West-Central Florida Springs Restoration

About 70 volunteers spent a morning cleaning invasive Lyngbya algae out of Weeki Wachee Springs in Hernando County. The volunteer event was a coordinated effort by the Southwest Florida Water Management District and local rotary clubs.

The Southwest Florida Water Management District is restoring portions of Chassahowitzka Springs by removing accumulated sediments, which will improve the water clarity and water quality as well as the bottom habitat for plants and animals.
