American chestnut trees once towered over the landscape, dominating forests in parts of the eastern United States. But in the late 1800s, a fungal blight virtually wiped them out across the country. Chestnut restoration scientist Jared Westbrook tells Host Ira Flatow how new genetic work could speed up efforts to breed fungal resistance into hybrid chestnuts and create a heartier chestnut population. Then, author Hanna Lewis introduces Ira to the concept of miniforests, self-sustaining native forest ecosystems on a tiny footprint, like an empty lot or a schoolyard. The planting method, developed by botanist Akira Miyawaki, can help “rewild” small parcels of land by jump-starting forest development. Read our full story, The Miniforest Movement Gains Ground In The U.S. Guests: Dr. Jared Westbrook is Director of Science for the American Chestnut Foundation in Asheville, North Carolina. Hanna Lewis is the author of the book Mini-Forest Revolution: Using the Miyawaki Method to Rapidly Rewild the World. It’s natural to wonder what God’s will is for your life—especially when you’re facing uncertainty, hardship, or a season that feels confusing. We often ask, “What is my purpose?” or “Why am I here?” But one truth remains steady: God’s will is always connected to His glory and our transformation. Romans 12:2 reminds us that we discover God’s will not by following the world’s patterns, but by renewing our minds through Him. That means God’s will isn’t always something we “figure out” like a puzzle—it’s something we grow into as we surrender our hearts, our plans, and our desires to Him. This prayer points us back to Jesus in the Garden of Gethsemane. Even Jesus, overwhelmed by what lay ahead, prayed for another way—yet He ultimately surrendered with the words that changed history: “Not my will, but Yours be done.” That same posture is what God invites us into. Sometimes God’s will includes paths we didn’t expect: waiting, sacrifice, singleness, illness, loss, or deep stretching. But God never wastes suffering. Even what looks like delay or disappointment can become a platform for His glory and a testimony that strengthens others. Today’s reminder is simple but powerful: God’s will is good—even when it’s hard to understand. And the safest place you can be is in the center of His plans, trusting that He sees the full story from beginning to end. Main Takeaways God’s will is always good, even when it’s difficult or unclear. Renewing your mind through Christ helps you recognize God’s direction. Jesus modeled surrender when He prayed, “Not my will, but Yours be done.” God may use hard seasons to glorify Himself and strengthen others through you. Living in God’s will means putting Christ at the center of every decision. Today’s Bible Verse And be not conformed to this world: but be ye transformed by the renewing of your mind, that ye may prove what is that good, and acceptable, and perfect, will of God. – Romans 12:2 Your Daily Prayer Prayer excerpt for listeners: “Make me more like Christ so that I would long to remain in Your will.” Listen to the full prayer here. After the death of a child, the darkness can feel suffocating. In this deeply personal episode, Laura shares from her own journey of losing her daughter, Becca. The panic attacks, the desperate prayers and the overwhelming thoughts told her that she would never survive this kind of pain. When everything inside us says life will never be worth living again, how do we begin to move forward? Rooted in Romans 12:2, this conversation gently explores how transformation begins in the mind, even when the heart feels completely shattered. With both biblical truth and insights from neuroscience, this episode addresses how repeated thoughts can shape beliefs and identity, and how intentional, faith-filled shifts in thinking can begin creating space for light. Renewing your mind after child loss is not about denying grief or minimizing love; it is about challenging the lies that keep grieving parents trapped in despair and learning that it is our love, not the pain, that keeps us connected to our child. With deeply heart-felt compassion and clarity, Laura offers encouragement that, with God's help, it is possible to move forward without leaving our child behind. What if the most important work you'll ever do happens alongside others?Nehemiah 3 reads like a construction report—but behind the names and gates is a powerful reminder that lasting change happens when ordinary people take ownership of their part. This episode explores what it means to build side by side—across backgrounds, skill sets, and generations. Some embraced the responsibility. Others refused. The chapter quietly confronts us with a question that still matters:Will you take your place in the work? From personal responsibility to teamwork, from humility to legacy, this message reminds us that no role is insignificant—and that great things are built by people who show up consistently.Whether you're rebuilding faith, family, community, or purpose, you don't have to do it alone.Scripture Focus: Nehemiah 300:00 Rising Up to Build — Inside and Out01:59 Why We Must Build Together03:02 Renewing the Confession “Jesus Is Lord”04:36 The Gates and the Call to Work05:49 The Priests Lead the Way07:43 Why Names Matter09:38 Restoring Safety and Flourishing15:08 When Some Refuse to Help18:05 Labor That Isn't in Vain20:31 Building Near Home22:58 Strong Foundations24:41 The Long Haul Work29:36 Building for the Next Generation36:13 Side-by-Side Service and LegacyClick here to donate to the programClick here for more sermonsOC Church of Christ

If you're an insurance agent or adjuster with questions about licensing in Texas, you're in the right place. Whether you're applying for your first license or preparing for renewal, this guide answers the most common questions about Texas insurance licensing. How long does it take TDI to review my insurance license application? The Texas Department of Insurance (TDI) typically reviews license applications within one business day. If your application is complete, accurate, and free of qualification issues, you could receive your license as soon as the next business day. After submitting your application, watch for any follow-up questions from TDI and respond promptly to avoid delay. How often do Texas insurance agents need to renew their license? Your Texas insurance license expires every two years on the last day of your birth month. For first time applicants, the initial license term may be shorter so that future renewals match your birth month. What do agents need to do to keep their Texas insurance license active? To maintain your insurance license, you must renew it every other year before it expires at the end of your birth month. The renewal process calls for completing all required continuing education (CE) hours, submitting your renewal application, and paying the renewal fee. There's a $25 fee if it's late. How many CE credits do I need to renew my Texas insurance license? Most Texas insurance licenses require 24 hours of CE every two years, including three hours of ethics courses. At least half of all CE hours must be in a classroom or classroom equivalent setting. CE requirements vary by license, so check the requirements for your specific license type. If you miss your CE deadline: You'll be fined $50 per late credit hour, up to $500.Your license will not renew until you:Complete all required CE.Pay the CE fine.Submit your renewal application.Pay the late fee, if applicable. If you don't renew your license within 90 days of the expiration date, your license will become inactive and you'll have to apply for a new one.Where can I get help with the Texas licensing process?Visit TDI's Agent/Adjusters page and select the license type. The gospel transforms us by renewing our minds to live for Christ and not for the world. Pastor Mark preaches on Romans 12:1-2, unfolding how the gospel doctrine taught in Romans 1-11 transforms how we live our lives, poured out in worship to God. Preached on Feb. 11, 2026.
Don’t Fall for It Why Christians Keep Getting Played Christians are supposed to be people of truth. Instead, too many are people of reaction. In this episode, Pastor Joseph Spurgeon is joined by Pastor Michael Clary to expose a growing problem inside the Church: emotional manipulation masquerading as compassion. All it takes is a viral headline, a crying mother, or a carefully framed news story, and discernment goes out the window. Feelings replace facts. Sentiment replaces Scripture. And gullibility gets baptized as “love.” But biblical love is not blind. It is not naive. And it is not manipulated. Drawing from Romans 12 and Philippians 1, this conversation cuts straight to the heart of weaponized empathy, propaganda, weak pulpits, cowardly leadership, and the cultural chaos that results when Christians stop testing the spirits. If you care about leading your family well, thinking clearly in a propaganda age, and refusing to be played by emotional narratives, this one is for you. Chapter Breakdown 00:00 – If You Want to Control Christians, Just Tell a Sad Story01:10 – Romans 12: Renewing the Mind in an Age of Manipulation02:40 – Michael Clary’s Background: From Crew to Church Planting11:00 – The “Normie Whisperer” and Introducing Hard Truths14:00 – Winsomeness, Courage, and Paying the Price for Clarity19:00 – Church Conflict, Elder Division, and Blessed Subtraction23:30 – Why Christians Keep Falling for Emotional Narratives26:40 – Weaponized Empathy and News Cycle Manipulation29:00 – Love Without Discernment Is Not Love32:30 – Head, Heart, and Hands: Building Whole Men35:00 – Propaganda, Framing, and the Battle for the Dictionary41:30 – Fear of Man or Fear of Woman?45:30 – Feminine Empathy, Misplaced Compassion, and Cultural Chaos47:30 – Training Men in Discernment in a Propaganda Age Key Takeaways Emotions are not evidence of truth.• Love without knowledge and discernment becomes dangerous.• Propaganda rarely lies outright. It frames truth to control your reaction.• Weak pulpits create weak men.• Pastors must not fear emotional backlash more than they fear God.• Men must discipline their feelings instead of being ruled by them. Biblical love is strong. It is clear-eyed. It refuses to enable evil in the name of kindness. https://rumble.com/embed/v732x08/?pub=84ufd In this episode, Fr. Charles Murr reflects on the enduring wisdom of St. Thomas Aquinas and the profound consequences of the Church drifting away from his clear, reasoned theology. Drawing on history, philosophy, and pastoral experience, Fr. Murr explains how Aquinas provided a framework that harmonized faith and reason, safeguarded doctrine, and brought clarity to Catholic teaching. The conversation examines how, over time, this Thomistic foundation was set aside as modernism gained influence within the Church—leading to confusion, doctrinal ambiguity, and a loss of intellectual coherence. Fr. Murr discusses why Aquinas remains essential today, not as a relic of the past, but as a guide for recovering clarity, confidence, and fidelity in Catholic thought. This episode invites listeners to reconsider the importance of Thomism and why returning to the wisdom of St. Thomas Aquinas is critical for addressing the challenges facing the Church today.

From Pessimism to Praise: The Growth of the Apostle Thomas | Sermon from the Gospel of JohnIn this Bible teaching from the Gospel of John, we trace the honest, hope-filled journey of the Apostle Thomas. Often labeled “Doubting Thomas,” he was not lazy, disloyal, or faithless. He was committed, courageous, and deeply loyal to Jesus. Yet Thomas struggled with pessimism, a mindset that assumed the worst and wrestled with fear when circumstances felt uncertain. This sermon shows how Jesus patiently transforms pessimistic thinking into confident worship. Drawing from John 11, John 14, and John 20, we see how perspective shapes faith, how unchecked thoughts can sabotage joy, and how Christ meets doubters with grace rather than condemnation. You will also hear clear biblical clarification on the so-called “Gospel of Thomas” and why it was rejected by the early church as non-inspired and unbiblical, standing in contrast to the trustworthy New Testament Scriptures.Key Themes in This MessageHow perspective determines spiritual growth and joyWhy pessimism often isolates and fuels doubtHow Jesus responds to honest questions with truth and patienceTaking every thought captive according to 2 Corinthians 10:5Renewing the mind with what is true and praiseworthy from Philippians 4:8The transformation of Thomas from doubt to devotionOld Testament parallels with Joshua and Caleb versus fearful pessimism in Numbers 14Sermon Big IdeaJesus is not finished with believers who struggle with negative thinking. He loved Thomas, kept Thomas, and patiently shaped Thomas. And He still turns pessimists into worshipers today. If you have ever found yourself bracing for disappointment, struggling to trust God beyond what you can see, or fighting negative thoughts, this message offers biblical hope, clarity, and encouragement. A harvest that isn't stewarded won't last. Jesus didn't call us to count decisions; He called us to make disciples. In Part 4 of Renewing Our Vision, we move from celebrating salvations to building spiritual barns—places where new believers are protected, nurtured, and equipped to grow into lifelong followers of Christ. This message challenges every believer to move from consumer to carrier and take responsibility for the harvest God has entrusted to us.

Joe Heinrich comes from a multi-generation Iowa farming family. As executive director of the non-profit Farm-to-Power, he's helping farmers to navigate the new world of renewable energy. Solar and wind developers are looking for land, which farmers have; farmers are looking for extra income steams, which energy can provide. But what happens to land with utility-scale energy installations? Some farmers are making sure that the panels are high enough off the ground that cattle can graze under them—and take advantage of the shade they provide. Others are grazing sheep under the panels, providing landscaping services and keeping the land healthy. Still others are growing crops. All of these are examples of agrovoltaics, or what Heinrich calls "double cropping"—harvesting food and energy at the same time.

The new year is upon us, and most people associate the turning of the calendar page with CHANGE. Whether it's losing a little weight, reading their Bibles more, or being more present with their families, the world looks to the calendar as the starting point for change. But what if change came a different way? What if outer changes were unrelated to our calendars, and came exclusively because of our inner transformation? Today, Pastor Sam Cabra announces the 2026 word of the year for Reunion, "Renewing the Mind." Renewal often comes in seasons, and knowing which season we are in is critically important. Expecting the right thing in the wrong season leads to bitterness, disappointment, and pain. But as we walk in step with God, He continually reveals the times and seasons we are currently in. By faith in the power of agreement, we step into the season of Renewing our Minds in 2026.Thank you for partnering with Reunion Hawaii! In this episode of "I Am That Woman," Felicia dives into the theme of renewing the mind, drawing inspiration from Romans 12:2. She emphasizes the importance of transforming our thoughts to align with God's truth rather than conforming to worldly patterns. Felicia encourages listeners to let go of old mindsets, fears, and traumas that hinder personal growth and to embrace a new perspective that reflects faith and abundance. She shares her personal journey with anxiety and depression, illustrating how renewing the mind is a daily choice that leads to healing and freedom.Throughout the episode, Felicia highlights that transformation is not instantaneous but a continuous process. She urges listeners to replace negative thoughts with affirmations of God's promises, reminding them that their identity is rooted in Christ. By choosing to renew their minds daily, individuals can break free from the chains of past experiences and step into the new blessings God has in store for them. The episode concludes with a heartfelt prayer and a reminder that they are not alone in their struggles, encouraging them to share the message with others who may need it.Takeaways"When your mind changes, your life follows.""Healing starts with your thinking.""You can't keep agreeing with the enemy and expect to walk in God's promises.""Not every thought you think is true.""Renewing your mind is not a one-time decision; it is a daily choice."
When life feels heavy, it doesn’t just affect our schedules—it affects our thoughts. This devotional begins with a picture of community: a small group faithfully studying Scripture together in the middle of real-life chaos—toddlers, teens, and nonstop responsibilities. But even in that meaningful rhythm, they began to notice something: resistance. Delays, disruptions, sickness, financial strain, and unexpected emergencies kept piling up, and it felt as if something was actively working against their time in the Word. That experience leads to an important reminder: spiritual battles often show up first in the mind. When pressure increases, discouragement can settle in, and the patterns of the world can begin to shape what we believe, fear, or chase. That’s why Romans 12:2 is so central here—renewal isn’t just about trying harder; it’s about being transformed from the inside out. When our minds are renewed, we begin to see more clearly, discern God’s will, and resist the pull of destructive patterns. The devotional also points out that when believers feel divided, distracted, or weighed down, returning to the basics matters. We don’t fight heaviness with more noise—we fight it with truth, community, and grace. That can look like meeting regularly with other believers, standing firm together in God’s Word, and speaking Scripture aloud so truth gets deeper than emotion. It also means giving ourselves grace when we fail—remembering that confession and repentance are gifts, not punishments. Renewing your mind is a daily practice. It’s choosing, again and again, to let God’s promises reshape your thoughts instead of letting the world define them. And as God transforms your thinking, He strengthens your faith, grows unity with other believers, and steadies you for whatever comes next. Main Takeaways Spiritual heaviness often affects our thought life first, which is why renewing the mind is essential. God transforms us from the inside out as we resist the world’s patterns and cling to His truth. Community matters—meeting regularly with other believers strengthens faith and unity. Speaking Scripture aloud can help anchor truth in your heart and interrupt destructive thought patterns. Grace is part of renewal; when we fail, we can confess, repent, and start again with God’s help. Today’s Bible Verse Do not conform to the pattern of this world, but be transformed by the renewing of your mind. Then you will be able to test and approve what God’s will is—his good, pleasing and perfect will. - Romans 12:2 Your Daily Prayer Here is a brief excerpt from today’s prayer: “Renew our minds, transform our thoughts, and give us the tools to lean into our faith when this life veers off course.” You can listen to the full prayer in this episode, or read the devotional at the links below. What shapes the way you think shapes the way you live.In this message of Put God First – Part 2: In Your Mind, we explore how easily our thoughts drift, how subtle mindsets form, and why surrendering your mind to God is not a one-time decision but a daily journey. Using the story of Peter, we unpack how personal beliefs, cultural pressure, and fear of opinion can quietly override obedience—and how unity is only possible when our thinking is continually renewed. This episode challenges listeners to examine what voices are shaping their mindset and how real peace and clarity are found through surrender, not control.Topics covered:– Renewing your mind– Mental drift and spiritual alignment– Unity vs division– Faith under pressure– Obedience without clarity– Letting go of control—To connect, learn more or donate, visit gravetopchurch.com Follow us on Instagram, Facebook or TikTok by searching @gravetopchurch

This week we're discussing Approaching the New Year with Renewed Perspective. For many solo parents, a new year does not arrive with excitement but with exhaustion, uncertainty, and a quiet fear that clarity cannot be trusted anymore. When past disappointments linger and the future feels fragile, it becomes easy to live in regret, worry, or self-blame. This episode speaks to the tension of living between what was and what might be, and why staying present, releasing control, and shifting perspective opens the door to peace and renewed hope. Today, we cover three main points: Staying present instead of living in the past. How ruminating on what-ifs and regrets fuels shame and keeps us from experiencing clarity and healing today. Finding peace in the middle of the "I don't knows." Why uncertainty triggers fear and control, and how grounding yourself in what you can do today creates stability even when answers are missing. Filtering life through gratitude, expectancy, and awareness. How choosing to notice what is good, expect growth, and stay aware reshapes your experience and helps you respond with steadiness instead of stress. Renewing perspective does not mean fixing everything at once. It means choosing presence over escape, trust over fear, and small intentional steps over overwhelm. Clarity grows when we stop borrowing pain from the past or fear from the future and learn to live fully in the day in front of us. Everyday routines don’t always spark excitement—but Colossians 3:23 reminds us that even the most ordinary moments can be filled with purpose when we approach them with our whole heart for the Lord. This devotional reframes enthusiasm as a byproduct of gratitude, inviting us to rediscover joy, sincerity, and meaning in the daily work God places before us. Highlights Enthusiasm often fades in routine, not just in hardship. God calls us to work heartily—with our whole heart—for Him, not people. Gratitude is the gateway to renewed enthusiasm. Sincere thankfulness reshapes how we view mundane tasks. Every opportunity, joyful or dull, can be used for God’s glory. Knowing God’s character deepens gratitude and joy. Everyday faithfulness matters just as much as mountaintop moments. Do you want to listen ad-free? Full Transcript Below: Renewing Your Enthusiasm for Everyday Life By Keri Eichberger Bible Reading: Whatever you do, work at it with all your heart, as working for the Lord, not for human masters. - Colossians 3:23 I’m a full-blooded beach girl. But considering I live about ten hours from any coast, I don’t make it to the sandy shore as often as I’d like. And when I do, enthusiastic is a fitting description of my heart posture from the moment my plans are in place, all the way through to the impending day of departure. When I’m not so enthusiastic—the week after. Back at home, when the monotony of the same ole, same old greets me the following Monday morning. What is it that fills you with enthusiasm? Is it a vacation to the beach, mountains, or the city? Maybe family gatherings, milestone celebrations, or certain seasons and holidays? And what doesn’t excite you so much? Maybe you can relate to my lack of enthusiasm on the mundane days of life. Or you may feel the staleness of your job, daily tasks, or house chores and the accompanying list of needed updates. Possibly you’d confess you’re not so thrilled with the constant demands of parenting toddlers or teens, or with the serving opportunities you’re signed up for. I get it. It’s hard to match the excitement we feel with the things that most delight our senses and souls, with the ordinariness of our everyday routines. But wouldn’t it be wonderful if we could? Personally, I love this idea. I’ve heard it said it’s no fun, to have no fun, or on the flipside, it’s fun to have fun. And I’m sure we can agree. Fun is more favorable. And when we find enthusiasm, we find more fun. Of course, we’d love to find and add more fun, enthusiasm, and enjoyment to the everyday aspects of life because that’s where we spend the majority of our time, thus all our days really. Colossians 3:23 says, “Whatever you do, work at it with all your heart, as working for the Lord, not for human masters.” Some versions replace all your heart with enthusiasm or heartily. This verse and varying versions remind me that we are not just to do some things with enthusiasm, but all things. It also speaks to me that if we desire enthusiasm in what we do, we will approach it with our whole heart. And for the sake of the Lord. So then, how do we do something, or everything, heartily and wholeheartedly for God? How do we add enthusiasm to everyday tasks and chores? Assignments that feel more mundane. That we, quite frankly, don’t feel so enthusiastic about. It occurred to me that doing something with a whole heart involves a sincere heart. And I believe we gain sincerity through appreciation and gratitude for the subject. The subject of Colossians 3:23 is God. Do we have an appreciation and gratitude for our almighty Father when we’re walking through the everyday, dull, and disappointing parts of life? As much as when we’re vacationing or celebrating with loved ones? And is our gratitude sincere? Or are we forcing smiles, faking our thanks, and allowing a sarcastic spirit? I know it’s not always natural or easy, but we should aim to be genuinely grateful in all circumstances. In the fun and joyous occasions, as well as in the blah and bothersome moments. The truth is, God gives us all our opportunities for good. For our good, and most importantly for his good and glory. The more we see that everything we do and every opportunity placed before us is for God and his glory, and the more we get to know the character and heart of him who we serve—Him who loves us like crazy and has given us more blessings than we can count—the more we grow in gratitude toward God. He is indeed the giver of gifts. And as we grow in gratitude for God and every moment that he gives, our hearts become more sincere, and we begin to add more enthusiasm to the most mundane of moments and the dullest of days. I know sincere gratitude can be harder in some seasons and on difficult days. I feel this struggle too often myself. And those are the times we need some assistance and additional reminders to refresh our understanding of who God is and what God does. And re`12gardless if you’re feeling jazzed about the task at hand or not, we can always grow in gratitude and benefit from getting to know him better. Intersecting Faith & Life: If you could use a boost in enthusiasm, stop and spend some time reflecting on the work or the day directly in front of you. Sit still in God's presence. Pray for a sincere heart of gratitude for what he has set before you. Soak in his power and greatness in the pages of his word. Understand that he is good. Understand that he is using every single thing for your good and the good of all those around you. And thank him for it all. Even the seemingly not-so-ideal parts. Thank him for that, too. And then rise up sincerely grateful. Deep down in your heart, seek an angle, find a way, to be thankful for the very thing before you. There is always something in everything to be thankful for. And when you find more sincere gratitude in every moment, you'll find more enthusiasm and enjoyment in your everyday moments.
