Even going to Jaipur—it was like one of those bumpy roads that we went on yesterday, but for the whole way. Now it's nicer, but it still takes an extra eight hours to go to Karaulī. But going to see Madana-mohana there is a heartfelt experience—to see the devotees and how they love that Deity. Madana-mohana represents attraction to the spiritual world; this is sambandha-jñāna. In many philosophical systems, there is no conception of attraction. There is only renunciation. Dry renunciation of the material world means: "Because I've been victimized again and again by my senses and by the sense objects, I decide that I will cultivate detachment and become free from the tyranny of my senses." Some take it a step further and they say, "Let me have no senses. Let me become nothing." In the concept of Nirvāṇa, as given by some, there is a candle flame; if you blow it out, then there is no candle flame. The idea is that the experience we're having now in this world—that I'm conscious, I'm aware, I love, I hate, I have emotions—is all the process of material nature. It's happenstance. And by my meditation, I'll come to a point of realizing that I'm not that awareness. I'm not anything. I'm not part of the process; I'm not the process; there is no process. There isn't anything, and I'll achieve nothingness. But even that nomenclature is the problem. Consciousness is something you cannot deny, because as soon as you deny, it is an act of consciousness. Therefore, Kṛṣṇa in the Bhagavad-gītā says (BG 3.5): na hi kaścit kṣaṇam api jātu tiṣṭhaty akarma-kṛt kāryate hy avaśaḥ karma sarvaḥ prakṛti-jair guṇaiḥ The soul is always active. We want something, and especially, we want love. So Madana-mohana brings the clarion call to us: "I am your beloved. Here, you can become attracted, and you don't have to fear the loss of our relationship." Prabhupāda tells about how, when we approach Kṛṣṇa—in Deity worship, the arcana process—it is so sweet and personal that sometimes the servitor installs the Deity and worships in such a heartfelt way that the relationship is so "thick." He mentions in a purport that after that servitor passes away, the Deity performs the piṇḍa ceremony for His servitor out of love for the servant. So, when we come to Kṛṣṇa consciousness, we are not left with nothing, or we are not asked to recede into the void. As we say, "namas te sārasvate deve gaura-vāṇī-pracāriṇe"—we are hearing Gaura-vāṇī—"nirviśeṣa-śūnyavādi-pāścātya-deśa-tāriṇe." Śrīla Prabhupāda relieved us of that Where's the entry place? Lord Gauranga's golden form slightly trembled in ecstatic love of Godhead, and His footbells jingled. 3) All the devotees chanted the names Mukunda, Madhava, Yadava and Hari, their mouths being filled with the vibrations. They would announce to the still sleeping people, "You spend your nights uselessly sleeping and your days decorating your bodies! 4) You have achieved such a rare human body, but you do not care for this gift. You remain not serving the darling of Yasoda and slowly fall through your last moments to death. 5) With every rising and setting of the sun, a day passes and is lost. Then, why do you remain idle and not serve the Lord of the heart? 6) This temporary life is full of various miseries. Take shelter of the holy name as your only business. 7) To penetrate the darkness of ignorance and bless everyone's heart, the holy name has risen like the shining sun. 8) Drink the pure nectar of the holy name of Krsna. There is nothing but the name to be had in the fourteen worlds. The Swāmi watched his visitors eat the lunch he had prepared for them, monitoring their progress through their meals and replenishing the preparations as they disappeared from their plates. I took my place beside one of the other guests on the floor, and Janice, the guy helping the Swāmi serve the meal, gave me a plate piled high with food. I had drifted into vegetarianism several years ago, but this looked a lot better than the food I usually ate. I had been experimenting with microbiotic food and often ate at a restaurant called The Paradox on the Lower East Side—a place that I learned a few years later was frequented by Yoko Ono. Microbiotic food was not particularly inspiring for me, and the Swāmi's vegetarian food looked appetizing and exotic. Instead of bland brown rice, zucchini, sesame seeds, and beans, the spread before me consisted of hot dāl made with lentils, vegetables, and fresh herbs; steaming fluffy rice; warm, whole chapatis brushed with a little butter; lightly spiced potatoes; and warm milk with bananas. Suddenly, I was hungry. "Yeah, I'm fine, Swāmi," I said. "How do you like your new place?" It was the first time I had sat with him to talk for some time. "Very nice, very nice—and the temple is nice also." He turned his attention to the man sitting to his left. "Stanley, take, take." He kept handing Stanley warm chapatis. Stanley was nearly six feet tall, gaunt and emaciated-looking, with short black hair, stubble, and sharp, angular features. Yesterday, I had a conversation with Judson Brewer. He's a psychiatrist and a neurologist, and he has written several books. He teaches at Brown University, and in his writings he talks about a “bigger, better offer.” You have to give your mind a bigger, better offer—he calls it a BBO—in order for it to let go of worry and anxiety. So the bigger, better offer we have is the Personality of Godhead. And remember how beautiful Kṛṣṇa is—His form, His pastimes. We heard that in the invocation verse that we sang—yuvatīnāṁ yathā yūni yūnāṁ ca yuvatau yathā | mano 'bhiramate tadvad mano me ramatāṁ tvayi—that's a verse in the Padyāvalī Śrīla Rūpa Gosvāmī wrote, giving this idea of the reflection. He says, 'In this world, we see how boys and girls are naturally attracted to one another.' It's the main power of the material world. This attraction—no one needs to be trained in it. It just is; automatically, one is attracted to the other and vice versa. And there's a way in which he says then, "Now let me be that attracted to You." And he continues that metaphor in the Padyāvalī, saying just as a lover who's waiting for a letter—of course, now it's a text, maybe. But in those days, it was a letter—and he describes how when the letter finally arrives after multiple times checking the mailbox every day and thinking, 'Oh, maybe it's tomorrow,' and finally it comes, that recipient's hands are shaking. He says, 'What will she say?' And then he opens it, and there is a completely consuming experience that person has in reading every word of the letter. 'Oh, what did this mean? Wait a minute, why is the comma here and not there?' He says, 'Let me read Śrīmad-Bhāgavatam like this. Let that be my experience.' Because ultimately, the Śrīmad-Bhāgavatam is a love letter from the spiritual world. In fact, there are several letters we find: Rukmiṇī's letter to Kṛṣṇa. She says, "Kṛṣṇa, You marry me—if You don't marry me, then I'll just perform severe austerities until this body withers. And then I'll do it again in the next lives. I'll just perform severe austerities until You accept me." And then we have the letters that Kṛṣṇa sends to His parents and the gopīs in Vṛndāvana, explaining why He didn't come back right away, because when He left Vṛndāvana, He told them, "I'll be right back." So the Śrīmad-Bhāgavatam takes us right to the reality. In fact, it begins by saying that this is reality distinguished from illusion for the welfare of all. So it is that reality. It's the loving exchanges that the devotees have with Kṛṣṇa in the spiritual world. So we come to Vṛndāvana to feel... A new Office of Personnel Management hub for shared human resources services is open for business, the agency announced Tuesday. In a memo to federal agency leaders, OPM Director Scott Kupor said the HR Shared Service Center aims to “reduce fragmentation” within the government and allow agency staff to focus on their mission rather than administrative work. Per the memo, that new center provides a “comprehensive” suite of functions, such as benefits management, payroll administration, performance management, recruitment, training, and workforce planning. Using those services is voluntary for agencies and is a fee-for-service model. At least eight federal entities have already indicated they will make the transition, per the memo. Those include the Department of Housing and Urban Development, the Office of Government Ethics, and the Consumer Financial Protection Bureau. The announcement is the latest development in the Trump administration's broader push to consolidate HR services across the government. That plan, called “Federal HR 2.0,” aims to create a single personnel management platform for the federal government as a way to save money and reduce duplicative systems. The Federal Aviation Administration is gathering information from potential private-sector partners to inform the buildout of its defenses against cyber and quantum threats, according to documents published this month. The cybersecurity-focused market survey and quantum-related request for information are targeting the systems at the core of the Department of Transportation component's multiyear, multibillion dollar modernization initiative: the National Airspace System and Air Traffic Control. The FAA is looking for vendors that could improve its information security and operations, such as penetration testing, vulnerability evaluations and incident response coordination among other tasks. The scope of the project also includes assessing the current NAS cybersecurity posture to identify capability gaps, test emerging tech tools and recommend improvements. The DOT component is also planning to move its NAS, ATC and IT systems infrastructure to post-quantum cryptography, a concept centered around mitigating attacks from future quantum computers by adopting new encryption methods. “Without quantum‑resistant, crypto‑agile security, the NAS cannot achieve the reliability, performance, or international leadership required in the decades ahead,” the FAA said in its RFI published last week. “FAA therefore views PQC not as a compliance exercise, but as a foundational enabler of modernization — one that must be embedded into every vendor solution, every system upgrade, and every step of the Brand New Air Traffic Control System.” The Daily Scoop Podcast is available every Monday-Friday afternoon. Recently, Nirākulā, my wife, and I have been getting our affairs in order—trying to make sure that we don't have any extra stuff (because things pile up) and making sure that every paper we have is accounted for: all the accounts and everything like that. And there are a lot of papers. Looking through the papers, I came across a file full of warranties for various appliances, from small to large. Every one of them had some kind of guarantee, at least for some time. Most of them have run out. But there is one we can't find anywhere. We looked in the attic and the godown. We went through the glove boxes in our car and—you know those drawers that have a combination of many different kinds of papers and you're not sure? We went through those too, and we couldn't find a contract that guaranteed how long we were going to stay in this body. Apparently, we didn't get one. At least, my parents didn't tell me about it. In the Bhagavad-gītā, Kṛṣṇa describes how this human life is temporary but very useful. In fact, that's also in the Śrīmad-Bhāgavatam—a famous verse spoken by the avadhūta brāhmaṇa who lived in the wilderness (which is not a bad idea; nobody can bug you out there). He met with King Yadu, who was traveling with his retinue. When the King interviewed the avadhūta brāhmaṇa, he could understand that this was a self-realized person. He asked him how he became self-realized, and the brāhmaṇa said, "I have twenty-four gurus. They are here with me." King Yadu looked around and said, "I don't see anybody here." Then the brāhmaṇa began to enunciate the various gurus that he followed, starting with the mountain. It was tolerant; although it was smashed by lightning bolts and clouds poured water, it still stood firm and yet provided crystal-clear water and minerals to everybody. The tree was mentioned, and many other entities, both moving and inert. Then he gave this famous verse, which I've heard many times from many speakers on the Bhāgavatam, and which Śrīla Prabhupāda quoted frequently as well (SB 11.9.29): labdhvā su-durlabham idaṁ bahu-sambhavānte mānuṣyam artha-dam anityam apīha dhīraḥ tūrṇaṁ yateta na pated anu-mṛtyu yāvan niḥśreyasāya viṣayaḥ khalu sarvataḥ syāt At the very end of the verse, syāt means something is coming up. What is available or what is coming? He said viṣayaḥ—sense gratification. Sarvataḥ—where is sense gratification? Everywhere. It's available to everyone, including little critters like the salamanders, the frogs, and the fish; they all have access to sense gratification. So, what the Avanti Brāhmaṇa was pointing out is that it's not a big deal. Because if salamanders and frogs can get it for free, why should you work so hard for it? The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention launched a strategy and guidance for use of artificial intelligence on Thursday, setting a direction for the agency's own work and providing resources for public health officials across the country. Those documents point to a desire to promote adoption of the technology, empower the workforce to use it, and ensure the tools are governed properly. But, more uniquely, the publications encourage the use of “agentic” or “deep research” AI uses — those that can autonomously carry out specific tasks — which CDC is already tapping into. Almost 10% of CDC's roughly 100 AI use cases were agentic tools in 2025, according to the Department of Health and Human Services' recently reported AI use case inventory. Its share of agentic uses makes up roughly a third of such deployments across the department. As a result, the CDC's new strategy includes specific language to leverage that technology to support public health, strengthen research and data management, and improve access to data. And simultaneously, the agency released specific guidance for state, tribal, local and territorial (STLT) public health authorities on the use of AI agents for research based on experiences from its own exploration. The White House is launching a task force aimed at eliminating fraud in federally run programs — a goal that will be pursued largely through beefed-up data-sharing processes. The executive order signed Monday by President Donald Trump is framed through the lens of various fraud cases in Minnesota involving Medicaid, a Department of Agriculture child nutrition program and Small Business Administration loan programs during the COVID-19 pandemic. Investigations into the alleged fraud began under the Biden administration's Department of Justice, but the scandal has since been wielded by the Trump White House to freeze funds and strip away benefits from residents of the Gopher State. Under Trump's new order, the task force will be charged with developing a national strategy to combat fraud in federal benefit programs. The EO calls specifically for new measures to improve eligibility verification processes and create controls to prevent the disbursal of improper payments. The task force will also be required to “promote the facilitation of information and data sharing and coordination between State, local, tribal, and territorial governments and the Federal Government, and benefit-providing agencies and law enforcement agencies,” per the order. Interagency data-sharing would additionally be prioritized as part of an overarching enforcement push aimed at disrupting and dismantling “fraud networks and facilitators,” the EO states. The first hour traces the long arc of international currency history, from the invention of coinage in ancient Lydia through the monetary innovations of Athens, Rome, and the Byzantine Empire, to Renaissance Florence, where a city-state with no navy and no silver mines managed to make its currency the dominant medium of exchange in Europe. The hour closes with a discussion about the Dutch Republic's revolutionary contributions to modern money and finance, and the Spanish silver dollar—the first truly global currency, which circulated from the New World to China and remained legal tender in the United States until the eve of the Civil War. The second hour examines Britain's emergence as the world's first modern financial superpower, whose decline opened the door to the internationalization of the US dollar, and the role that figures like Paul Warburg, the Federal Reserve, two World Wars, and the Bretton Woods Agreement each played in establishing dollar dominance—further cemented by the breakdown of Bretton Woods and the era of floating fiat currencies. They then turn to the present, examining what Eichengreen sees as the two most serious threats to the dollar's continued preeminence: the erosion of the rule of law and separation of powers inside the United States, and the fraying of the alliance relationships that underpin global confidence in dollar-denominated assets. They close with a discussion about whether stablecoins could extend the dollar's network effects, why the Euro and the Chinese renminbi fall short as credible alternatives, and what a world without a reliable global reserve currency could mean for international trade, finance, and geopolitical stability. The Bhāgavatam further says, sa vai puṁsāṁ paro dharmo yato bhaktir adhokṣaje: the supreme religion is that which teaches its followers how to love the Supreme Personality of Godhead, who is beyond the reach of experimental knowledge. Such a religious system begins with tan-nāma-grahaṇa, chanting of the holy name of the Lord (śravaṇaṁ kīrtanaṁ viṣṇoḥ smaraṇaṁ pāda-sevanam). After chanting the holy name of the Lord and dancing in ecstasy, one gradually sees the form of the Lord, the pastimes of the Lord and the transcendental qualities of the Lord. This way one fully understands the situation of the Personality of Godhead. One can come to this understanding of the Lord, how He descends into the material world, how He takes His births and what activities He performs, but one can know this only by executing devotional service. The Army has awarded a mega contract to Anduril Industries that the U.S. military hopes will boost its ability to defeat drone threats. The Pentagon unveiled the $20 billion firm fixed-price deal Friday evening as part of its daily list of contract announcements. That announcement addressed the types of technologies involved, but was scant on details about the mission areas the capabilities would be applied toward. Under the agreement, Anduril will “consolidate current and future commercial solutions — including the proprietary, open-architecture, AI-enabled Lattice suite, integrated hardware, data, computer infrastructure, and technical support services — into a unified, mission-ready capability supporting the Army's evolving operational and business needs. Work locations and funding will be determined with each order, with an estimated completion date of March 12, 2036,” according to the contract announcement. A separate news release from the Army-led Joint Interagency Task Force 401 — which is focused on strengthening the U.S. government's drone defenses overseas and stateside — about the contract stated that the organization has “championed a groundbreaking enterprise-level agreement to provide a cutting-edge command-and-control solution through a strategic action.” Defense contractors are in the throes of becoming compliant with Cybersecurity Maturity Model Certification standards. And now, in response to findings from the Government Accountability Office, a senior Pentagon official said the department plans to evaluate and define outside variables that could hinder the defense industry's ability to comply with new standards set by the Cybersecurity Maturity Model Certification 2.0 model. According to a study published by the GAO last Thursday, the Defense Department has done significant work to build a comprehensive strategy for implementing CMMC 2.0 cybersecurity standards. However, the report found that the department has yet to completely identify factors beyond its control that risk the program's overall success. “CMMC planning documentation identifies processes that can help address external factors, including a program waiver process,” the report stated. “However, CMMC planning documentation does not systematically identify the external factors that could affect reaching each goal.” The Daily Scoop Podcast is available every Monday-Friday afternoon.
