Welcome to the Thinking Room podcast. Talking is not something we do very easily as men but in an ever changing world that is becoming increasingly dominated by secular conversations, four Christian men are daring to talk about their faith again and be real and honest about the challenges they face…
Men's ministry - a classic church activity or an outdated idea that is no longer relevant or needed? Is it still important for Christian men to gather as men, to be just men or is that wide of the mark of what modern men want or need from their church? We give our views on past experiences on everything from large scale men's conferences to curry nights and small groups and share our thoughts on what is the best way for men to grow spiritually, both personally and collectively.
Money - we all need and we all want more of it! What's the right way to think about it as a Christian though? Does God really call us to a life of poverty? Or does he actually want us all to be rich? The only way to find out is to put your money where your mouth is! Or is it? Are our ideas prejudiced by certain church experiences are they formed out of a faithful and healthy relationship with God? And at the end of the day, does it really matter? There's many sermons and books been written that seek to deliver a definitive answer but what does the man on the street think? And how does it affect the way live? The everyman podcast for Christian men is here to help. Listen now to find out what we make of it all, and how much we give, or don't!
This month we address the often unspoken but divisive topic of drinking and enjoying alcohol. For many Christians it is something we may have a quiet conviction about but struggle to live by. Or we may not be sure what we believe at all. It is not something churches or leaders often teach on. It’s an everyday life issue but nothing crystallises the challenge like a good old stag do! And there’s many other challenges that come with it. We delve into our past experiences to discuss what they have taught us and whether our opinions on drinking have changed or evolved as we’ve got older.
In this episode we turn our attention to the very volatile and uncertain political climate that we face in the world today. All over the globe politics is changing and has a direct effect on our daily lives but what is the correct response for us as Christians? Should we engage in the debate or should we let politicians just get on with their job? Politics is a bit of a dirty word but are we neglecting our responsibilities to lead in all areas of life or is it more peaceful for us to take a back seat? Whether we choose to engage or not, it's worth thinking about.
Have you ever been in a situation where someone asks you about your faith and you’d love to respond and tell them all about Jesus but deep down you’re scared of being laughed at, stereotyped as a religious fanatic or just completely dismissed? Or do you like to go all out whenever the opportunity arises, preaching your faith with such conviction that you convert non-believers there on the spot, leading them to Christ in front of the whole pub, laying hands and casting out sickness as you go? Or does saying the sinners prayer with someone just make you cringe and wish Christians would just tone things down and act more normal? Well the thinking room is here to help, giving you room to think about the things that matter most to us as men. This month we’re talking about the non Christians in our life and how we share the gospel. How do we feel about it, and how do we navigate the great commission to go out and disciple all nations in what is increasingly becoming a more and more secular society?
This month we turn our attention to out personal and spiritual growth, discussing the way we fit prayer, reading and time alone with God into our busy lives. But before we go there, it is a given that this is something we all try to do? Why is the spiritual pursuit of God so important? Why is a basic faith and understanding of Christ not enough? Join us as we learn from and inspire each other to not only become better at making time with God but also understanding why it is so important to us establishing ourselves as godly men.
