Question: What is so special about reading together in the association of devotees? Excerpt from the answer: It is because it pleases Kṛṣṇa. In fact, there's a verse from Bhāgavatam (SB 11.3.31) that explains the phenomenon. It says: smarantaḥ smārayantaś ca mitho 'ghaugha-haraṁ harim bhaktyā sañjātayā bhaktyā bibhraty utpulakāṁ tanum The first line, smarantaḥ smārayantaś ca, says "those who come together to remember Kṛṣṇa and cause other people to remember Kṛṣṇa." Mitho means "to meet together," and thus mitho 'ghaugha-haraṁ harim refers to that assembly where people are reminding one another and remembering Kṛṣṇa together. Agha means sin, like the demon Aghāsura, and aghaugha-haraṁ signifies that the huge warehouses of horrible sinful reactions are destroyed in that assembly when you are speaking about and reminding one another of Kṛṣṇa. The last line bibhraty utpulakāṁ tanum, says then in that assembly, by reminding others and remembering Kṛṣṇa together, because it pleases Kṛṣṇa, your body starts to feel ecstasy. Your sins are all destroyed, and you start to feel ecstasy, and your bodily hair stand on end and things like that. What's more, the third line 'bhaktyā sañjātayā bhaktyā' says you transfer yourself from sādhana-bhakti to rāga-bhakti. You move from one kind of bhakti to another. How ? In the assembly reminding one another about Kṛṣṇa. (Not evil, just really  poorly written.)  Finally, we learn why Tipper Gore felt it was SO important we have warning labels on music.  (Hint, it was so parents didn't need to talk to their kids.) Joseph and Alper dive into one of the most unsettling sexual assault decisions to come out of the Supreme Court of Canada in years: **R. v. Rioux, 2025 SCC 34**, released the very day they hit record. Still hot off the printer, the judgment sends Joseph's blood pressure through the roof as he and Alper give their **raw, first reaction** to a 5–4 split decision that effectively rewrites how courts treat **consent, capacity, blackouts, and memory loss** in sexual assault trials. They walk through the core facts, then zero in on the majority's treatment of **blackout and memory loss as circumstantial evidence of incapacity**, and the idea that a complainant's *beliefs and assumptions* about how they “would have acted” can stand in for an actual memory of events. Along the way, they unpack the difference between **actus reus and mens rea**, explain why the distinction between **direct and circumstantial evidence** is being stretched to absurdity, and highlight how this reasoning risks turning ordinary adult sexual behaviour especially where alcohol is involved into a legal minefield. From Vegas blackout marriages to the realities of human behaviour after a few drinks, Joseph and Alper argue this ruling is **“ripe for abuse”** and dangerously divorced from common sense. We'll talk tonight about the legacy that we have inherited and the ways in which we can carry it forward to other people. If you look around here today, you'll see that these are rare souls in the room, because we are in the midst of the saṅkīrtana movement. Somehow or other, we have been given this opportunity together to carry on the service that Śrīla Prabhupāda got from his spiritual master, and it goes all the way back to Kṛṣṇa. So, the service itself is a high sādhana that connects us to Kṛṣṇa most directly. What's more, it's the purpose of the creation. That's what Kṛṣṇa has in mind every time Mahā Viṣṇu exhales: yasyaika-niśvasita-kālam athāvalambya jīvanti loma-vilajā jagad-aṇḍa-nāthāḥ viṣṇur mahān sa iha yasya kalā-viśeṣo govindam ādi-puruṣaṁ tam ahaṁ bhajāmi (Brahma-saṁhitā 5.48) All the universes manifest, and then Kṛṣṇa reminds everyone where they left off in the last creation so they can start up again. But His underlying purpose in manifesting the world is to give every soul a chance to turn back towards him in the spiritual world and be happy. He says in the Bhagavad Gītā that those who take up the work of helping turn people back towards him are the most dear to him. Any spiritual practice that brings us closer to God, because it's a practice that's dear to him, is the most direct and the most important. So, book distribution is not a P.R. event. It's not a quaint activity that was meant for another era. Rather, it's a high sādhana that connects each one of us, not only to Prabhupāda, but also to Kṛṣṇa. And it was Śrīla Prabhupāda's mode, as he expressed it himself, that he picked up the mood of his spiritual master and he carried it forward. All the devotees, due to great ecstasy, repeatedly dance to their hearts content. 3) All the people of the universe become maddened upon entering this intoxicating shower of nectar. Some people cry, some dance and others become fully intoxicated within their minds. 4) Lord Siva, embracing Narada Muni, repeatedly makes loud screams of ecstatic joy, and Lord Brahma, dancing very ecstatically, says, “All of you kindly chant, Haribol! Haribol!” 5) In great happiness the thousand-faced Ananta Sesa chants “Hari! Hari!” By the influence of the transcendental vibration of the holy name, the whole universe becomes ecstatically maddened and everyone tastes the mellows of the holy name. 6) Thakura Bhaktivinoda, the humble servant of the Lord, says, “The holy name of Krishna has fulfilled all my desires by vibrating on everyone's tongue.” Bhaktivinoda therefore prays at the feet of Sri Rupa Goswami that the chanting of harinam may continue like this always. Have you ever walked out of your āśrama and had somebody come up to you and say, "You look tired"? Have you ever had that? How do you feel after that? You go to the mirror and you're looking like, "Yeah, maybe I do look tired." All day long you're thinking about it, and you go home and say, "Hey, do I look tired?" They are like, "Yeah, you look tired." Like, "Oh." Or what if somebody comes up to you and they go, "You look terrible"? How do you feel? Yeah. Then you go to other people, "How do I look to you?" We are very protective of our, or deliberate about the way we present ourselves to the world. And everybody wants to look all spruced up when they go out and meet people. They don't like it if somebody says, "Oh, you look tired, you look sick, you look terrible." And all of these affect the consciousness of the person, as soon as somebody observes that, whether it's true or not. What's really true is they're spiritual, and they do have a secret, which is that they're eternal servant of Kṛṣṇa; they have just forgotten it. So if you make the statement, then ask the question, there's a chemical reaction, just like epoxy glue. When I was a kid, there used to be two tubes, because it wasn't like Super Glue, where you just do one thing and it sticks together. It always annoyed me as a kid; I would tell my father, "Why do they have to have two tubes?" Because when they mix together, that's when there's a chemical reaction, and then it becomes a solid on a molecular level, it holds the thing together. So these two things go together, and what are they? Audience: You look spiritual, what is your secret? And if you just walk up to people all day long and said, "Excuse me, you look spiritual. What's your secret?" I guarantee you will sell tons of books, because people are in a state of self-realization when you ask these two questions, and when you hand the book over, they'll remember, "I'm spirit soul."
