DoD-contracted munitions plant and reveal suspicious flight patterns linking private jets to an alleged off-the-grid weapons trafficking network. The whole left-right paradigm is nothing more than a carefully crafted show designed to keep everyday Americans distracted while the real ruling class pulls the levers of power. Stew sits down with Dr. Michael Rectenwald to expose the false political choices, dissect the ongoing psyops, and lay out what it actually takes to fight back for true American sovereignty. The fake medical establishment relies on toxic GLP-1 injections and poison "food" to keep Americans sick, broken, and dependent on big pharma. Energized Health founder John Jubilee joins Stew to expose how targeting root cellular hydration naturally shreds fat, rebuilds muscle, and reverses chronic illness without gym gimmicks or big box slop. As lead guitar for Jefferson Airplane and Hot Tuna, Jorma Kaukonen performed at Woodstock, Altamont, the Monterey Pop Festival and on some of the most legendary concert bills of the psychedelic rock era, sharing the stage with everyone from the Grateful Dead and Janis Joplin to B.B. King and Muddy Waters. Along the way, he not only lived cannabis history, he inhaled it. As you're about to hear… For the past three decades, Jorma has been happily living a sober life, but when a lifetime of non-stop guitar playing finally caught up with him in the form of joint and muscle pain, he recently rediscovered the medicinal power of cannabis. And so he's now the proud proprietor of Jorma's Choice full-spectrum CBD oil muscle balm, touted as providing all natural relief for fingerpicking' hands and sore muscles. It's another Listener Mail episode on High on Home Grown, and this week the community has sent us some fantastic questions covering cannabis genetics, growing myths, extracts, outdoor growing and the eternal battle against the breeder's timeline! We kick things off with a fascinating question about the explosion of new cannabis crosses and whether we're eventually going to reach a point where every strain starts becoming some generic hybrid, with less of the individuality that made classic cultivars so memorable. We also investigate an old piece of growing advice about leaving water out for 24 hours to "de-gas" it. Is there actually anything to it, or is this simply another bit of grow-room folklore? We then get into cannabis extracts, including RSO and MCT oil, and discuss whether less traditionally sedating cultivars such as Jack Herer or CBD-rich varieties are worth using for extracts. There's also a big outdoor-growing question about finishing plants late in the season without losing everything to botrytis, covering what growers can realistically do when autumn brings rain, dew, cold temperatures and high humidity. Finally, we tackle the frustration of a plant that refuses to follow the breeder's schedule! What does it actually mean when an auto advertised as 63 days is still going strong at day 80? We discuss why breeder timelines aren't guarantees, what can influence flowering time, and whether there's anything growers can realistically do when a plant simply needs longer to finish. And naturally, Lobby Lobster has returned with another vital contribution to science: is shortbread a biscuit or a bread, and why isn't sourdough actually sour? Another great episode of community questions, growing knowledge, myths, science and the usual High on Home Grown nonsense.

Meredith Cook grew up in Charlotte, North Carolina, one of four kids in a small house with two working parents. She was later diagnosed with ADHD and dyslexia, which made traditional school a struggle, so she skipped college and trained as an esthetician instead — working odd jobs on the side, including driving medical specimens between cities at night for quick cash. She spent nearly a decade working under a Charlotte dermatologist after literally walking office to office asking to work for free just to learn. After her second son was born, she felt a disconnect she couldn't explain — not herself, foggy, disconnected from her kids and the people around her. She pushed through it quietly for years, assuming it was just what motherhood felt like. The turning point came when her brother, training for an Ironman in Wilmington, started experimenting with hemp and CBD for his own recovery and encouraged her to try it. Her husband bought everything on the shelf at the local health food store. The fog lifted — but so did her trust in what she was actually putting in her body, once she realized the hemp industry at the time had zero transparency or testing standards. Her husband's connections in agriculture led her to a friend growing USDA organic hemp through a pilot program. She started taking their clean product, felt like herself again, and started sharing it with her mom, her mother-in-law, and friends — watching a business snowball entirely from word of mouth. In 2019, she officially launched Green Compass with her brother and husband, built on a referral-based model where the people sharing the product were the same people who'd felt it change their lives. It grew to $50 million in revenue in two years, almost entirely without paid marketing or PR. When that channel began to shift industry-wide, Meredith resisted changing course longer than she probably should have — she was emotionally invested in the community that built the brand. Eventually, alongside customer surveys and community input, Green Compass transitioned to a DTC model, now generating roughly 80% of revenue from recurring subscriptions, with a growing lineup that includes Core Bloom, a broccoli sprout and mushroom blend, and more product innovation on the way. This week on the hemp podcast we take a ride in the RV Time Machine. We're going back five years, back to the National Hemp Tour in the summer of 2021, when we took the podcast on the road — and took my family too. We traveled over ten thousand miles from coast to coast in a rented RV visiting hemp farms, processors and manufacturers across the country. The industry was sparse then and these hemp companies were few and far between in 2021. And keep in mind that in 2021, most of the noise around industrial hemp was actually about CBD flower and canabinoid production. What made our trip different was that we were talking to the people on the fiber and grain side of the industry, where the game-changing potential of this plant is strongest. Think houses, textiles, food and fuel. Think row crops, think big acreage, think about a third crop in with our beloved corn and soy. Think Hemp, big, boring and ubiquitous. But it has to start somewhere. People have to start doing things to make it happen. So in 2021, I set out to meet the people where they were. I went to see the farms, see the fields and see the factories. I wanted to meet the people, hear their dreams and see their visions come to life. And now five years later, with gas prices approaching 5 dollars a gallon, we go back on the road again, but this time we go virtually. Over the next few months, I will be sharing new conversations from the people I met on the road back then. We'll hear what's changed, what's stayed the same and what the industry looks like now. But before we start publishing those episodes, we're going to go back in time and revisit the tour itself. This episode is your atlas for our time travel. Buckle up, buttercup, and we'll see you in 2021. Thanks to our Sponsors IND HEMP indhemp.com Condor Seeds condorseed.com Forever Green hempcutter.com

Welcome to the Land of the Terps! Cannabis School 101 is officially back, and this time Brandon and Jesse are going deeper than the usual THC percentage and strain name.Today's lesson focuses on nerolidol, a minor terpene found in cannabis and aromatic plants such as jasmine, lemongrass, tea tree, ginger, and orange blossom. It is not usually one of the largest numbers on a cannabis label, but that does not mean it should be ignored.Nerolidol has a subtle aroma commonly described as woody, floral, green, earthy, and slightly sweet—almost like fresh bark. It exists in cis and trans forms and belongs to a class of compounds called sesquiterpenes. Why do plants produce terpenes in the first place? They were not created for humans to enjoy. Terpenes help plants communicate, defend themselves, discourage certain insects, attract beneficial organisms, and interact with the environment around them. The guys use an entourage analogy to explain why isolated compounds cannot always predict a complete cannabis experience. One person can accomplish something alone, but the right team working together may create something entirely different. Cannabis is similar: cannabinoids, terpenes, flavonoids, dose, and personal biology all contribute to the final experience.Research has investigated nerolidol for insect-related plant defense, skin penetration, and possible calming or sedating properties. That does not make it a proven treatment, but it does make this minor terpene worth watching as cannabis research develops.Brandon and Jesse explore nerolidol while vaporizing Blue Lobster, a strain in which it may appear alongside more familiar terpenes such as myrcene, limonene, beta-caryophyllene, and linalool. Blue Lobster's calm, relaxed experience gives the guys a real-world starting point for discussing how a minor terpene may fit into a much larger chemical profile. The conversation also covers vaporizer temperatures, cannabis aroma, topical products, fast-acting edibles, dosing mistakes, CBD and CBG flower, and why beginners should never assume a product is mild based only on its size. The homework is simple: stop shopping by THC percentage alone. Ask for the certificate of analysis, examine more than the top three terpenes, and begin noticing which combinations consistently work well for you.In this episode:• What terpenes do inside plants• What nerolidol is and how to pronounce it• Cis-nerolidol versus trans-nerolidol• Woody, floral, earthy, and fresh-bark aromas• Nerolidol in jasmine, ginger, tea tree, and citrus• Plant defense and chemical signaling• Monoterpenes versus sesquiterpenes• The cannabis entourage-effect theory• Why minor terpenes still matter• Blue Lobster and its terpene profile• Research into skin penetration and topical formulations• Vaporizer temperature and aroma• Fast-acting versus traditional edibles• Why accurate edible dosing matters• CBD and CBG flower for lower-tolerance consumers• Reading a cannabis certificate of analysisLand of the Terps: What Is Nerolidol?Find everything in one place here:

This week Sonia and Jess start with a very important discussion about luteal-phase personalities, accidentally discovering the secret to good hair, and a grocery-store experience so upsetting it nearly ended Taco Tuesday. Sonia introduces Annabelle to the sacred Maine tradition of buying your first L.L.Bean backpack for school, and the girls would like everyone from outside of Maine to understand that, yes, technically other backpack brands exist. No, that information changes nothing. Then they talk about why asking a woman whether she plans to have another baby can be a wildly loaded question, especially when you have no idea what happened behind the scenes to get her the child she already has. They also share some very exciting 'Geriatric' Mamas news and dive into Lo Bosworth's fertility journey, from freezing her eggs in her 30s to endometriosis, IVF and eventually becoming a mom. And because no episode can remain on topic for too long, there's also Taco Tuesday, a highly classified guacamole recipe, Sonia's late mom still finding ways to make her presence known, and the story of how Jess and Sonia became friends. One camp says your reflux is too much stomach acid. The other says it's too little. Dr. Ken Brown says both camps are arguing over the wrong control knob.In this solo episode, the board-certified gastroenterologist makes the case that reflux was never an acid problem - it's a containment problem. Acid belongs in the stomach, and the real question nobody asks is why it left in the first place.Dr. Brown walks through the mechanics: the stomach as a one-way muscular pump, the lower esophageal sphincter as a nightclub bouncer who's started letting people back out the front door, the "acid puddle" that pools when the stomach won't empty, and the inflammation cycle that weakens the valve and keeps the whole thing self-sustaining. He looks at what 37 years of proton pump inhibitors have actually delivered - eight-plus drugs, an 83% rise in documented GERD, and a side effect list that includes bone, B12, magnesium, and kidney concerns - and points out that PPIs don't improve gastric emptying, don't reduce abdominal pressure, and don't strengthen the sphincter. He also tells his own story: 30 years of reflux, a four-centimeter hiatal hernia, grade C esophagitis, every natural remedy on the shelf, and the eight-year project to build something that addressed the mechanism instead of the symptom - the four-polyphenol Re:Flux formula and the clinical trial behind it, recently published in the Open Journal of Gastroenterology. In this episode:- Why the "too much vs. too little acid" debate misses the mechanism- How your stomach actually works as a one-way cycling pump- Transient lower esophageal sphincter relaxations, explained without the jargon- The acid puddle, and why gastric sleeve and GLP-1 patients get it- What stomach acid is genuinely for (B12, minerals, pathogen defense)- The three questions to ask instead of "how much acid?"- What PPIs do well, and what they were never designed to do- The HAND polyphenols and the trial resultsChapters: 0:00 The wrong debate · 2:45 Two camps · 4:15 37 years of PPIs · 7:48 The one-way pump · 12:39 The acid puddle · 14:18 Why the valve opens · 17:15 Why you need acid · 18:59 Three better questions · 21:08 What PPIs can't do · 23:07 Dr. Brown's own 30 years · 26:20 Building the formula · 28:40 Trial results · 33:45 Acid is not the villainEducational content only - not medical advice. Ask almost anyone how Ozempic works and you'll hear the same answer: it slows your stomach down. Dr. Ken Brown says that's the magician's waving hand.In this solo episode, the board-certified gastroenterologist walks through the research showing that roughly 99% of GLP-1 weight loss happens in three regions of the brain - and that the gut accounts for less than 1%. Which means the nausea, bloating, and heartburn people white-knuckle through aren't the thing making them lose weight. He maps the actual mechanism: the hypothalamus, where a misfiring hunger neuron acts like a broken fuel light telling you the tank is empty when it's full. The mesolimbic system, where dopamine explains why you find room for a Crumbl cookie after a full dinner - and why fMRI scans of that reward circuit go dark once someone starts a GLP-1. And the brainstem's area postrema, the ancient poison-detection system these drugs quietly hijack to produce fullness and nausea. Then the part he sees in clinic every week: why the pylorus tightens, why the migrating motor complex stalls, why the fundus stretches, and how that combination pools acid at the top of the stomach and pushes it into the esophagus. Plus the trial data showing most stomachs return to normal emptying by around 16 weeks, why a PPI often doesn't fix GLP-1 heartburn, and what he does instead for patients ready to quit a medication their gut can't tolerate. In this episode:- Why "it slows your stomach" is a misdirection- Your body's own GLP-1, and why these drugs act like an Amber Alert instead- The three brain regions doing 99% of the work- The broken fuel light: AgRP, POMC, and lifelong hunger- Dopamine, the dessert tray, and why this isn't willpower- The fMRI studies that made it visible- What the drugs actually do to the stomach — and the bathtub with the plug in it- Tachyphylaxis: why it improves around 16 weeks- Long-term GLP-1 use and SIBO risk- How to keep the weight loss without the gut miseryChapters: 0:00 The misdirection · 3:21 How your own GLP-1 works · 4:38 Three brain regions · 9:35 The broken fuel light · 11:08 Why you find room for the cookie · 13:11 The fMRI studies · 15:01 What happens in the stomach · 17:21 The bathtub analogy · 19:56 The trials nobody talks about · 21:31 Why 16 weeks matters · 23:29 SIBO and long-term use · 23:58 You don't have to suffer · 30:10 Bringing it togetherEducational content only - not medical advice. Paren data shows Ionna averages $0.37/kWh, the cheapest of 17 networks and about 40% below Tesla and Electrify America's $0.56, though home charging still dominates at more than 90% of sessions and $0.18/kWh.ZEEKR TO LAUNCH 8X AND 9X IN AUSTRALIAZeekr will add the 9X and 8X luxury plug-in hybrid SUVs to its all-electric Australian range from late 2026 into 2027, after passing 10,000 local sales in under two years. The three-row 8X targets the BMW X5 and Range Rover Sport below A$100,000 with 900-volt charging, while the 9X moves upmarket at around A$150,000 with six-seat luxury and Naim audio; both are heavy, road-focused monocoque vehicles rather than off-roaders.LI SHUFU LEAVES GEELY AUTO CHAIRLi Shufu has resigned as chairman of Geely Automobile after 40 years, with An Conghui succeeding him on 18 August 2026 and Li becoming honorary chairman for life while remaining controlling shareholder and chairman of Zhejiang Geely Holding. Gan Jiayue becomes CEO as the group shifts from family-centred management toward professional systems, targeting two-thirds of sales outside China and 5% market share by 2030 across Europe, the Americas and Southeast Asia.LEIPZIG PREPARES FOR NEUE KLASSEBMW halted Leipzig production for a five-and-a-half-week summer shutdown in which over 2,000 contractors replaced 240 hydraulic lifting tables, installed 160 body-shop robots and swapped roughly 1,500 tonnes of steel to handle Neue Klasse underbodies integrating the battery and powertrain. BMW spent a low three-digit million sum on top of nearly €2 billion over five years, though it has not named which models Leipzig will build, as new i3 production began in Munich this month.SPARKCHARGE EXPANDS UK ENERGY NETWORKSparkCharge is bringing its US distributed energy model to the UK, serving autonomous fleets, construction and industrial sites that cannot wait for adequate grid connections. Founded by CEO Joshua Aviv and already operating across North America, the company will combine AI-optimised software, battery storage and on-site generation under new UK managing director James Taylor.FEDERAL PACKAGE TARGETS HEAVY EV BARRIERSAustralia has committed $400 million to heavy-vehicle reforms targeting charging barriers, automated permits, curfews and weight limits, announced by Treasurer Jim Chalmers after a Productivity Commission report found road-freight productivity had stalled for over a decade. The Commission estimated wider access for high-productivity and zero-emission trucks could add up to $4 billion to GDP annually, with electric trucks currently under 1% of Australian heavy-vehicle sales.ŠKODA ADDS V2L AND CAMP MODEŠkoda has added Vehicle-to-Load bidirectional charging, which powers external devices via a 230V boot socket, and an app-activated Camp Mode that maintains overnight cabin temperature with at least 30% charge. The new Peaq will also offer a Relax Package with AGR-certified massaging seats, electric leg rests and Sonos audio, plus a Wellbeing app, ventilated Phone Box and up to four 45W USB-C ports.BEACHMAN TARGETS OLD BIKES FOR ELECTRIC CONVERSIONBeachman Bikes is seeking broken motorcycles for electric conversion, building on founders Ben Taylor and Steve Payne's first prototype, a modified 1979 Kawasaki KZ200 completed in 2020, and a production run of 30 bikes on a 1970s 125cc platform. Having sold the 45 mph '64 as a Class II e-bike, the company is moving to pedal-free low-speed motorcycles in Canada and plans to end US e-bike sales next year to become a moped and motorcycle manufacturer.BRISBANE RIVER E-SCOOTERS STAY UNDERWATERAugust low tides exposed dozens of dumped Lime, Neuron and Beam e-scooters in the Brisbane River, including 24 near the CBD, with Ocean Crusaders having collected around 150 in the past year and storing the waterlogged batteries privately. Water experts warned that lithium, copper, nickel, cobalt and manganese could accumulate in sediment and harm macroinvertebrates, while the council caps operators at 7,100 devices and reportedly earned just over AUD$5m last financial year.
Send us Fan MailThe hosts discuss developments in the DEA marijuana rescheduling process, noting final briefs were due Monday and the DEA is now arguing marijuana should not remain in Schedule I, acknowledging accepted medical use for pain, anorexia, and chemotherapy-related nausea, and disputing two Schedule I prongs including safety under medical supervision. They describe a waiting period after transcript-verbatim corrections and predict movement before the midterms, arguing HHS scientific findings are binding and appeals by groups like SAM and NASTA are unlikely to succeed. They emphasize rescheduling is not legalization and call for federal standards, including a “full spectrum CBD” definition and consistent THC regulation across hemp and cannabis to end “scheduled twice” confusion and address interstate-commerce limits. Other topics include lawmakers pressing the Trump administration on rollout, Georgia regulators' limits on directing carriers, hemp farmers facing possible THC bans, market chatter on THC beverages, a dementia THC-oil trial, and a Massachusetts whistleblower lawsuit.Support the showGet our newsletter: https://bit.ly/3VEn9vu

Serves Seminole, Orange, Lake, Volusia, and Osceola counties. Bear Cat THC Seltzer (drinkbearcat.com, promo code BDM420) — 20% off a 5% THC / 20mg CBD seltzer with a mushroom blend; no recommendation needed, must be 21+. Available at Gravity Taproom (Orlando), a bar in Winter Park, Legacy Wine and Liquors (Sanford), Rock Brew (Sanford), and One Utopia (Clermont), with tastings announced on their social media. Streamline Mortgage Solutions (streamlineflorida.com) — Contact Brian for free mortgage guidance; he tracks changing mortgage programs/laws and alerts clients when it's worth refinancing. Segment Rundown Cold open: Orlando Weekly wins — Tom and Dan thank listeners for voting them #1 podcast in the Orlando Weekly awards again (won every year but one), explain why the recognition matters for their small business, praise Will's Pub owner Will Walker for leaning into similar local promotion, and tease a story they're saving for Monday's BDM-only show. Nobody has it figured out — After a bit riffing on an adult-film parody, the group discusses chasing money and fame with Aimee, including the story of Pauly Shore once calling them for business advice and George Wallace still hustling decades into his career — the takeaway being that no one, however successful, ever fully "figures it out." Selling 10% of the show — Inspired by NFL teams selling ownership stakes (the Atlanta Falcons' $1.6B sale of 10%) and Mark Cuban's rise, the hosts joke about selling 10% of Tom and Dan and using AI to preserve their likenesses after death. Aimee's job buyout — Aimee shares that she's taking a voluntary severance from her 12-year job at a Medicaid-based insurance company, effective by May 2027, and has already lined up new therapy and contract work; the hosts joke about her stealing office supplies and the three of them starting an affiliate partnership. Neighbor bush feud advice — Aimee asks for help with an 11-year feud with an elderly neighbor over a shared, overgrown bush encroaching on her house; the group runs through escalating "solutions" (hiring a surveyor since overhanging branches can legally be trimmed, plant diseases/whiteflies, popping tires, a kindness gift basket) while Aimee also vents about the same neighbors letting their dogs bark late at night. Aimee's upcoming shows (first plug) — Plugs for Aimee's long-running Shit Sandwich comedy show (15 years, first and third Fridays, with Rue co-hosting), a free family show/class Aug 29 at the Melrose Center, an improv jam that same night at Stigma Tattoos through the Florida Comedy Collective, and a Sept 26 West End Live show opening for Johnny Pemberton (Fallout, Superstore, Pickle and Peanut). Marching band car wash fundraiser — Tom plugs his niece's Lake Howell Marching Band charity car wash, comparing it to his own high school band fundraiser days, and the group riffs on whether kids doing donation-based fundraisers should just be tipped for playing their instruments instead, plus a jab at cheap oversized "big check" charity photo ops. AI voice-translation app demo — Dan shows off an AI app that translates a video into other languages (French, Mandarin, Swedish) in the speaker's own voice with matching lip movement, demoed using Tom & Dan Cruise 2027 promo clips, sparking discussion of how fast real-time translation tech is advancing. Optimus robot speculation — Riffing on a detail from Tesla's Aug 5 earnings call (robots reportedly getting chips before cars), the hosts imagine owning a humanoid Optimus robot to drive any car and handle housework and yard work, while questioning Elon Musk's track record on self-driving promises. Costa Concordia documentary recap — Tom recaps a Netflix documentary on the 2012 Costa Concordia disaster (the captain's unauthorized close "salute" pass, the reef strike, 32 deaths, his botched response and prison sentence), tying it back to their own upcoming Tom & Dan Cruise announcement. Poop stories and Concrete Mike call — A riff on awkward public-pooping stories (a "poop cruise" documentary, past guests improvising with towels) leads into a call from regular listener "Concrete Mike," who talks about using job-site dumpsters instead of portable toilets, becoming a new grandfather the night before, and hitting his 50th birthday. Aging radio personality tangent — A riff on an old colleague/bit going "full radio" and speculation about the declining health of an unnamed public figure known for hormone-replacement therapy abuse. Grave-niche theft follow-up — Dan describes keeping his parents' and family dog's ashes in an urn box in his wife's office, following up on a prior story about robbers stealing from cemetery niches. Caller: Tom's mom — Tom calls his mom live on air to ask, hypothetically, whether she'd help him commit various crimes (grave robbing, fake pest-control scams, driving a getaway car); she affectionately confirms she'd always back him, contrasted with Aimee's mom, who Aimee says would turn her in. Penn State cocaine ring story — Discussion of a news story about a cocaine trafficking ring run out of two Penn State fraternities, the alleged ringleader facing decades in prison, and a broader riff on drug legalization versus criminalization and treatment-based drug policy. Portland, Oregon tangent — A brief detour recalling an unsettling encounter with an intimidating stranger during a past trip to Portland, comparing its street culture to Orlando's. World's oldest person story — Discussion of the new Guinness World Record holder for oldest living person (a British woman turning 117) and the extraordinary span of history she's lived through — the Great Depression, WWII, the moon landing, the invention of the internet, two pandemics, and the Titanic sinking. Aimee's C-section story — Aimee shares her emergency C-section experience, including the surgical team nicking her breech baby's toe and playing an unwanted song during the procedure, plus a listener's story about a relative's more serious, complicated C-section. Future medicine and tech nostalgia — Closing speculation about longevity advances (cancer vaccines, genetic screening at birth) alongside early-technology nostalgia, including Dan's dad's status-symbol car phone. Show close and plugs — Final recap of Aimee's upcoming shows, a tease that BDM members will hear a special story on Monday's show, and a note that a full Tom & Dan Cruise announcement is coming soon. Key Dates / Plugs Mentioned August 29, 1:30 PM — Aimee LeCours' free family show/class at the Melrose Center (Orange County Library System). August 29, 6:30 PM — Aimee's improv jam at Stigma Tattoos (Downtown Orlando) with the Florida Comedy Collective. September 26 — Aimee LeCours opens for Johnny Pemberton at West End Live. Cannabis is often discussed as either a miracle remedy or a dangerous drug, but the reality is far more nuanced. In this episode, Dr. Jen speaks with naturopathic doctor and cannabinoid researcher Dr. Michelle Sexton about the endocannabinoid system, medical cannabis, chronic pain, sleep, inflammation, menopause, and opioid reduction. They explore why dose, age, product quality, delivery method, and THC potency all matter, how cannabis differs from CBD, and why modern high-potency products are not the same as the cannabis used decades ago. Dr. Sexton also shares practical guidance on starting low, avoiding unnecessary exposure during brain development and pregnancy, and using cannabis as a carefully considered medical tool rather than a one-size-fits-all solution.Dr. Michelle Sexton, ND, is a licensed naturopathic doctor, researcher, author, and internationally recognized expert on cannabinoid pharmacology and the endocannabinoid system. She completed her naturopathic medical training at Bastyr University and an NIH-funded postdoctoral fellowship at the University of Washington, where she studied cannabis, immune function, neuroinflammation, and neurodegeneration. Dr. Sexton has also served as an Assistant Adjunct Professor in the Department of Anesthesiology at UC San Diego and has worked with patients through the university's Center for Integrative Medicine. Her work focuses on translating cannabinoid science into responsible, practical guidance for pain, sleep, inflammation, women's health, and opioid reduction. Patreon is no ads and discounts for DopeyCon: www.patreon.com/dopeypodcast Episode summary Dave opens the Wednesday Dose of Dopey by responding to a listener who noticed he seemed a little off. He talks honestly about the pressure of producing five shows a week, his obsessive pursuit of Jason Mewes, the strange sadness that follows surrender, and what's coming together for DopeyCon. Then JD shares a terrifying story from his twenties: three sleepless days inside a Mississippi trailer with an ounce of cocaine, crack, beer, no food and almost no water. After a massive shot leaves him conscious but completely unable to move, his friend helps bring him back—only for JD to immediately smoke the biggest crack hit of his life. Dave remembers Annie Ellie and Brian “Hot Wheels” Connolly through comments from the Dopey Nation before welcoming back Jed Payne of Church & Other Drugs and Rehab Bromance. Approaching one year sober after years of concealed relapse, Jed talks about going from addiction counselor to treatment patient, sharing a room with former clients, working at a coffee shop with teenagers, and accepting the humiliation required to rebuild his life. He explains how CBD and “microdosing” became the beginning of his return to getting high, why clinicians in recovery need somewhere safe to struggle, and how easily helping addicts can replace doing your own recovery work. Then things get properly Dopey: Jed recalls shooting cocaine while a police officer stood beside the car, injecting a bright-blue ecstasy pill in a gas-station bathroom, boofing two more pills before work, rolling with his hands submerged in marinara sauce, and eventually passing out on the prep table. Jed and Dave also discuss 7-OH, smoke-shop opioids, Sublocade, coming off Suboxone, emotional recovery after relapse, staying present, and the small daily actions he is using to become a man of his word again. All that and STILL MORE on the newest Wednesday Dose of Dopey! Hosted by Simplecast, an AdsWizz company.
