By looking at what's happened in the past and what is happening at the moment, scientists can make well-supported predictions of what Ireland's climate will be like in the future. So what changes are we likely to see in Ireland’s climate in the year 2050?
What does it take to sail solo around the world? A boat stocked with food? Sure - and money? Definitely - what about serious sailing skills? Yes all these. But what if through a twist of fate this only took you half way - what's the essential ingredient to sail solo around the world? From listening to Enda O'Coineens adventure, it's clear that ingredient is perseverance.
Everything we do has an impact. Building stuff and growing food, burning fuel and using resources all have impacts on our environment. The sum total of this is an unhealthy planet that feeds right back to us as reduced quality of life. For the other life that shares the planet with us, the consequences can be even worse.

Plastics from oils formed deep in the bowels of the earth are brought to the surface to become bottles and bags, used once then thrown away. All this mess made in moments, there's waste piling up like mountains under the sea and it's tainting everyone and everything. The circular economy is about easing our voracious appetite for these limited resources and reducing our willingness to create waste. So many of us live, work and play by the coast because it’s a pretty special space that offers us so much. But sometimes the things we do have a negative consequences for the environment. When this happens it’s up to all of us to speak up and act for positive change. But how do you raise awareness for important coastal and environmental issues, how do you make a positive difference on the coast. In this episode of Making Waves we talked with Patrick Jackson who has been raising awareness for several years about a pollution problem in Howth’s Doldrum Bay. What kind of crazy future do we have in store? Fusion Power? Maybe. Flying Cars? Hopefully. Mayo win the All-Ireland again? Definitely! For sure, Ireland in the year 2100 will be very different from the country we live in now. It's fun to speculate about the advances in technology and the changes in the world the future will bring but it remains really difficult to forecast the changes 20 year down the road let alone those more than 80 years hence. There are, however, some things we can be pretty sure about - thanks to 150 years of global temperature record keeping - the world will be a warmer place.
