Pierce Ryan is the screenwriter of Black 47 and Standby as well as numerous shorts. In 2018 he took part in the Screen Skills Ireland LA Writers Room Placements. Earlier this year Screen Skills Ireland chose three writers for the LA Writers’ Room placements. The aim of the placements is to provide Irish writers with an opportunity to experience a U.S. TV Writers’ Room. So on today's episode we speak to the person behind the initiative - directer Des Doyle as well as the three writers who took part to hear they're experience of the trip. As part of a drive towards creating a more sustainable production sector, Screen Skills Ireland hosted a one day event about ‘Responsible Production for the Screen Sector in Ireland’. This podcast presents a flavour of the day and focuses on the importance of continuing to improve the culture of the screen sector in Ireland, in order to foster responsible production activity and create more positive and inclusive work environments. One of the key aims of the event was to look at ways in which the sector can positively collaborate to enhance skills development, to foster a more diverse sector, to encourage green film making and ultimately to use improvements in these areas as a competitive advantage for the sector going forward.
