"Take a second to quietly listen and feel the beat in your chest. Listen as your chest rises with every inhalation and falls with every breath. Place your fingers right on the chest line on the left side. Feel your heartbeat [...] Unwavering and tireless, it simply continues to beat on. How does it do this? How does the heart, from 6 weeks after conception to nearly 100 years of life, keep going? It does this because the heart feeds itself first." Abdi Ahmed (doctor in training! and Training extraordinaire!) tells us what he's been up to, and talks about his most recent written piece on the website, "Feed Yourself First". If you like thinking about the crossover between different disciplines, this is a fun one! You can listen to Abdi's piece at the start of the episode or you can read it here: https://www.studioverb.com/blog/feed-yourself-first

"A lot of people criticize those who travel to a new place only to stay glued to their camera the entire time. They argue that you can’t fully experience and understand a place trapped behind a lens. For me, through the lens of my camera is how I am able to take in the textures, sights, and experiences of a place. Through my Lens is a collection from my travels over the years that capture those moments that unequivocally represent that city to me based on my experiences there. This collection represents these cities through my lens. " This is Katie's statement from her photo collection, "Through My Lens", that she showed at the RAW Minneapolis Showcase in May 2018. We talk more with Katie about her childhood and her past with architecture, writing, and photography and we get into the power photography has in telling your own stories and connecting with others'.
