A teacher who “pulled a sickie” to attend a stag do in Portugal, lied about illness, and later ripped pages from his passport to cover his tracks has avoided a teaching ban - but should he have? This week on Points of View, we ask what this case says about trust, professionalism and pressure in teaching. We'll also debate flexible working in education. Should schools be more open to flexible leave and personal requests to help retain staff and improve wellbeing? Or are schools already under too much pressure, with staffing shortages making flexibility difficult and unfair on colleagues left to cover? On the panel: Dave Brown, Rae Whitehouse, Lucy Trimnell.
DMV Hoops Podcast – Episode 105
Ask The Angel With Rachel Corpus with Rachel Corpus Quantum Leaping, Spiritual Sovereignty, and Remembering the Power of Source Rachel Corpus Opens Ask the Angel In this episode of Ask the Angel, host Rachel Corpus welcomes listeners into a conversation about quantum leaping, spiritual connection, and the idea that human beings can shift their experience by remembering their connection to Source. Rachel explains that while she comes from a religious background and is a pastor, she now uses the word Source to describe a larger, loving divine reality beyond the limits of man-made religious structures. She frames the episode around the belief that people arrive on Earth with spiritual amnesia, and that part of life's purpose is remembering one's divinity, autonomy, and connection to something greater. Oracle Cards, Pleasure, and Choosing a Higher Frequency Before teaching about quantum leaping, Rachel pulls oracle cards and shares angelic messages connected to joy, pleasure, trust, and thriving. One card carries the message, “My life is deliciously joyous,” which Rachel interprets as an invitation to accept life as a student of Earth without becoming passive or bypassing pain. She explains that joy, peace, love, and other frequencies are always available, but people often experience only the frequencies they focus on. Using Mother's Day as an example, she describes how expectations once made the day stressful, but later she learned to release control and access a more peaceful frequency. The Stag, Trust, and Thriving Beyond Survival Rachel also pulls the stag card, which carries the message “trust and thrive.” She explains that the stag represents strength, sovereignty, and the choice to stand firmly in one's own ownership rather than becoming absorbed by surrounding survival energy. Rachel says Earth contains lower frequencies not because it is bad, but because it is a classroom where souls come to expand. The message is that people may feel surrounded by survival-based fears about money, safety, timing, or uncertainty, but they do not have to make those fears part of their own story. Lotus Calls In About a New Timeline Rachel's first caller, Lotus, asks about quantum leaping into a timeline where she sees herself and her family living in a beautiful home in the mountains, surrounded by trees. Lotus explains that she feels she is revisiting a heart's wish from her younger years, when she imagined one day having a family and living in New England. Rachel describes Lotus as someone stepping out of the “mapped grid” and recreating a new way to live. She sees trees that already know Lotus and says the move feels spirit-led, sustainable, and connected to a chosen community. Rachel also tells Lotus that challenges are part of the process, and Lotus agrees that the unfolding would not be as meaningful or fun if everything happened instantly and without obstacles. Quantum Leaping as Science, Magic, and Spiritual Practice Rachel then explains quantum leaping by blending simple scientific imagery with spiritual interpretation. She describes electrons as tiny particles that can move between energy states without traveling through every point in between, comparing them to frogs jumping between lily pads. She then applies that metaphor to human beings, saying the challenge is that people are made of countless particles and must bring those inner particles into alignment before leaping. Rachel presents quantum leaping as a blend of science, energy, mysticism, universal law, and spiritual intention, arguing that what older science might call impossible becomes possible when consciousness, vibration, and divine connection are included. Water, Sound, and Establishing a Vibrational Baseline One of Rachel's main practices involves using water as a tool for remembering connection. She says the water in the body is linked with all water everywhere and holds memory of the universe. By blessing water and asking it to remind every particle in the body to resonate with a chosen frequency, such as peace, a person can begin preparing the inner field for a leap. Rachel also recommends using sound, singing, humming, light language, or musical instruments to call the body's particles into alignment. The purpose is not to force a future into existence, but to remember one's own divine baseline before attempting to move into a new reality. The 917604 Code and Quantum Leap Practices Rachel introduces the Grabovoi code 917604 as a number she associates with travel, completion, creation, divine alignment, heart-centered prosperity, grounded wealth, and potential. She teaches several methods for working with the code, including holding the hands open, naming a destination or desired timeline, repeating the number aloud, journaling with the statement “I quantum leap into my new reality where I am…”, and using the code as a “key, frequency, and password.” She also describes a breathing practice in which listeners inhale with 917 and exhale with 604 while looking out a window, allowing the body to focus without overthinking. Mirrors, Past Timelines, and Future Timelines Rachel also discusses mirror work, suggesting that a person can use a familiar mirror as a kind of portal by speaking a leap aloud and naming the timeline they are entering. She says people can also quantum leap backward into childhood, a past relationship, or even a past life for the purpose of healing, though she does not recommend trying to live in a past timeline. Instead, going backward should be used to retrieve wisdom, release blocked energy, and heal old patterns. Moving forward, by contrast, can be used to enter a new timeline while trusting that the learning will continue wherever the person arrives. Closing Thoughts on Timelines, Media, and Spiritual Freedom Rachel closes by saying that quantum leaping is something spirit has always known how to do, and that reclaiming it is part of reclaiming worthiness and sovereignty. She says next week's episode will continue the discussion by focusing on timelines and how they can be merged. Before signing off, she recommends the movie Backrooms, describing it as scary but relevant to the themes of reality, struggle, and how people create spaces through consciousness. She ends by inviting listeners to find her at RachelCorpus.com, on social media, and on YouTube, closing with her familiar encouragement to keep their halos straight.

Welcome back to Funny But Foul with your hosts Arman and Hector — two guys trying to understand the world while also making it significantly worse. This episode starts with the Iran war and inflation, which somehow turned into a conversation about why a combo meal now costs the same as a car payment. Hector says we're one bad news headline away from paying monthly financing on eggs, while Arman explains how every world conflict somehow ends with Canadians paying $14 for strawberries. The conclusion? Nobody understands geopolitics, but everybody understands suffering at the gas pump. Then the boys get into stag trip stories — the type of trips where one guy loses his wallet, another guy loses his relationship, and somebody always thinks jumping off a balcony into a pool is “a calculated risk.” Hector argues that bachelor trips are basically adult daycare with alcohol, while Arman points out that every stag has at least one guy acting like he's in The Hangover despite being 34 with lower back pain. The fake ID conversation spirals into memories of underage confidence levels that made absolutely no sense. The hosts joke about being 17 years old walking into clubs dressed like divorced businessmen, thinking a fake beard and a leather jacket would fool security. Hector says fake IDs taught an entire generation how to lie under pressure better than school ever did.Things take a weird philosophical turn when DMT comes up. Instead of pretending to be spiritual gurus, the hosts mostly joke about how people come back from one trip acting like they personally negotiated peace with the universe. Arman says every guy after a psychedelic experience suddenly talks slower and starts saying things like, “Bro… time isn't even real.” Hector responds by saying rent is very real and due on the first. The episode closes with AI hype vs gold rush comparisons. Arman thinks AI is the biggest opportunity since the internet, while Hector believes half the people saying “AI” in meetings are just trying not to get fired. The hosts compare modern tech culture to the old gold rush: a few people will get rich, most people will panic-buy shovels, and somebody's cousin will launch a terrible startup called “ChatBroGPT.”By the end of the episode, the conclusion is simple: the world feels unstable, nobody knows what's happening, and somehow the only thing keeping society together is memes, caffeine, and pretending we're all mentally fine. We're continuing our celebration of the 50th anniversary of the legendary Judgment of Paris Tasting, that 1976 blind showdown where California wines stunned the French establishment and changed wine history forever. We're revisiting an interview Mary Orlin did with the late Warren Winiarski, the visionary winemaker behind the 1973 Stag's Leap Wine Cellars Cabernet Sauvignon that shocked the judges when it was ranked above some of the most revered Bordeaux in the world. We'll talk about how the wine came to be, what the victory meant in the moment and how it helped reshape the future of the Napa Valley and the global wine conversation. You'll hear Warren's own words on tape from an interview 10 years ago on the occasion of the Paris Tasting's 40th anniversary.

Hosted on Acast.

Million Dollar Secret Season 2 Premiere Week Recap Million Dollar Secret returns with the start of Season 2, and hosts Rob Cesternino, Chappell, and Brian Scally are ready to dive into the first three episodes of gameplay. As fourteen new contestants check in at the Stag and face a fresh set of challenges, the trio discusses everything from early strategy stumbles to entertaining cast dynamics. This first batch of episodes introduces new faces, familiar catchphrases, and a game full of secrets—and it doesn't take long for things to get social and chaotic. The episode dives straight into how new players handle the pressure of the million-dollar briefcase. Rob Cesternino questions the risk of taking on millionaire missions, with Chappell and Brian Scally dissecting why some opt out and how clues narrow suspicious eyes. The group relives the saga of Alti, whose repeated use of “no cap” paints a target on his back, while strategic slip-ups from others stir early conflict. Dynamics shift quickly, with alliances forming, showmances budding, and strong personalities—like Daisy and Natalie—standing out as both social threats and lightning rods for drama. The trio also breaks down iconic missions (from hats to handstands) and the complicated dance of sharing or hiding clues, paying close attention to when players choose to blend in—or stand out. Highlights from this discussion include: The struggles of Alti's “no cap” agenda and how obvious secret missions put contestants at risk. Players debating whether to complete a risky millionaire task or play it safe, and what happens when clues get too revealing. Daisy's memorable confrontations and her mix of warmth and willingness to go toe-to-toe when challenged. Strategic conversations around when to share clues, build alliances, or keep information close. Nicola Toki and Jesse discuss the Moehau stag beetle as this week's critter of the week. These beetles measure between 2.1 to 2.7 cm, with males reaching 2.7 cm while the females top out at 2.3 cm. They are black in colour, which can be glossy or dull. Their exoskeleton has tiny indentations which makes them appear pitted.

This episode is not about central PA...but it does have an excellent interview at a pioneering craft distillery that makes one of my favorite American Single Malt whiskies, and some great beer content, so stick around! Back in October, while I was doing my Midwest tour in support of my new book (American Whiskey Master Class, get your signed copy here!), I visited Cedar Ridge Distillery outside of Iowa City, and interviewed distillery president Jamie Siefert and marketing director Megan Patz. We talked about the history of the place, why they distill their bourbon as wash, in pot stills (and use a mash filter to get there), and about that American single malt of theirs, The Quintessential (which is half of What I'm Drinking Today). Then we swing up into the cab of a satellite-guided John Deere combine at Whiskey Acres distillery, and talk to farmer-distiller Jamie Walter about heirloom and new strains of corn. I'll take you to a spirits competition I judged in Richmond last month, the First Landing Cup, then head up the Shenandoah Valley to visit Mt. Defiance Distillery & Cidery to get some tasting (and some comeuppance), pick up some cheese at George's Mill Farm, and visit an estate brewery where they grow their own grain and brew some exquisite lagers, Wheatland Spring Farm & Brewery. I wind that trip up with a stop at Cushwa Brewing and Rad Pies in Williamsport, MD for lunch: IPA and The Rickeroni! What I'm Drinking Today is a STAG first: I had a boilermaker! I started with a snort of Cedar Ridge The Quintessential single malt, chased by a Wheatland Spring Depart triticale lager. Wham BAM drinking! The Smack Dab In The Centre segment takes you way out on the western edge of Happy Valley territory, to Philipsburg! Bridget, Caitlin, and HIlda wrap up part 2 of "Hollow," book 1 in Caroline Peckham and Suzanne Valenti's Crown of Hearts & Chaos series. And here's the truth: They recorded this episode like 3 weeks ago, and now Hilda can't remember what happened in the episode or the book, so she's just rawdogging this summary and going to listen to the episode right now to find out what happens. And you should too. Join our Patreon for exclusive behind-the-scenes content and let's be friends!Instagram > @Booktokmademe_podTikTok > @BooktokMadeMe
My grandfather bought a nail file in Kane, PA almost 100 years ago. I still have it...but I'd never been to Kane. Turns out I really should have! Kane, "the star in the forest," is another small central PA town that punches above its weight. There's the iconic Texas Hot Lunch (I interviewed owner Mike Bechakas, and had two of his very, very good Texas Hots), two distilleries, two wineries, a drive-in theater, a great coffee shop, a famously good butcher shop, a wonderful restaurant and a cut-above pizza place...and that's just the usual STAG stuff, there's the whole Allegheny National Forest right there! You know I'm kind of obsessed with the whole Texas Hot/Coney Island hot dog thing. Well, to prepare for my interview with Mike, I dove deep into the internet, and found a guy who's even more obsessed...and he's gone way down that rabbit hole and come back with some great history. Check it out here! There's still mystery to it, but this answers a lot of questions. There was so much, I did something I've never done before: I interviewed the town's mayor. Brandy Schimp is in her 9th year as mayor of Kane -- she was the Pennsylvania Mayor of the Year in 2024! -- and she did indeed have her finger on the pulse. She actually dragged in a colleague to the interview, so you get a twofer: Kate Kennedy, who's the director of the Kane Area Development Center. They're both Kane natives, and they were very fun to talk to. I went out to the Kinzua Bridge State Park and saw the cast-down remains of the mighty railroad trestle, and the skywalk they've made of what's left. Very cool, and even though the skywalk is under renovation right now (it's going to be open for leaf-peeping in the fall), the view and the visitor center is worth a visit. Back home, I've got a plug for Riversongs, the annual fundraiser for environmental education here in beautiful downtown Millheim. Since it is Millheim, there's live music from two bands, a raffle, and plenty of good beer. Come on out on March 29th! What I'm Drinking Today is the incredibly crisp and refreshing Allagash House Beer, which my old friend and new book collaborator Em Sauter brought me when she visited last week to work on our new book project. The Smack Dab In The Centre segment is about the wonderfulness of hanging out by a firepit, because it's that time again! I note three Centre County spots where you can do that. Next episode will be...something. Look, I have something really good lined up for four weeks from now, but I'm still looking for something for the next episode. I'm working on it. So...see you in two weeks! Until then? TELL YOUR FRIENDS ABOUT THE PODCAST! Seen Through A Glass is sponsored by the Happy Valley Adventure Bureau. Come visit Centre County! JE Wilds joins the podcast to talk about building a life around adventure, storytelling, and documenting the wild. From picking up his first camera in 2007 to filming remote backcountry hunts and wildlife encounters around New Zealand and beyond, Joe has spent years creating authentic outdoor stories that resonate with people who love nature, travel and the pursuit of meaningful experiences. In this conversation we dive into the mindset behind filming your own adventures, staying present in the moment while behind the camera, and why the story matters far more than the trophy. We also talk about solo missions into wild places, the philosophy behind targeting older animals, the realities of creating outdoor content for YouTube, and how the landscape of adventure storytelling has evolved over the years. This episode is about much more than hunting - it's about creativity, passion, nature, and building a life around the things that make you feel alive. In 1976, nine French wine judges did the unthinkable: they blindly selected two California wines over France's most elite vintages in what became known as the Judgment of Paris. This shocking upset sent shockwaves through the wine world and forever changed the global industry. French wine had dominated for centuries, built on a rigid classification system and prestigious terroir, but California winemakers like Warren Winiarski of Stag's Leap and Mike Grgich of Chateau Montelena proved that world-class wines could be produced anywhere with the right combination of climate, soil, and expertise. The tasting was organized by British expat Steven Spurrier, who ran a Paris wine shop and saw the American Bicentennial as a perfect marketing opportunity—but neither he nor the lone reporter in attendance, George Taber of Time magazine, expected California to actually win. Today's guest is Kevin Ferguson, author and grandson of legendary winemaker Mario Gemello, who ran the Gemello Winery in Mountain View, California for nearly half a century. Ferguson shares the immigrant roots of California's wine industry, including how a $190 loan from the Beltramo family allowed his great-grandfather to bring his family from Piedmont, Italy to America. He discusses the legacy of working-class winemakers like his grandfather, whose 1970 Cabernet finished first in the 25th anniversary re-enactment of the Judgment of Paris, and explores how wineries like Ridge—founded by retired SRI engineers—brought scientific precision to the Santa Cruz Mountains. As we approach the 50th anniversary events in 2026, Ferguson reveals how this single tasting transformed California from an upstart curiosity into a world-class wine region that continues to rival the best of France.See omnystudio.com/listener for privacy information.
This week, the queen is having a banquet with some of the most influential families in the land. Can we use our political manipulations to see the right families in favour, or will they end up in disgrace? Highlights include: - Every good episode starts with an apology... - The best strategy is 'winning...' - I get challenged by a 4 year old... - Is it a butterfly or a moth? - Stag rhymes with slag... - Who wants to join the moth party? - Prepare for negative toadage... - It's shafting, but friendly shafting... - We had to speed run the ending because Florence woke up... - Problemato is the worst flavour of soup... - Wait, is it nobles, or... whores?

Juan Muñoz-Oca, Estates Director & COO for Marchesi Antinori USA, reflects on stewardship, sustainability, and evolving the identity of the iconic Stag's Leap Wine Cellars in the heart of California wine country. He discusses how honoring terroir and embracing innovation shape the winery's elegant, award-winning wines. Juan also shares the many ways they plan to commemorate the 50th anniversary of the Judgement of Paris - the landmark tasting that truly elevated Napa Valley wines onto the world stage for the first time - and how that historic moment continues to inspire their winemaking excellence today
St. Louis drinkers love Stag – the historic lager with roots in Belleville. But some distributors have recently told bar owners they will soon be out of kegs of the beloved beer. St. Louis Public Radio's Sarah Fentem reports on the future of Stag, and whether the pints being enjoyed this year could be the last.

How about a nice hot bowl of stew? Stew means a lot to me, and I'll bet most of you like a good bowl of beef stew, or chili, or goulash. Or maybe some ratatouille? How about some good Belgian waterzooi, or a Polish bigos, or a plate of Thai curry? A bowl of grits and étouffée at the Elk Creek Café set this episode off, which is why I interviewed Elk Creek chef Jon Forshey about what stew is, and some tips on making better stew, and an added bonus, his memories of his grandmother, "the patron saint of Poverty Hollow." That's where Jon learned to cook, and we'll talk about that, too. I'll tell you about my own stew journey, how learning to make a good stew really taught me how to cook, and fired me up to learn more. One of the things I learned about was bay leaves, and I'll use my first podcast sidebar to tell you about them. Bay leaves are more interesting and versatile than I realized, used in cooking from Baltimore to Baton Rouge, Germany, Delhi, Manila, and back to the Bay Area! Then I'll walk you through making my own birthday dinner, a nice pot of Carbonnade Flamande, a Belgian beef stew made with onions and beer, and about the State College pub crawl Cathy and I did while it was simmering at home. What I'm Drinking Today is one of the beers I used in the Carbonnade, Ommegang Abbey Dubbel, a rich, spicy old friend from back in the early days of craft beer. The Smack Dab In The Centre segment is about the new 2026 Happy Valley Inspiration Guide, tons of great things to do in Centre County. Next episode might be about Kane, PA, if I can get the interview scheduled in time; the person I'm interviewing has a very busy schedule, but they're the right person for the job.
