I Support Adoption is a podcast about my journey to educate myself and others about local, church-driven adoption. In the process, I hope to create better opportunities for non-adopters to get involved with adoption on a personal, relational level.
Apologies for the radio silence! We've been pleased with the response to the first four episodes of this podcast, but there's only so much you can do to introduce an idea. Beginning in 2020, Season Two of the ISA podcast will be taking a deeper dive into our local foster programs and ministries. The goal will be to release one episode per month, so stay tuned for the first new episode in January.
I sat down with my wife, Kelsey, and we opened up about some of the reasons we don't feel like adoption is the right choice for our family right now. We talked about a number of things, including lessons we've learned as an already mixed family, perfectionism, personal insecurities, and my own struggles with empathy and relationships. This episode is directly from our hearts and goes out to anyone who wants to support adoption and fostering but feels ill-equipped to do anything about it.
For Episodes #2-3 I will be playing a conversation I recently had with Rev. Rob McCurley (Greenville Presbyterian Church, Taylors, SC). While we initially discussed the topic of adoption in the Bible, our conversation touched on many topics including the role of the church in adoption throughout history, the recent shift from the church to the state in caring for the fatherless, and the need for more Christian families to get involved in adoption in their local churches.

For the first episode of this adventure, I (Sam) sat down with my wife (Kelsey) to introduce the project and lay out all the reasons for its existence. In part 1, we discuss our own ignorance when it comes to supporting adoption as a non-adoptive family. In part 2, I take the show on the road and ask some folks in my own community how they are supporting adoption. Finally, in part 3, Kelsey and I give some family history and talk about our own past experiences with adoption and fostering.
